Yeah its telling that he now rescinds his remarks it just shows they're not his true feelings. He obviously believes, or once did, that women should "shut up and accept whatever cheque a man feels they're worth."

 

I think its amazing someone so high up can have this job and hold these views about women's pay. I think it shows total insincerity that you have to immediately apologise for your comments did he really have such a quick change of heart. I know people in the media sphere need to do 'damage control' when they say the wrong thing but it still seems insincere.

 

Anyway I personally think its wrong ethically for women to receive lower pay simply because they're women so if they close the gender gap good for them. It's kind of like how african americans received lower pay than their white counterparts so I can see where they are coming from.
