PS3 YLOD and repairing it AGAIN with heat. (info gathering)

Recommended Posts

hi,

my ps3 dropped dead in the beginning of this year, and i was able to fix the YLOD with the oven method. (10min @ 190°C) it worked perfectly! for a good while.

now it happend again (which was inevitable) and this time i know about the heatgun my neigbour has. so i want to use it. but before i do, i'd like to take the chance and listen to some tips from you.

i am planning on circling with about 5-10 cm distance between chip and heatgun for about 90 seconds for getting optimal results.
i never did something like that, i trust myself since i dont have two left hands. but i always like input, so i know where i am at.

what the f*ck is YLOD u ask? its when your ps3 refuses to start properly.
people charge u alot of money to repair it, in fact all they do is heat it up so all the connecting parts in the chip are properly connected again (cant explain this better, sry). easy to repair yourself.

the oven method seems very undangerous because u cannot really overheat it, whereas the heatgun method is faster and more "reliable", but a bit risky if u overheat it. since u kinda try to guess the right temperature while moving your arm around. but i only need the ps3 for 3 more weeks so i go for the heatgun method.
