Here, you can post all the stuff you didn't know about Vice City! I'll begin:

I found a Joni Mitchell reference on K-Chat, which mentions the chorus 1969 song "Woodstock". It is mentioned at about 28:22

I didn't realise the PCJ-600 has a kinda turbo sound, hard to explain, and hard to notice, but now I always hear it.

Tommy Vercetti's distinctive walk resembles that of Sonny Crockett in the Payback episode of Miami Vice. One of the more obscure references to the series in Vice City, it stands to reason Rockstar ate up all the Miami Vice tapes they could during production.

You can see it at 1:21. Color of Crockett's pants are the same color as Vercetti's Soiree Suit too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11CaEQtxhvc

It's replicated almost frame for frame at the end of Trailer #2 from 52 seconds in.

Heh, nice find! I was gonna say, that must be some reason as to why he walks a little more "off" than, say, Claude, for example.

Also, did anyone else notice how when you steered the Freeway or Angel bike, Tommy sticks out his leg according to the turn (sticks out left leg for left turns, etc.) However, wouldn't doing that on a real life Harley be foolish? Think about it. Dirtbikes are supposed to be lightweight to get around those courses and all that dirt, not to mention that they stick their leg out to "catch" the bike if the front end starts to wash out. Try doing that on a Harley that weighs about 850 pounds, Tommy's foot is gonna get sore in the morning.

But that shouldn't be a problem to him. After all, he can do damn near everything but swim, right?

Sorry, I don't see anything in common. The "walk towards the camera" scene is nothing unique and is used widely in many movies when building action.

Vice City was originally intended as an expansion pack to GTA III:

Quote

vicecitygta3expansion.jpg

What it says:

GTA 3: Vice City, the official expansion for GTA 3. will take you to a new lively city in the 80's ambience. In this new city you'll have to deal with cuban motorbike gangs and you too will be able to drive on a motorbike. Blablabla, boats, blablabla, airplanes. It's a non-linear campaign against corrupt politicians and Cuban gangsters.

During heavy storms, traffic lights flash yellow and traffic does not stop.

If you leave the "trails" setting on, rain droplets form on the screen when it is raining or if you drive a boat in the water (confirm me on this). Also, if you use the chainsaw against some unlucky person, blood droplets will form on the screen.

The hidden packages are A direct reference to an episode of Miami Vice called "Milk Run" I discovered that today on GTA Wiki

- Vice City was the first and only GTA along with VCS to have a fully enterable Airport interior.

- Vice City was the first GTA to have a fully enterable Night club.

- Vice City was the first GTA to introduce armed bodyguards.

- If you use a trainer, and go above the ceiling in Ammu-nation (Cannot remember how it is done exactly) you can see Ronald Reagan (the then US President) pointing a gun at Mikhail Gorbachev (the then Russian President) suggesting that the Cold War (Which in real-life was taking place during Vice City's time) was present in the GTA world too.

What do you mean? GTA 1, GTA 2, and GTA III all featured body armor.

IIRC you don't even need a trainer. Just standing in the store and aiming the rocket launcher in some specific direction and then turning around "in to" the wall will show you that poster.

Anybody else notice that little marker in front of that hot dog store in the North Point mall? Does it mean that eating was supposed to be implemented in VC, then removed for unknown reasons?

Eating was implemented in VC. You just need to have lost some health in order to see it. If you go to the restaurants at the mall, the Well Stacked Pizza Co. shops, or various other places when you're down a few points on health, you'll see a small pink marker in front of the counter. Entering this marker will replenish your health.

Like the equivalent threads in the GTA IV and GTA V forums this thread is designed to talk about things you may not necessary know that's in VC. Of course we all know VC is an old game so it's likely people might already know this stuff, but you never know and a refresher doesn't hurt anyone right?

I'll start...

-During "Back Alley Brawl" even if you kill Leo by running him over Tommy will still act like he's just been in a fight during the cutscene.

Pizzaboy scooter spawns near the estate after completion of the Pizza Boy side mission. However, a programming mistake has set it to spawn under the ground, so it does not actually appear.

Officer Ronson

- There are two guard models in the game, (I forgot the actual names but just go along with this) Security A and Security B. They're practically the same in appeareance but both spawn because the Patrol Investment Group Officers are identified as a gang in the game thus they act like one, get in fights with others and even get chased by cops.

- This is the first GTA in where police tactical units were able to deploy via fast-rope.

- Shooting in different areas of the body would play different death animations, future GTAs didn't have this.

- This might of had been obvious for a little while now but the guys who ambush you and Pierre Ponce are from the GIGN.

-If you leave the "trails" setting on in the display menu, water droplets will appear on the screen (as if they are on the lens of a chase camera) when it rains or if you drive through water. The same happens with blood droplets when you use the chainsaw.

-There are numerous changes between the first edition of VC released on PS2 and the Double Pack, Greatest Hits, PC, and Xbox releases. These include various changes to cutscene dialogue to remove direct references to killing Haitians and Cubans (read up on the VC Haitian Controversy) (Greatest Hits, PC, and Xbox only), various weapon name changes, a grenade pickup spawning behind the Washington Beach police station instead of tear gas, and various bug fixes (like the Ice Cream Factory save glitch and Detonator glitch).

I get water droplets and blood droplets even without trails on my default game. Is it normal?

At the first cutscene in the second mission of the game, when tommy throws the phone, its stuck on the air.

I saw this first when using a 21:9 and a 3:4 setting in ThirteenAG's widescreen fix. There are more strange cutscene artifacts, it's quite funny at times!

  • GTA Vice City was the last game were you could type in cheats in the menu

I also get droplets/blood with and without trails.

Shipping containers around the airport, such as the ones next the body armor spawn (the blue and orange ones) are glitched; the text on them has no texture so you can see through them.

Strangely, the other containers in the car park are fine.

Always been like that for me on multiple PC's. I'm sure I saw someone post about it a year or two ago.

Right around the pizza joint downtown, there's an alleyway and somewhere in the alleyway, there's an enclave thing and there's an FBI Washington parked there. I know it's probably old news by now, but it was hot sh*t back then, finding it out on accident and all.
