Random crashes?! HELP!

Okay so as you may know, I built my first gaming PC not too long ago. YAY.

Everything is fine and dandy, except for one thing, IT RANDOMLY CRASHES!!

 

Now let me be more specific, the crash is really weird, basically everything will disappear, my browser will shut down, the start button and task bar will completely disappear, all my desktop icons will disappear and the only thing that is visible is my desktop wallpaper. I can't even right click anywhere to bring up any options. I can press CTRL ALT DEL to bring up task manager, and I can access everything through that, but the desktop is completely bare.

 

What could be causing this? I've googled it and found nothing that helps, and hardly found anyone having the same issues as me. I've done fully virus scans and my PC was completely clean. And I'm fairly certain its a windows error as opposed to a hardware error.

I remember I had this issue back when I was like 17 and was using a shared PC. Turned out it was just a virus that was on there and would f*ck with sh*t. I don't think it would be a hardware issue since your PC isn't actually freezing or crashing/shutting down. Sounds like it may be a bad Windows file. Best bet is to reinstall windows and see if it fixes the issue. At least it will rule out if its a hardware issue or not.
