P.S. ive also found out that the rain in the game lasts for 2hrs with ingame time and if it happens in the mornings it starts appox. at 7am and finishes exactly at 9am. as it strikes 9am the rain finishes. same if it happens at evenings or nights. count 2hrs and it'll finish at an exact hour..i found it out 2 nites ago..

You can check out the article on weather at GTAModding for the entire sequence of weather used in the game. Each number represents a weather type for one hour.

I didn't think I can still be finding new areas in Vice City. Just across the street from the Ocean Heights Apartment, there is a plant feature on the roof of this building. A circular hole in the roof allows room for the tree to grow through. This looks too unique to be generic. Do you think it's based on a real building?

I'll check it later but havent u seen in the NPM that those strees grow right in the building and saved to be so, i think the tree u saw up there has same story lol. and like i said before the trees in NPM feel the effect of the wind. and being inn while it rains outside u can see it from the trees inside.

Vice City was originally intended as an expansion pack to GTA III:

What it says:

GTA 3: Vice City, the official expansion for GTA 3. will take you to a new lively city in the 80's ambience. In this new city you'll have to deal with cuban motorbike gangs and you too will be able to drive on a motorbike. Blablabl, boats, blablabla, airplanes. It's a non-linear campaign against corrupt politicians and Cuban gansters.

Saw that this was active again so here's a reupload of that original article;

Ummmm...maybe I'm too late for posting this but aside from the window cleaners and elevator in playboy x's condo, GTA VC is the only game to feature an elevator that maybe operated at any point outside of missions.

It's the one from the mission G-spotlight in the office. It also has full animations showing inside the elevator from the view of a CCTV camera.

One ball is also there in a mansion pool in starfish island. My trick stand on the balls shadow and you can make 100-200 easily.

And that ball in the beach is a time controlled object, shows in night(forgot exact period).

I've found a beachball in Leaf Links Golf Club, in one of the sandpits. Here's the location:

This leads me to believe the beachballs can randomly spawn in any place with sand.

Nopes.

Beach balls don't spawn randomly. They are objects in the IPL file.

Well, has anyone else found the ball at that location? Cause I swear I haven't seen it there before.

I've never seen it there either. Then again, I don't roam around Leaf Links too often.

While browsing the SCM code for the mission where Tommy kills Gonzalez I stumbled across this.

RTlBeawY.png

This is Gonzalez' penthouse and his pool. Above how it looks all the time. Below how it looks during the mentioned mission.

Emm? Why did Rockstar made something like this?

For those who don't believe - 1:50.

Interesting, nice find! Is the pool used in the mission solid, like it has a cover over it? Maybe Rockstar made it that way so players wouldn't fall into the pool while chasing Gonzalez.

Just checked, it's solid, so you can walk over (however sounds imitating walking in water are still played).

Your idea isn't bad, but even if the player falls inside, he won't drown. And exiting the pool is relatively easy.

Anyways, here is the SCM line for it:

$2257 = Object.Init(#SEXYPOOLCOVER, 470.68, 30.336, 30.19)Object.RemoveFromMissionCleanupList($2257)

I wonder how this pool can be called "sexy pool" .

People who speedrun this game or watch speedruns probably know this already, but here we go:

- You can pickup mission objects (like the Kruger in "Guardian Angels") and start rampages using replays

- You can despawn and respawn traffic by moving the camera to the floor and the back up on foot (useful for Sunshine Autos lists)

- You can regain control of Tommy in the ending cutscene of Back Alley Brawl if you arrive at the hotel at the beginning of the game before 21:51(?), you can recognize you got there quick enough easily, because you won't get the cutscene showing the saving stuff

- You can glitch the game to run two missions at once, for ex. Vigilante + Rampage. Using this method you can start story missions twice, which in most cases will just crash the game, but in missions like Jury Fury it will instantly pass it, because it will spawn the jury cars twice and end up damaging them enough

All of those tricks changed the speedrunning time for this game from 2 hours to 53 MINUTES!

Yes, speedrunning used to be "for everyone", but now this is a glitch-fest where only professional players can compete.

Meanwhile people who mod this game :p know that there is a foggy weather, but it is unused. I thought this is a leftover from GTA 3, but it turns out, that I'm wrong.

lNc8jr.png

Get to the fourth level of "Checkpoint Charlie". This is the only time in the whole game this kind of weather appears.

I found out that the "accuracy" stat (might apply to other GTA games as well) isn't only related to the player. Start a new game, get 2 star wanted level (kill some peds or use wanted level cheat), then let cops shoot at you. Now look at stats menu and you will notice the accuracy changes.

EDIT: In this whole time, I thought that the accuracy stat is only player related. That explains why my accuracy was always between 50 and 60.

Interesting. That's probably a result of developer oversight. Rockstar probably intended for the accuracy stat to count bullets fired by the player only, but forgot to distinguish between bullets fired by the player and bullets fired by NPCs.

I wonder if this bug exists in GTA III too.

I'm pretty sure the foggy weather can occur outside of that mission, but it's extremely rare. It has happened to me a couple of times years ago before unlocking Diaz's missions.

I should check the weather cycle in the game's files just out of curiosity.

One thing I accidentally discovered a few days ago, but I'm pretty sure it's known:

You (well, at least I) can only drive-by in a helicopter in the cinematic view. While doing it, you hear the Sea Sparrow/Hunter's machine gun sound effect instead of a submachine gun (Tec, Uzi, etc.).

@up I wouldn't be me if I wrote such things without checking ;). The following link is mentioned on page 8 of this thread few times already, but let's have a look again.

http://www.gtamodding.com/wiki/Time_cycle#Vice_City_2

There are two weather cycles which are nearly the same, except the "hurricane" features heavy rain instead of normal raindrops. Weather ID 3, that is fog, is not present in both cycles.

After checking the source code I conclude that only during "Checkpoint Charlie" is it possible to get this kind of weather for a while.

I remember I experienced the foggy weather first in Vice City Multiplayer (after playing a few years of VC, because who would mind doing one boat race for 4 times?!).

Since there's been no reply for a week, I'd like to point out one thing, which quite struggled me - the beach ball.

I've found a beachball in Leaf Links Golf Club, in one of the sandpits. Here's the location:
13d4b9ea60cc5fe6e72c0e163d9733fe.png

This leads me to believe the beachballs can randomly spawn in any place with sand.

I made a search in the map files and there are only two results for "ball". Two objects "beachball" with id 526 spawns on Starfish Island, their location:

SDMni.png
cpqT.png

And there are no results in the MAIN.SCM file for "ball" or "526".

So, where are the other balls? An article on Grand Theft Wiki (same as on Wikia, ehh) stays that they spawn occasionally on Vice Beach. I've been there for a few times now and I have not seen a single beach ball.

I searched on Youtube for some proofs of it and found only one video where a ball spawned on the beach (PS2 version of VC, but this doesn't matter?).

If anyone can post a picture of a ball on a beach I'd be grateful (with a description how you did it ;) ).

My thought: spawning balls on sand is likely hardcoded in the game engine.

The beachball spawns similarly to other beach objects, most notably the beach towels. When I get the time, I will check the exact conditions for them.

I got sidetracked from the beachball into the aquatic life. I found that only up to 8 objects can be spawned at a time in the water. You also have to be still for at least five seconds (!) in order for the aquatic life to spawn.

EDIT: Progress update! There must be at least 20 seconds between each beachball spawn attempt, collision surface must be sand, you must be near the ocean, and you must be moving at less than 1.5 m/s -- jogging (not sprinting), moving slowly in a car, or stopped completely -- in order for the beachballs to spawn. Up to 3 can spawn at a time but once at least one is spawned, they must despawn before another batch can be spawned. They will always spawn outside your field-of-view, no less than 30 units and no more than 50 units from the player character. I have not figured out all the conditions yet but seeing all the conditions I found so far, it must be really uncommon for anyone to stumble upon a wild beachball. First I thought the conditions were similar to beach towels but it wasn't the case. At least I created something funny with it:

beachballs_th.jpg

I found exactly where in the code that the beachball spawns. Next is to find how. So I removed all the conditions and beachballs were everywhere:

beachballs2_th.jpg

beachballs4_th.jpg

Removed condition that it spawns only on sand:

beachballs5_th.jpg

New discovery! Lounge chairs also spawn like beachballs! Got this to happen while getting beachballs to spawn in a normal game:

beachballs3_th.jpg

Sand is also on the Vice City Mainland part. Do the beach balls spawn there too?

The beach in Downtown? It's not technically sand. Sand will show footprints when you walk over it.

Nice finds, spaceeinstein! So everything relating to the beachball, except for the spawn points on Starfish Island, is hardcoded in the .exe, correct?
