I've created an account to inform you guys about the small amount of progress I've made looking into the whole character transfer "Progress = possessions?" question. I have been very interested in an answer to this since R* has been very vague in their wording regarding the subject. So far the only argument I've seen for everything transferring is "Everything is stored on R* social club, so of course all possessions will be transferred." While this is true, this only means that it is possible for them to transfer everything. The real question is, will they let us? Due to the vagueness of their wordings it started to lead me to believe that they wouldn't. So i put myself in the mindset of that they won't be letting us keep our money and possessions and went back and read every article regarding the subject. I read where they mentioned they'd be giving a free garage to each character that transfers (I don't have a link right now but I'm sure somebody else remembers this and can find it).
What that seemed to mean to everyone else is, "OH COOL A THIRD GARAGE!!", but what it said to me is "Since you wont have any of you're apartments, were giving you a free garage". So this left me wanting a real answer, not some of this hopeful speculation that's been going around.
So yesterday I opened a support ticket and asked "When transferring a character from PS3 to PS4, will my character's money,apartments,cars and clothes also be transferred?". I was then referred to this article:

I then stated how my question was different than the question in this article and asked for a specific answer to my question. He then responded with "Unfortunately the article sent to you contains the released information for this issue." To me this said, if progress does equal possessions he would of been able to clarify that for me right there and say "yes it does". But he didn't, he worked around answering the question the best he could. But still there's the fact that maybe this guy truly doesn't know, or hell, I could have been talking to an automated response this whole time (but I think I've answered back and forth enough times to get past the automated responses and there was an employee signature) Now I wouldn't say this means it's 100% one way or the other, but I would say that this means that it isn't "confirmed" that we will be taking our possessions with us like many of you have so hopefully claimed. After all, why would they let us? This is the perfect way for them to "balance their in game economy" that they were were so upset got destroyed with all the illegitimate money. It would make it so there's no chance of anything bought with illegitimate money making it's way to the new consoles, no Pegasus vehicles, no "Adder bonds", nothing. As of right now, with the information provided,sadly I think all we will be taking with our characters is our rank and stats.
My support ticket is still open so I'm going to keep trying to get an answer, but I see it going the same way that it has been going. Maybe some of you should open your own tickets to see if you hear any differently. After all I'm not doing this to put down those who have pre-ordered and are excited to transfer because I plan to do the same myself. I'm just trying to get a real answer on a big question that many have overlooked or already think it has been answered.

if our apartments didn't that'd mean that only 10cars could be transferred or something like that. Since every garage now is a 10car garage, I hope that's not the case but you seem to be on a lead here.

Thanks just trying to get a real answer on this because it would really suck not to get our possessions with the transfer, I've been very interested in seeing how my vehicles would look on PS4. Also if this is true we would lose limited time items like the valentines day suits and Roosevelt.

Also, I am not going to upgrade anytime soon but I see people who think that EVERYTHING will transfer when the ToS clearly states virtual items cannot. Pretty sure people will be upset that what they think they know, is wrong.

I speculated the same thing about the free garage. R☆ wipes money, cars, and property and gives everyone a 2 car garage and $500k to start fresh on next gen. The charactor stats and rank transfer but to get rid of modded cars and glitched cash, nothing else does.

I don't think the Leviathan will return, we have the cargobob, which can float and carry things as well.

 

 

It doesn't really float... It floats by accident (you can do this trick with every helicopter at last gen, but R* is going to modify the physics system)

 

I think a proper floatable helicopter would be better - without some cargo hoist.

I already have a PS4 and I plan on pre-ordering so I wouldn't call me a naysayer either. I just don't want to be unpleasantly surprised after I transfer on the 18th, we all know that R* can very tricky about the things they say and how they say them.

Everything transfers. I am not worried.

Rockstar may have done shady things such as saying Heists coming soon and then not seeing them yet for almost a year now, but I seriously doubt they are that dickish enough to not transfer everything already present in the game that we have earned legitimately.

 

If it was glitched then fine block it, but I doubt they will block legitimately earned things.

 

I'm not saying you are wrong to be worried though, but I myself have doubts that Rockstar will actually become Cockstar and do such a thing.

I just don't think they will be able to differ what was bought with illegitimate money and what wasn't on a mass scale. With all the adder bonds that made it through the wiping of hacked money, how are they able to tell past that? To me they used GTAV on last gen as a beta for online, they basically fixed the illegitimate money problems and people making "too much" money grinding RR. so why would they let the gifts from those times make their way on to current gen where they probably have all those problems fixed?

They have wiped people's money before during the billionaire era, though some innocent people had their money wiped too. I think the innocent people got reimbursed however. I don't think Rockstar has an issue looking for players gaining illegitimate money.

They have basically fixed grinding so its not so profitable, your better off just getting a lobby going and voting for new mission or race after which is what they want. So there's doing that, which they like, or buying shark cards which they really like you doing. It's a win win for them if they don't transfer possessions, they already know they will sell tons of copies. And with the fact of people really not knowing if they keep their possessions till the pre-order date, their sales will not be effected.

I got my money wiped, but i still got 6 mil from adder bonds back in the day. They didn't have a way to take it then, why would they now? The solution would for them to keep last gen money and belonging on last gen and make current gen a fresh start.

I don't know if you are pertaining to me but if so, If i hated this game would i still play it almost daily and be on this forum? No, all I did is raise a question that I'm trying to get answered and hopefully give me and everyone else a little more info about buying the game the second time. I didn't ask this to start little internet forum fights. I guess that turns into I hate this game and I hate Rockstar. If you weren't talking to me then I apologize.

yes I found that out after I quoted it, so I would take that with a grain of salt. But you can't say for sure if we keep our possessions or not which is why I looked into this question and am trying to get a clear answer on (which I probably wont get till the 18th). It's in R* best interest to not lets us keep them, after all they are a business. I sure hope we do though.

As far as it being a dickish move not to transfer everything...well, you get to keep everything on the current version. So you're not losing anything you just can't take it with you on the new version. At least that could be their rationale.

I didn't really mean to direct that towards you, dude...you just happened to be the last person to mention it. Sorry if it looked like an attack

 

Hopefully, this maintenance period is going to be another player cleanup as well so that only those with legit cash and possessions can transfer over with everything. I just don't see how it's in Rockstar's best interest not to transfer stuff. We already know that not every player is jumping right away, and not transferring everything could (and likely would) stop a lot of those people from bothering to upgrade. That would seemingly cost Rockstar a whole lot more than they'd make on those evil, evil cash cards some like to complain about (but no one knows exactly how many get sold). That would be a real public relations nightmare for them to be sure.

 

I'm really not even slightly concerned...Rockstar will not allow my 66 days + go to waste by confining it strictly to the relics, and 20 days from now will be a very good day.

 

EDIT: Agree as well with MissM...it's nice to see people put in the effort once and a while, and you certainly put in some effort.

I would be totally fine with starting over money-wise and possession-wise. If I did, I would reallocate my funds more wisely. I've wasted a ton of money on cars I barely used. My arsenal is full of guns I hate and never use, but have to scroll through anyway.

I would be totally fine with starting over money-wise and possession-wise. If I did, I would reallocate my funds more wisely. I've wasted a ton of money on cars I barely used. My arsenal is full of guns I hate and never use, but have to scroll through anyway.

But I would lose my rank and all the good stuff would be gated off again.
