What if Vice City had all the features San Andreas had?

Now I'm not saying if the atmosphere was bigger, because let's face it. Vice City was supposed to be small. It was a city from Florida, whereas San Andreas is a state with different cities. So of course it's going to be big. I'm talking about the protagonists themselves. I've seen people praise CJ due to the fact that you could work out with him at the gym and learn fighting styles, and that those are the reasons his fanboys/girls say that they like him better than Tommy. Those same people talk about how they hate Tommy due to the lack of development of his character. But what if Vice City gave us the ability to work out at a gym and learn new fighting styles? I guarantee everyone that if Vice City had those features, nobody would be hating Tommy. Admit it.

Agreed. People always talk about how CJ is a better protagonist due to the fact that he could learn fighting styles, but if Tommy had those abilities and CJ didn't, people would say otherwise. To me, Tommy is a better protagonist than CJ personality wise, with or without those features.

Agree with the OP, nobody would hate Tommy if he had all the character customization opportunities that CJ had. But, Tommy's personnality plus character customization from SA would be a very good blend.

All I would really take from SA and put in VC is vehicle customising and more clothing options, gambling (Although I'm not sure how this would fit in VC since there are no casinos. Maybe it could be underground type gambling?) and burglary.

I've never understood the fascination with the gym and learning different fighting styles. CJ can become buff and know different types of martial arts yet still acts like a little pussy. IMO it's very overrated and doesn't add much to the experience.

If people genuinely use this as a measure to compare CJ to Tommy I don't have much faith in humanity.

That's all these CJ fanboys do. Use his fighting styles in the game against Tommy just to say who would win in a fight. First of all, R* didn't even focus on features when they made Vice City because they had not yet got through the detail of the game. So of course Tommy's not going to have all those fighting styles. Second, if Vice City gave us the ability to work out with Tommy and made him buffer (he's chubby in the game), people would be praising Tommy the same way they praise CJ.

Oh well. Tommy's not called "The Harwood Butcher" for nothing. I'd say he doesn't need them.

MythicalCreature

I'd only take the swimming.

And the ability to change to any outfit from a safehouse. Pickups for clothes were a pain in the ass.

And the Import/Export features from SA, the ability to reimport any car that has been exported.

Also, I wouldn't mind if car customization was included.

f*ck the rest of the features though. They'd feel weird and/or slightly out of place in VC, imagine Tommy with bald hair... Who'd want that?

I've been reading most of the hate for Tommy from most users these days and they've been talking about how CJ would beat them in a fight. Well no sh*t that CJ could learn all those fighting styles, because R* made improvements to GTA San Andreas over its predecessor. If Vice City gave us the ability to work out Tommy and make him muscular rather than keep him chubby, people would be saying that HE would beat CJ in a fight. I don't judge protagonists on their ability to fight, because that's something the player makes them do. I judge on their personality, and Tommy beats CJ with that, although he's also behind Niko by that as well.

The ability to swim, more clothing options, best fighting moves, gambling and vehicle customization would be tits.

Frankly i don't to want to buff or thin tommy since i find perfect the way he is..

Oh god

Imagine those beautiful blurs and that shiny orange sky in Vice City (like in GTA SA PS2)

Those blurs, looked absolutely sh*tty. I can't figure out how anything would like them.

The only thing I really wanted in VC or even III was the ability to swim. Vice City Stories sort of fixed that. The RPG elements in SA were kinda meh.

I'd really like a new gen Vice City with a similar feel, but more emphasis on the island gang territory that wasn't fully explored in the original (Auntie Poulet missions, for example). I like the idea of having a whole subculture or a small town within a city. There are even areas in V that don't feel explored within missions (Grove Street and surrounding areas).

Tommy was part of the forelli mob so that automatically makes him better than cj, although I prefer sa over vc

When SA was released, we moaned on and on about this very subject.

Factoid: VC was a much more compelling context than SA ever could be. (ok, so MAYBE that's opinion.. :p )

But the sentiment at the time was basically, VC would have been PERFECT if only it had:
- swimming
- bicycles
- tractor-trailers with working 5th wheel
- a few other nitpicky game-engine features and details that weren't available in VC

Mostly, the gym/haircuts/outfits/dating features were seen as too much like EA's Sims franchise for anybody's liking, and that's where the camps parted ways.
Personally, I never much liked or wanted those bugs features getting in the way of the storyline.

Seems to me that those were more the favorites of those newer to the GTA franchise, who didn't have the same expectations of those who were very used to the former titles.

You add climbing and being able to move whilst crouching too. Since I started playing VC again it annoys me how Tommy can't get over some low lying walls.

If Michael can do it I don't see why Tommy can't. He's 35. Not 75.

Yeah. 35's not even middle age.

Let's be real here. If San Andreas didn't give the player the ability to build muscle and learn fighting styles, CJ would be a mediocre protagonist. And if Vice City did give up the ability to take our player to the gym to build muscle and learn different fighting styles, the people who hate Tommy would like him and call him a badass (which he already is).

I've said it before and I'll say it again CJ is mediocre with or without learning different fighting styles and the gym. It doesn't change anything how I feel about him personally.

I know he's still mediocre even with the features, but a lot of CJ fanboys/girls only see those features as the advantage he has, and I guarantee you than none of them would be riding CJ's fictional dick had San Andreas not had any of the abilities to work out. Not that I'm saying that Tommy needs the ability to work out and learn fighting styles (he's neither skinny nor muscular. he's just slightly chubby) because he's still a badass either way, but had Tommy had those abilities CJ has, most, if not all of CJ's fans wouldn't hate Tommy the way they do now.

There's only one feature in GTA: San Andreas I liked to see in GTA: Vice City and other 3D Universe GTA games: the Camera. I know that you can use it in the missions "Martha's Mug Shot" in GTA: Vice City, "Snappy Dresser" and "Stop the Press" in GTA: Liberty City Stories and "The Mugshot Longshot" in GTA: Vice City Stories, or in the side-mission "See the Sight Before Your Flight" in GTA: Liberty City Stories, but I'm talking about the ability to freely take pictures with it and save them in the player's "Gallery". The same goes for GTAIV, in fact I'm glad that GTAV has Snapmatic.

Besides this, I believe that each game has its own "soul", so I don't think that a feature from other GTA games would make another one better just because of that additional element.

ROCKSTAR MANIC

Some implementation of San Andreas would definitely Bring greater replay value to Vice city than what it already has. Of course if you slice and dice the game, make it more better and update its graphics and animations of course.
