Beta Vice City

Everyone probably noticed but in the intro the beta has a shot of some apartments instead of Tommy on a motorcycle

 

The cop car seems to be something in between the green/white cop car and the all white cop car? Or the new cop car with old colors applied or something? Its doors are grey.

 

Maybe I just don't remember it but Tommy seems to say some voice lines when he has a wanted level that I don't remember being there before.

There are a few cheat codes that can be accessed via the d-pad on controller 1 in the leaked build.

Right-left x3 = increase wanted level

Down-up x3 = decrease wanted level

Left-up x3 = seems to draw a blue wire-frame box around some areas for only one frame? (Might be related to this and the DEBUG_ON opcode? The boxes are drawn around markers used by stores but not around mission markers. But the boxes also appear in other areas, for instance, around some buildings south of the North point mall)

Tap all buttons one by one clockwise x3 = health cheat

Tap all buttons one by one counterclockwise x3 = weapon cheat

Down on the left analog stick on the second controller. Keep in mind that some features are only accessible without the cheat mode on, while others are only accessible with the cheat mode on.

The may build is def from John Doe. He also has a midnight club one too. It's fair to assume that he's got other ones too

Anyways, some other controls I found on the second controller (not an exhaustive list):

Start button: Enables/disables HUD

Triangle: Enables/disables cheat mode
Circle: Freezes the camera at an angle while also letting you control Tommy

  • While in this mode, square moves the camera forward and cross moves it backwards
  • Left and right on the right analog moves the camera to the left and right at a greater speed, while up and down will move it forward and backwards at a greater speed
  • Left and right on the left analog moves rotates the camera to the left and right, while up and down tilts the camera up and down
  • R2 teleports Tommy to the camera's position

Select: Turns cars and peds off, but only if cheat mode is enabled

Down on the D-pad: Spawns weapons

R1: Spawns vehicles and skips time ahead if held down

L1: Changes weather if cheat mode is off

Left and right on the D-pad: selects the next mission to be played

R3: Teleports to the next mission's starting location

If you do the bridge clip at Prawn Island there's actually textures loaded, where in the final game it looks like you're walking on water beneath the road surface.

on PC it's backface-culled. try this on the final ps2 game.

For those interested, the VICEPAL.PSS file has the earlier version of the intro and the audio stream is lossless PCM. So if you want a high quality version of that theme... there.

been a nut over the theme music, truly a pleasure to hear this version of it. Wish there was a working multitrack somewhere so I could inspect every layer! 

Been also trying to find a HQ version of the released version, pain to locate.

Some billboards from outside Interglobal Studios like one featuring an retro Interglobal logo is unfinished as it doesn't have the billboard's wooden base and it's just the texture. Also billboards disappear when you get far and only appear when you are closer.

North Point Mall's entrance doors are transparent from the outside and buggy as the interior is not loaded.

Also, some text on the Spanish language were missing however the translation was mostly complete at the time of the build.

 

(The "buggy and unfinished" movie studio billboards from outside are also present on the final PS2 version at least on emulator, I don't know if it happens on real PS2 hardware.)

Correct me if I got something wrong. I'm too lazy to play the entire build.

I find this quite interesting, the arpeggio was cut-pasted on the start (which to me means they were working on the opening and tweaking the main meat of the layers). There's a lot of differences between each mix, a lot of it remains the same but there's some layers that are removed in the finalized master. 

To me, as an Audio junkie, I want my hands on the multitrack sessions of both the Early (Beta-Demo) and Officially Released Final Versions to compare, figure out and just see what precisely was changed. Wouldn't mind merging the 2 masters together and form a new remix of the theme, because some of those early layers are fantastic - what a shame to remove them!

I Нахожу это довольно интересным, арпеджио было вырезано и вставлено с самого начала (что для меня означает, что они работали над открытием и подправкой основного мяса слоев). Между каждым миксом есть много различий, многие из них остаются неизменными, но есть некоторые слои, которые удаляются в окончательном мастере.

Мне, как помешанному на аудио, я хочу, чтобы мои руки были в руках многодорожечных сессий как ранней (бета-демо), так и официально выпущенной финальной версий, чтобы сравнить, выяснить и просто увидеть, что именно было изменено. Был бы не прочь объединить 2 мастера вместе и сформировать новый ремикс на тему, потому что некоторые из этих ранних слоев фантастические - как жаль, что их удалять!

Somebody's gotta have the multitrack sessions ... I NEED it. 

I will also note, there's a slightly different speed in both versions, I think it's because the original master is NTSC and the Demo is PAL (2 different sources).

Lack of the bass drum makes the biggest difference, glad they added it. And that thing that look like an arch in the spectrogram, I believe it's called phaser.
Getting the source MIDI would be hella interesting.

Didn't expect someone to whip out the Adobe Audition spectrograms but here we are :kekw: I thought of doing that myself but wasn't sure how many people would even care or be able to read it.

I believe it's a type of Phaser, Been trying to figure out that specific one as it's used on another piece of music I follow, it's definitely a type of that. 

Midi would be great for entire remixes/variants I do myself. However, the stems (The Multitrack) is something I'd love to have, being able to listen to each layer and literally rebuild/remix the Demo and Final Masters into a new piece of music. The amount of hours I'd spend just on that alone + processing several layers, making a brand new remixed version ... 80 layers and killing my computer. 

I'm insane, never show this side of me on here :starekek:
