Cool I can't believe 14 years later were still finding new things about gta3. Rockstar really needs to put out a book on the making of the game that changed everything.

I have a theory on why in some of the guide screenshots the fists are blue colored andweapons are yellow-orange.
Anyone who played Manhunt knows that the HUD in the game is very... unique compared to GTA's. Each weapon type and the damage/danger it caused was represented with acolor.

Yellow - Throwable/Distractor
5JcCati.jpg
Light - Green
gmIeO6Z.jpg
Medium - Blue
BtIahCA.jpg
Heavy - Red
vg4meW3.jpg

I think at one point R* wanted to make GTA 3's weapon icon work like Manhunt's does, indicating the type of weapon and the power/danger it has with a different tone, but they probably decided it was too colorful/too many options to go with.

Or maybe I'm overthinking. :(

Hey, it's a very valid Theory.

About the Plummet Airlines Stuff on the previous page, it's incredible that this Game still has these hidden details yet to be found. :)

Or this...

If you look to all screenshots with the blue hud, the only icon in blue color is the fist in all screens and the other icons are yellow, something strange or in development in that time.

Anyway, your theory is very acceptable Mega. ;)

Remember Game On exhibition in London with GTA 3 stand and story board?

Looks like the whole exhibition was held in many places, like London, Israel, Brisbane and many more.. Source

For some reason, we only know about it mainly from London.

Yesterday I was browsing the Internet to find more pictures and I found this treasure...

"Game On" exbibition in Taiwan, held in 2009.

Update

This GTA 3 stuff is now located in Canada, at Montreal Science Centre, in Montreal

(Game On exhibition lasts from 15 April 2015 to 13 September 2015). Source

If you live in Canada or nearby Montreal, why not to visit this awesome exhibition and photograph these osum GTA 3 things from every single perspective, for the GTA community?

This stuff floats around the world for 12 years and only a few people know about it. These pictures above are not so great, a lot of stuff is blurred and other stuff is left behind the scene.

@Mega

Or, instead of overthinking things, how about the idea of each and every weapon having its own HUD color like in Vice City?

If I remember correctly, R* actually did that in Vice City, different colors representing different types of weapons (the question marks mean I am not sure of the color, I am not good with colors :p) : light blue for melee weapons, light green (?) for handguns, yellow for sub-machine guns, green for shotguns, teal (?) for throwables and the detonator, orange for machine guns, pink for sniper rifles and finally purple for heavy weapons. Also, the fists, knuckle dusters and the camera have no color.

Heh, it's so subtle. Notice how melee/light weapons are blue and the Uzi is yellow-orange just like the fist and Uzi in the BETA GTA III screenshots. Guess they decided to try it again with Vice City. (although I like Manhunt's a lot more, it looks more informative and less... subtle as I mentioned.)

Thanks for mentioning those.

From what I can see on the whiteboard images:

Luigi

  • "Don't SPANK Ma Bitch Up" was called "Don't Smack[?] Ma Bitch Up"

Joey Leone - "Reward: Colombians' Cutscene"

  • "Mike Lips Last Lunch" was called "Lips Forelli's Last Lunch"
  • "Farewell 'Chunky' Lee Chong" was called "Kill Chunky Lee Chong"
  • "Cipriani's Chauffeur" was called "Escort Toni" *
  • "The Getaway" was called "The Bank Job" *

El Burro

  • "I Scream, You Scream" was called "Ice Cream You Scream" *
  • Trial By Fire was "Burro [can't read the next word]" which got changed to "Disco Inferno" *
    • Flamethrower was a reward, no idea if by the safehouse or if we get to just keep it or if we get to buy it.

Toni Cipriani

  • "Taking Out The Laundry" was called "Take Out The Laundry"
  • "Salvatore's Called A Meeting" was called "Frankie's Limo"
  • "Blow Fish" may have been written as "Blowfish"/"BlowFish" because the words are not spaced out on both sticky notes.

Frankie (Salvatore) Leone

  • "Chaperone" was called "Pulp Friction"
  • Bomb Da Base a full mission?
    • Also that's when the Cartel would hate the player. Normally they hate the player since the very beginning.

Kenji

  • "Kanbu Bust-out" was called "Breakout" **
  • "Grand Theft Auto" was called "Gone in 60" *

Yardies

  • "Uzi Rider" was called "Uzi Driver" *

Ray

  • "Marked Man" was called "The Hand-over & The Dam" *

Asuka

  • "S.A.M." was called "Plane To Sea" *

Catalina

  • "The Exchange" was called "Wanted Man"

* = The name has no Quotation (" ") marks so it may have as well been a placeholder name.

** = The name that was scribbled out has no Quotation marks while the final name has them meaning it might have been a placeholder.

Also it's interesting that El Burro's missions have a sticky note that says the missions repeat/loop while the Yardies and Hoods do not have that note.

Is it just me, or does this look like it was taken in the back of Luigi's? The small opening on the side made me think about that. (I have a feeling it is just a scene-build type thing though)

It's an area made for render purposes.

As for the African-American mystery main character, I think I have a theory.
He's marked as "El Burro" of the Diablos. That doesn't make sense considering the background of the gang and how the actual El Burro is and was thought to be, even before the final release.

I think that at some point they made renders of all characters but they already removed the character named "Curtly" by the time the renders were released. That one never made it.

So, instead of leaving El Burro blank or render a payphone they used some render that was never tagged or showcased. Sounds plausible.

One can argue that El Burro might've had this model as his actual model at some point.

Sure but thing is that Rockstar (DMA at the time) would never simply trash a model just to have his missions as calls. Makes no sense.

I want to correct a mistake, as neither Catalina's mission was called Wanted Man, nor Ray's mission was called "The Hand-over & The Dam", it would be vice-versa. A mistake on DMA's part.

"Reward = Flamethrower", on the other hand, means that you can use the flamethrower(or any other gun that was given to the player on any other mission) even after that mission is passed.

Pretty much sums up the fact that this board has a few mistakes in it.

The material such as that African-American guy's render seems random and the fact that two mission tags were accidentally switched.

I think that the African-American guy is most likely just an ordinary pedestrian, but then, why DMA would render a pedestrian just to put him to a storyboard?

(sorry for sandwich posting, BTW)

They made his model full mesh and his arms/feet aren't ordinary pedestrian ones.

They're hi poly ones (for the standards from back then) which were used on all the other rendered characters.

He's basically a main character or just some pedestrian that was made really fancy for a render but I find that highly unlikely.

These are the reasons I keep insisting on looking into this character even further. Simply because it has all the qualities of a main character model in the render we've witnessed.

So, this guy is either a testing ped that accidentally made into the storyboard(which is unlikely), another cut important character that isn't mentioned on anywhere, or he's no other than Curtly that everybody talked about back in late-2000's. This thing has became a mixed bag...

Exactly.

That's why the theory stands. It's basically our only lead to Curtly and it's pretty fair on that level.

It has all the traits of a main character model (from arms to feet) and besides, it is full mesh. Full mesh models were only made for promotional screenshots of important characters.

Sadly, that's all we know for now. :(

Seems like an artwork or concept render. Nothing too interesting.

The only interesting-ish thing about it is that it has never been release. Unlike the tunnel chase render.

The source code... blurred source code.

hjPo718.png

Some of the source code looks to be related to networking, as I can see the words "server" and "network" in a few places. This further proves the fact that multiplayer was a planned feature for the game.

// My best attempt at deciphering the blurred networking source code#IFDEF GTA_NETWORK    IF (CGAMENET.NETWORKSTATUS == NETSTAT_SERVER && PDRIVER->MPLAYER())    {        CGAMENET.PLAYERPED?????????????NETWORKGAME(PDRIVER);        CNETGAME_REGISTERPLAYERNULL(PDRIVER, P??????);    }#ENDIF

I was looking through old Gouranga! archives and found a few screens, and these two caught my eye.

The HUD in that beta image is about the same as the final one when it comes to functionality and template. The differences are less than minor.
As for the car, it's artwork/render purpose. They never meant for it to be in the actual game from the looks of it.

Only difference being the blue instead of yellow.

Probably a close to release picture.

Oh, and good to know. It looks real cool though.
