Cool Things You Didn't Know About Vice City

I'm pretty sure the foggy weather can occur outside of that mission, but it's extremely rare. It has happened to me a couple of times years ago before unlocking Diaz's missions.

I should check the weather cycle in the game's files just out of curiosity.

 

@up I wouldn't be me if I wrote such things without checking ;). The following link is mentioned on page 8 of this thread few times already, but let's have a look again.

There are two weather cycles which are nearly the same, except the "hurricane" features heavy rain instead of normal raindrops. Weather ID 3, that is fog, is not present in both cycles.

 

After checking the source code I conclude that only during "Checkpoint Charlie" is it possible to get this kind of weather for a while.

 

I remember I experienced the foggy weather first in Vice City Multiplayer (after playing a few years of VC, because who would mind doing one boat race for 4 times?!).

Since there's been no reply for a week, I'd like to point out one thing, which quite struggled me - the beach ball.

I've found a beachball in Leaf Links Golf Club, in one of the sandpits. Here's the location:

This leads me to believe the beachballs can randomly spawn in any place with sand.


I made a search in the map files and there are only two results for "ball". Two objects "beachball" with id 526 spawns on Starfish Island, their location:

And there are no results in the MAIN.SCM file for "ball" or "526".

So, where are the other balls? An article on Grand Theft Wiki (same as on Wikia, ehh) stays that they spawn occasionally on Vice Beach. I've been there for a few times now and I have not seen a single beach ball.

I searched on Youtube for some proofs of it and found only one video where a ball spawned on the beach (PS2 version of VC, but this doesn't matter?).

 

If anyone can post a picture of a ball on a beach I'd be grateful (with a description how you did it ;) ).

My thought: spawning balls on sand is likely hardcoded in the game engine.

The beachball spawns similarly to other beach objects, most notably the beach towels. When I get the time, I will check the exact conditions for them.

I got sidetracked from the beachball into the aquatic life. I found that only up to 8 objects can be spawned at a time in the water. You also have to be still for at least five seconds (!) in order for the aquatic life to spawn.

 

EDIT: Progress update! There must be at least 20 seconds between each beachball spawn attempt, collision surface must be sand, you must be near the ocean, and you must be moving at less than 1.5 m/s -- jogging (not sprinting), moving slowly in a car, or stopped completely -- in order for the beachballs to spawn. Up to 3 can spawn at a time but once at least one is spawned, they must despawn before another batch can be spawned. They will always spawn outside your field-of-view, no less than 30 units and no more than 50 units from the player character. I have not figured out all the conditions yet but seeing all the conditions I found so far, it must be really uncommon for anyone to stumble upon a wild beachball. First I thought the conditions were similar to beach towels but it wasn't the case. At least I created something funny with it:

I found exactly where in the code that the beachball spawns. Next is to find how. So I removed all the conditions and beachballs were everywhere:

New discovery! Lounge chairs also spawn like beachballs! Got this to happen while getting beachballs to spawn in a normal game:

Sand is also on the Vice City Mainland part. Do the beach balls spawn there too?

The beach in Downtown? It's not technically sand. Sand will show footprints when you walk over it.

Nice finds, spaceeinstein! So everything relating to the beachball, except for the spawn points on Starfish Island, is hardcoded in the .exe, correct?

I found out a couple of weeks ago about the glitch that makes the vehicle drive itself, with the side effect of player disappearing from it. To do this, you want to either steal a car with a driver that wants to get his/her car back or wait for a carjacker to enter your car from the passenger seat. Normally, they will simply sit on the passenger seat and you can still control your car but if you BREAK the passenger door and they are entering it, then speed up a little and they will enter into the driver seat and the player completely disappears. However the player doesn't exactly disappear, he gets moved into the passenger seat but is invisible (you can see the player if you use F1 replay). During that time, you can't control the car (the AI drives the car) but you can still slow down and get out of vehicle. However if the vehicle explodes, the only way out is to use suicide cheat code. You can also be busted if a cop runs to the passenger side but if the driver gets out, then you can't get busted anymore. Actually you can't be harmed at all during the time you got this glitch, you can't drown or die from car explosion. It's an interesting glitch that I found accidentally recently and wanted to share, although it has been found before. Some speedrunners used this kind of glitch in The Chase mission, though you can also block the driver seat and that way you will have a passenger with you.

 

I have also tried to make a similar glitch by making both the player and driver enter the car at same time with mixed results. I once made both sitting in the car in correct seats but neither of us could control car and other time I somehow made the driver to "disappear" but I can't seem to recreate this glitch anymore.

 

I would like to know if more people found this glitch before. I also want to hear if it's possible to do this glitch in GTA 3 and SA. I know for sure it can be done in LCS as I read somewhere on this forum and I think it's possible in VCS as well.

If you use a trainer, it gives the BIG BANG cheat when you press Tab+F.

 

It is very funny to see the Rhinos flying by holding Tab+F, when you have 6 wanted levels. 😉😃

Can someone help confirm this? During Boomshine Saigon, your steering controls are delayed. Pausing and unpausing the game removes this delay.

There are some peds that have unique audio when you walk near them (don't bump into them or scare them). They don't do anything else though but it's interesting to see tiny details that R* put into the game. If you have the PC version, you need to install the ped speech patch to fix a bug making peds in general too silent.

 

These four tramps ask Tommy for food or change, or say other stuffs.

Even used is speedruns ;)

 

 

There are some peds that have unique audio when you walk near them (don't bump into them or scare them).

Funnily, this doesn't work with australian locale selected in OS, just like regular prostitutes.

 

Also peds can use shelters when it's raining. Usage can be seen on this video:

This is great. Just out of curiosity, are there any unique dialogues between Tommy and peds during missions that you've found? I know there are some in Cap The Collector, but I'm not sure about others.

Meanwhile I was digging spaceeinstein's great documentation work on one opcode and got interested in a specific sound...

 

Am I the only one who thinks that something is missing in the "No Escape?" mission? You walk into the police station, head over to the locker room while cops see you all the time, somehow find clothes there and then walk in a police uniform all over the station.

 

If you go to the place showed in the video below, you will hear a snoring effect. However it is recorded in bad quality and only audible close to the bench. Looks like a cop was supposed to sleep there and Tommy steals his clothes? Makes more sense. But Rockstar f*cked all by not placing a cop there :catspider:

So yesterday I analyzed deeper into the stuff I just talked about 4 weeks ago. I did a few more tests but this time with passenger mod, so I can enter in any vehicle I want as a passenger, even in the back seats. Here are all results that I found so far:

 

To make player disappear and make AI drive the car (in replay mode, player actually gets moved into the right passenger seat), you have to have a vehicle that is missing doors and have someone steal your car from the passenger side (either a driver that simply wants his/her car back, a thief or a mission scripted NPC).

During the time they enter in the car, speed up and they will enter in the drive seat, while you seem to disappear and lose control of the car. All you can do right now is slow down the car and exit the car. However if the car blows up, you will be stuck inside car with only way out if using the suicide cheat code. If you do the same glitch but block the driver door, then the ped will sit as normal in passenger seat.

If you stand still when someone steals your car, you will automatically exit the car. If you move backwards during the time someone enters your car, then the ped will still do the animation of entering in the driver seat but instead of appearing in car, they will appear outside of car and not move at all.

If you get in a car with doors and not break them and let someone steal your car and drive away, they will be in the passenger seat but you are the one who is controlling the car. But if you make the ped to enter in car from driver side, while you enter from passenger side (car must have doors), then car will get stuck and no one will drive the car. You can get out of vehicle as normal.

Fun fact: If you have a passenger with you and park car in garage and get out fast, the passengers will disappear as long as they were inside car and not outside of car.

 

Using the passenger mod, you can do a bit more than that and even make other people disappear. Be careful that even if you enter a car as passenger, you will still get wanted level for "stealing" the car. So make sure there aren't cops around. Also don't enter on any bikes as passenger or game crashes (only if bike doesn't have driver). If someone drives the bike and doesn't have passenger, you can get as passenger but YOU are the one controlling the bike. I'm not sure if these glitches are part of the mod or are limitations of VC.

 

And now the funny part. Steal a car as normal (Recommended a 4-door car. If you get one from street, make sure you get the driver out, you will see below why). Then provoke someone or have the driver attack you and then get back in the car in one of the back seats as passenger. The person that wants to fight back will try to pull you out but instead, they will enter the car and disappear. It works best with gangs. Just attack one, run and enter a car as passenger in one of the back seats and watch how they will enter the car. It's really funny, especially if there are 10 or more and trying to enter in car. They will all be sitting on the right front passenger seat but will be invisible (can be seen with replay).

 

If you are a passenger in a car with a driver, then you can get pulled out of the car, so the glitch won't work. Also make sure you don't get in the passenger front seat since you will be always pulled out of the car. Only time you can't be pulled out of car from passenger seat is if you are invisible with the original glitch mentioned at beginning of this post.

EDIT: Forgot to mention but if you are normal passenger, you can still drown and die from explosion, only if you are invisible, you will be immune to drowning and explosions but then will require suicide cheat code to get out.

 

Also forgot to mention another interesting glitch where you can make driver of car disappear: Find a car with 2 people inside (one on driver seat, one on passenger seat). Block the driver seat with another car. Now enter the car from passenger seat by pulling the other guy out. When the player tries to get in vehicle, the driver will disappear completely and the player will get out of vehicle automatically.

Sounds like something which would use patching, but that could annoy speedrunners just like III accuracy glitch with M16 :(

It seems like the game spawns only five Dodos per game session. I went around destroying Dodos and there were no more after I destroyed five. Restarting the game respawns the Dodos.

 

EDIT: Actually, it's not per game session. It's per flying vehicle session you are in. When you are in a flying vehicle, five Dodos spawn at once. They despawn after you exit your flying vehicle for ten seconds. Reentering your flying vehicle after that respawns all five Dodos for more destruction.

When the player drives a Phoenix, the three red circles in its roof scoop move. This isn't applied when a ped drives the car.

I don't know if it also plays in SA & VCS

SA has those three circles and it didn't move and in VCS, it's not exist.

The daily police spending stat is literally useless. The formula is: ((x & 255) + 80) * 255.44, where x is the playing time in milliseconds when you open the stats menu and at least one game day has passed. So the theoretical maximum is $85572 and minimum is $20435.
