No idea if you talking about @Son Of Big Boss, probably he's the one who created it. And if not, he could help here (now that I've tagged him already lol) since he's really good at remaking alpha/beta vehicles.

Peds also have other bodies in peds.dff, other than heads. These include cops, criminals, some fat guy with a boombox, a prostitute and BETA Claude that has a playerx-ish head. It took quite a while to be found, until I posted the BETA Cabbie a few years ago which is how all of this was found. It just didn't get much coverage, sadly.

Since not many people seem to know what was found back then, here are the peds that were hidden in peds.dff:

unknown.png

In order, they are: cop, criminal01, criminal02, fatfemale01, fatfemale02, fatmale01, fatmale02, female01, female02, female03, gang01, gang02, gang03, gang04, gang05, gang06, male01, male02, male03, player, prostitute. The ones with missing heads have their heads grouped when importing the dff normally. Some textures are missing, some can be restored, like for Claude where his textures are used by Catalina with a few tweaks. Interesting how certain peds like the medics and the FBI guys were missing.

As for vehicles, here is a good video on this, even though some textures are misplaced, the models are real.

Small find! I believe that this Stallion and paint job was meant for the Diablo gang before they got the black paint job with flame decal. This would make sense as to why this car has completely tinted windows, i.e Mafia Sentinel, while the regular Stallion isn't.

Diablos had Infernuses back then didn't they, they must have cut the Infurnus gang car late as there is dialogue about it, unless that phone mission was a very early mission before they even decided to make characters with cut-scenes missions and wanted all missions to be phone based but later relegated these early phone missions as bonus content. But usually they record audio last, could be an oversight and they forgot to change the script and the voice actor just read what was there and was too late to change or an oversight.

@super_slav Yes they did have the Infernus for the "Dyablo" gang. Now Diablo, back in alpha stages. I'm calling 95% sure, from the look of it that they used this color scheme before the final diablo colors. Makes sense since the Yardies colors became red and tan a much toned down version of this red and yellow. This seemed to be beta Diablo Stallion is also at the correct ride height in the trailers just like the final diablo. In earlier stages, the civilian Stallions ride height was the same as the Diablo.

Here you can see the Stallion is at a lower ride height. The beta Stallions were, REDORANGE/Tan, RED/Tan, not to be confused with the REDORANGE and YELLOW w/ window tint. Same exact body color.

It's inside vehicles.dff. I linked them on the old GTA 3 Beta Cars thread in separate dffs if you want.

@Jinx. What is it called in there? I have that folder but no idea what is the Ariant called? It's not in the folder linked.

@Jinx. Wow. oops. I found it! It is labeled 'Reliant' in the vehcile.dff folder. Thank you for making me check out that folder again! Got it set up!

Altered the 0's in the Font to match e3 a little bit more. Thoughts? Beta has more zeros and is a lot closer together.

Altered the handling, trying to replicate e3 a bit more. The handling when you turn with out the e-brake will make it harder to pull out of that turn once you start causing it to spin.

Doesn't rain affect handling? In the videos it was raining IIRC.

Continuing from this post, have you noticed how the distant landmass beyond north-east Shoreside Vale is quite far back away from the city in LCS...

sd9rEiu.png

...yet in III, these very same hills look like they've, rather humorously, "creeped forward" by themselves towards the city over the past three years?

Dg5xSVE.png

Looking at the LCS rendition, notice the weird gap between the end of the accessible area and the hill coastline...

6krUCnz.png

...whereas the hill coastline begins immediately after the invisible wall in III:

Q4lypMW.png

If we remove the hill coastline LOD (it doesn't have a non-LOD counterpart, telling you) and look at SSV's megaLOD, you'll find that "weird gap" here too:

IVn3A5c.png

Conclusion: The hills in III were originally supposed to be placed on the exact same position as in LCS OR the hills in LCS are placed on the exact same BETA position of their III counterparts.
Either way, R* must've made the hills "creep forward" at some point during III's development for whatever reason. Maybe to fit the radar map? IDK, what are your thoughts?

Facts:

- Interestingly enough, the Portland-SSV megaLOD (used when on Staunton Island) features a much more detailed and almost LCS-like rendition of the "weird gap" (as seen in the fifth screenshot above).
That's simply because SSV is more clearly visible from SI, whereas it's not quite visible from Portland.

- The hill models R* Leeds used in LCS must've been based on earlier versions of the III ones.

Hey guys, GTASeriesvideos confirmed that they still plan on releasing a video about the GDD. Some hope :)

Here's an imgur with their most recent update, and my initial message to them a year and a half ago.

Z-T shared this with us on the Luigi's Club discord server.

https://www.ign.com/articles/the-story-behind-grand-theft-auto-iiis-ground-breaking-radio-station-chatterbox-fm

From what I read so far, Chatterbox was in concepts after E3 2001 (May 2001), Fernando Martinez was only an ad (confirming several ads were done around this time too). I'll update the post with more findings.

Another interesting fact: See this BETA screenshot?

Spoiler

Notice the weirdly dumbed down dark-blue tone of the LCPD cruiser's primary body color compared to the earlier BETA screenshots depicting the cop car. Did R* try to change the tone of it's color after 9/11?
Apparently, if you "recreate" the BETA model and set it's primary body color to ID #53, the result is pretty similar to, if not the same as, the BETA screenshot above:

The police vehicle in that promotional screenshot looks like it was edited in Photoshop rather than color change in my opinion.

Damn, pretty interesting. I should take a look into later. It amazes me this is out to public after all this drama with mods, dmca notices and how Rockstar is trying to "kill" 3d era gta installments.

Rest of the article talks about how Lazlow and R* started collaborating, how Chatterbox was created, etc. One thing I have to add though is that Lazlow was credited for directing pedestrian dialogue, according to the end game credits. This means that certain peds like one cop (the one heard at E3) and male01 (the blue shirt guy actually has lines about his old appearance which was made of a green suit) are older than May 2001. There are definitely more peds that could have older lines like this, if they can be heard in the E3 clips.

I think this was partly to make the map feel bigger than it really is, the idea that there was more out there than presented.

San Andreas sort of did this; the Cordillera in Bayside and much of the northern and North East edges in the map are designed in a way to make the map feel as if it was connected to more land.

GTA 4 didn't do this so you pretty much have to use your imagination, same with VC.

So I've been looking into the cut multiplayer modes lately, and I think I found some good ideas for what they were likely supossed to be.

Deatmatch and Team Deathmatch are classics, but not much is known about the Stealth variants. Maybe they were supossed to act more like the other FPS games, with no map and no names? In LCS/VCS and CTW, the players are always shown on the radar and in the Stories games they had their names and an arrow above them, so those might've been disabled.

Here's an interesting thing related to Stash the Cash. Chinatown Wars has this mode called "Stash Dash", where it's stated in the description that you have to stash the cash. This is probably the closest thing we will ever know about this mode. Basically you had to steal a vehicle with money and deliver it somewhere, and depending on the vehicle health, you'd get a specific ammount of money. The other players would have to steal this vehicle. Not sure if they had their own drop off location, though, as I never played this mode. If a specific ammount of money was collected, the player would win. LCS also has a similar mode called "The Wedding List", and IV has "Car Jack City", where it's a free-for-all and several cars are on the map, so if this mode was based on the CTW variant, it could've been a team mode. Not sure. What are your thoughts on this? (EDIT: There's a Team Car Jack City variant in IV)

Capture The Flag is also a classic. It's been featured in many MP games from the time, like Half Life, TFC, Unreal, etc.

Rat Race has a definition on Wikipedia. Judging by this, it was probably like Bling Bling Scramble, where you'd have to go through checkpoints and achieve a certain score. No clue how it really played, though, but it doesn't sound like it was an average race.

Domination could've been based on the Domination mode from Unreal Tournament 1999. In this mode, there are 2 teams, and each team has to take over a control point. For each control point, each 5 seconds the team receives a point, and if a certain point limit was achieved, said team wins. Since the other modes, aside from STC and Rat Race, are really generic, it's safe to assume Domination was also generic. IV MP has a really similar mode to that.

As for the maps, it's safe to assume not all of them supported all the modes. I can't see Rat Race happening in The Sewer or in The Tower, for example. Stash the Cash could work but without cars it'd be some kind of Capture the Flag.
