Do you mean Tommy’s mansion when you refer to “the mansion”? I’m pretty sure it’s still there, albeit it’s just covered by the trees

I found this reddit comment saying that there was a fat Tommy system in VC like SA originally

Is this true? Can someone confirm please?

Yes one of the pre-release screenshots showed Tommy with a tummy. I think in the end they scrapped it in favor of having different outfits. The outfit system is very primitive they would have had to make different stages of weight for every outfit model.

I think it's this one, though he's less fat than I remembered him for some reason.

The screenshot must be from very early in development judging from the GTA 3 shotgun

Any idea where Vadim found this HD version of this very very early screenshot?

It looks as if it has GTA 3 buildings

Probably found on a screenshot site received hi-quality screenshots from Rockstar back in the day.

Also it's one of the homes in Starfish Island

Tommy doesn't look as sexy and as hot as in the final version...

According to commented code in the leaked SCM sources among the Defective Edition files, you could originally fetch a change of clothes from the Skumole Shack after buying it...

There was also this cut camera positioning code in the "Skumole Shack purchased" cutscene that weirdly points to Mitch Baker's contact point:

Greasy Chopper as a purchasable property (presumably with an unlocked interior) would've been lit as f*ck. I used to desperately want to be able to get in there and play pool.

Iirc there are coordinates for the other common safehouses having clothes pickup icons. And about the biker clubhouse. Hmm could the missions involving bikers be part of some sort of property mission too? Like. We have the Ice cream factory. The film studio. The car showroom, the printworks. Hell Even the Malibu. Most of the places we purchase were mission places too. So it make sense the clubhouse could have been a place that You could purchase

Nothing super important (and I probably could've written this in like a 100 less words), but I had always wondered why Rockstar decided to shove Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles onto Flash FM instead of Wave 103. Flash FM largely played contemporary pop tracks post-1981, whereas Video Killed The Radio Star stands out as being the oldest track on the station, dating back to 1979, and it certainly sounds a tiny bit out of place in comparison to the other Flash FM tracks.

Video Killed The Radio Star is a track that pretty much has epitomized new-wave, and so, placing it onto Flash's tracklist instead of Wave made no real sense. Sure, it was a very popular song, but so were many other songs on Wave 103 as well. What gives?

I never paid that much attention to the "pre-track banter" and DJ intros, but something that caught my attention playing Vice City recently is that Wave 103 DJ Adam First during the outro of ABC's Poison Arrow says: "The next track parodies that state of affairs by contrasting the old days of radio with the new world order of music videos in which perversely, it seems that artists looks seem to be more important than musical talent". Which then shortly cues to Flock Of Seagull's I Ran. A song that has absolutely nothing to do with the description Adam gave.

Guess what song matches that description perfectly though. It's obvious to me Rockstar moved Video Killed The Radio Star to Flash FM some time late into development, just like they did Aneka's Japanese Boy (as according to the Soundtrack Sampler CD, it was meant to be on Wave 103 first, and as a novelty new wave track, would've worked better on said station).

I think these songs ended up being moved to prevent Flash FM's mix from being too short. It already is the shortest station in the game, so moving some tracks to help fill space definitely did it some favors. In contrast to Flash however, Wave 103 actually is the second to longest music station in the game. Considering how often Flash FM and Wave 103's genres parallel each other, and that the lengths of both stations were inconsistent, I can see why they decided to spread these tracks out over the 2 stations. Still, if you obssess over this game's music like I do, it's a fun little tidbit.

It also leads to me to believe Flash FM probably had a ton of songs cut pretty late into development (something which is corroberated by the Soundtrack CD), and they had to quickly compensate for those losses somehow.

Is it just me or does this beta gun look more like a Automag rather than a Silenced Colt? The long attachment looks more like the barrel of a automag than a silencer.  Here's the automag from TBOGT for comparison.spacer.pngspacer.png

Infact it's not a silenced pistol, It's a Wildey Magnum .44 (or 47.5)

They either put that "silencedcolt" as a placeholder or it could've been actual silenced colt in beta but later replaced with Wildey then they didn't care to change it's name since it's cut or it was a Rockstar moment (You know, Rockstar not knowing their guns)

It's funny how in VC and VCS, both Flash FM and Wave 103 hate each other yet they both play Pop and New Wave, you can make the argument that Flash uses American artists while Wave uses British & London artists but still.

Also a small correction here; Emotion 98.3 is the SHORTEST radio station in the game.

Hello.

A curious fact. We know that there was a rifle Steyr AUG in the beta version of the game. For many years I thought how did AUG get to the development stage? And, it seems, I found the answer. I'm watching the Miami Vice series right now. In the second season in the third series at 32:52 (screenshot from film: https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEJDZUT ), detective Sonny Crocket holds AUG for the first time.

We know that GTA: Vice City was created under the impression of films: Miami Vice, Scarface and others.

I assume that Rockstar Games, watching the old seasons of Miami Vice, saw this scene, but for some reason decided to remove AUG from the game. :cookie:

You know this game was confirmed for release in October 2002 by Rockstar on around 22 May 2002 if my analogy is correct, so prior to this announcement the (supposed?) working titles for this game were GTA 4: Miami and GTA: Miami according to neeoseeker.com threads circa February/March 2002 following the release of Grand Theft Auto III, now is that true or is this just rumours from the fans then? 😒

The forum users also predicted GTA: Miami to be an expansion pack to III due in the end of 2002, which thankfully became Vice City at the end, but they strangely predicted GTA 4 to be an all new game due in 2003/2004, they were four years too early it seems! 🤔

The timelines seem totally crazy to me now, announcing a GTA in May for an October release of that same year. What an epoch that was to live in.

It certainly does my friend, apparently work began on Vice City the month after III was released, so therefore November 2001 then, it still puzzles me how they made this game in just nine months it seems! 🤔

That was the story, it was originally supposed to be an expansion for III. Kinda explains why the whole map was rushed and sh*tty tbh, at least design wise
