Cool Things You Didn't Know About Vice City

Recommended Posts

MrPeteyMax

Right around the pizza joint downtown, there's an alleyway and somewhere in the alleyway, there's an enclave thing and there's an FBI Washington parked there. I know it's probably old news by now, but it was hot sh*t back then, finding it out on accident and all.

This sh*t was the absolute bomb.

In the mission "Psycho Killer" when there's a serial killer in the crowd, if you kill them before activating the cut scene, you'll still fail the mission for "disturbing the crowd"

SHIIIT the music store where you get that nutter is RIGHT by where the FBI Washington was.

There's a little scale model of a battleship at Interglobal Studios outside of a building that's housing an actual battleship set. Again, folks probably know about this already yet it always amazed me, it being there and all.

Damn, that movie set was fun. Hell, I remember getting in there VIA stunt jump before unlocking the ability to buy it and I always thought the porno set was some sort of talk show set since it had a couch and sh*t. But then why did it have a bed? And a giant shark? Oh, mysteries.

The moon landing set was pretty cheeky though.

I always wondered what was with the UFO, a British phone box and a pool with a Destroyer warship as a back drop considering it's a porn studio; Steve Scott is one twisted motherf*cker.

I wouldn't think all of it would be for porn. I know in VCS, that Reni dude works there and he's doing like commercial sh*t, not only that but they were also filming some zombie flick over at the nearby mall. But yeah, I'm just as interested in seeing UFO phone booth battleship porn as you are.

You never know, I mean one of the direct quotes from Steve Scott is "So, the giant shark comes in there and just bites their dicks off!", god knows what else he's up to; Moon landing alien porn? Shark attack battleship porn? Who knows. I also just found out that Steve Scott was voiced by Dennis Hopper, RIP.

Another thing you guys may or not know is that if you need more speed whilst on a PCJ, pull a wheelie so that the rear of the bike starts scraping then alternate between tapping lean forward and lean back; Tommy will stand up and down and the bike will shake, eventually it'll end and you'll get a pretty big speed boost. In stunting this is known as RAD's method; pretty old technique (found in San Andreas around 2005) but it's always nice to know (and use to beat people in races on SAMP :p)

Speaking of Easy Rider, get on a Freeway and back up. While you're backing up, look to your left/right and press the drive by button. Tommy will end up shooting himself in his leg and his health will go down. At least this happens on the original PS2 version, I dunno about any other ones.

When I turn off trails no water/droplets appear on screen, but this is the PS2 version downloaded via PSN.

Another nice little touch is that the gas pump props that are around the back of the studios will explode if shot at. :p

One thing I came to think of; During the cutscene of "Messing With the Man", the head of a pedestrian randomly appears on the floor of the bar.

http://i.imgur.com/50jxeit.jpg

Throwing a grenade in the ocean next to a school of fish will generate splashes of blood as the grenade detonates.

There is a literal easter egg in the game http://www.grandtheftwiki.com/images/Eastereggpodium-GTAVC.jpg

On the bottom of the ocean there are on two places two men who have been fitted with concrete shoes.

The whole game is full of gems like this, I'll type them out if I can think of any more.

Also, I've had rain/blood droplets appear on the screen before and I've never played with the trails on as far as I can remember.

I remember when you went to do the movie studio missions, if you were to park a car inside one of the warehouses and start the mission, the cutscene characters will clip through the car which is still parked there. I found that out with my friends when we were like 8 or whatever and we were laughing for days.

Ah sh*t. I should've checked. I could merge it with this one, but then it would look a bit messy.

I get water droplets and blood droplets even without trails on my default game.

I also get droplets/blood with and without trails.

Hmm, maybe the droplets remain visible in the original version of the game, but not other versions. I have the Greatest Hits version.

Officer Ronson

- The Vice City Police Department is based after the Metro Dade County Police which are rather more symbolic than their Miami PD counterparts and they're also bigger in number.

- In both Vice City and Vice City Stories normal police officers are blonde.

- During the story it is heavily implied that the VCPD SWAT team is heavily corrupted and tends to accept bribes which go to their retirement fund that is at a deposit box in El Banco Corrupto Grande, the bank heist originally had Rosenber telling you that it was done specifically to take away those funds, he still celebrates about it (If I recall) either way.

- El Banco Corrupto Grande literally translates into The Corrupt Bank Big.

- Unlike other games in 3D era FBI agents are presented as young and energetic opposed to the cynic middle age men we commonly deal with.

- The soldiers at Fort Baxter, the golfers at the Leaf link Club and the Patrol Investment Group guards are all identified as gangs and will act like so.

- The ammunation Clerk and the Fast Food restaurant attendant have Sam Houser's face, internally the ammunation Clerk is also known as Sam. Sam also was the ammunation clerk in GTA III.

- Ray Liotta starred in Cop Land, there's a mission in the game with the same name that has you lure a couple of cops into a garage, take their uniforms and go to set up a bomb somewhere in the North Point Mall after Mike couldn't.

- If you have a quick eye you might notice that when Lance and Tommy get the cops into the garage the law enforcers will be automatically decapitated and their bodies will dissapear in just seconds.

If you look reaaaaaally closely you can see the shadow is on the ramp right next to it. It's just from.a angle you can barely see it

It seems not many people know about de 8Balls bomb shop. So here it is:

SFW, No Perennials were hurt during the screenshot. For further information on their story and why they are in the screenshot, call 1-866-9-SAVE ME

And the Blue Perennial which isn't in mint condition as you can see, has been hospitalised for a scratch.

Turns out that Wardrum Studios CAN make a good port. It just went wrong with San Andreas...

Didja know:

the stars in the night sky are not a texture like the moon, but point-source lights at dummy cubes above the map

Also, a great bug -

steal a tank and go max wanted... drive that tank into Vice Port from the north, past the Pay-N-Spray, and a cop car flies off the roof at you. (It's supposed to spawn on the street)

I dunno what the hell this thing is, but it always reminded me of a steam locomotive when I was younger.

Or if you want it to be a texture you can check out AllBeast's skymod which looks really nice:

Anyway, everybody knows about the 100 fares taxi boost, but another stunting method you can use with a little practice is using the taxi boost to boost up a wall. For example, some random boost to the Staunton Construction I landed for a 24hr stuntvid I need to edit. Really useful especially if you're trying to outrun the police.

Certain box trucks spawn with (poorly textured) dead pigs hanging on meat hooks in the rear. They can be seen if you knock the rear door off.

I found these in the back of a Mule with "R.S. & L. Bows" (ha!) livery.
