chainsoar
So I've been playing Midnight Club: LA again recently, and aside from enjoying the hell out of the extensive modification system (seriously R*, how did you achieve this greatness in 2008 then give us such a limited set of options in 2013?), I've had a thought about the vehicle storage/garage space debate in GTA Online. For those who haven't played MC:LA, basically you're sponsored by a local mechanic named Karol who provides customisation and upgrades for your vehicles and allows you to store them on his property. Honestly, I think GTA:O would have been better if R* had repeated this set up. Think about it. Hau is involved in illegal street racing, it's not even remotely a stretch to have players believe he's playing Karol's role here. Even if you're not a racer it could be said that Hau has criminal contacts who set you up with him. This way, you could either do away with apartments altogether or just use them to evade police or players, go AFK, have a safe spawn point, etc. It also means you could store a much larger collection of vehicles. The possibility of combining the two systems is also worth talking about, where perhaps the above could be in place but your apartment might have a garage attached with a selection of your favourites on display ready for quick access. Pure idle fantasy thread, discuss your ideas and thoughts about my post. ZeroSafe and TCMike
WHAT!?
The same thought had occurred to me as well, but more along the lines of Midnight Club's basic vehicle selection screens... The player drives into their garage and they are greeted with a view of the vehicle they drove in. They can then pull down the vehicle selection menu and watch as a short animation plays where one vehicle pulls out and another one pulls in. This would get rid of the need to cap a certain amount of vehicles for a certain amount of space, since technically you could just scroll through and customize every vehicle in the game and save it to your character (provided there are no hardware limitations preventing you from doing so). There is no need to walk around the garage and see every car you own parked along the wall at once. The current system has created an unfortunate static limitation, not to mention the sheer amount of wasted space that seems to plague the current system as well. The 10 car garages as well as the 6 car garages could easily fit more vehicles. When we were told that we would have our own mechanic in GTA Online, I had hoped the Midnight Club vehicle management would be the system we would end up with. A garage/hideout/showroom/LS Customs one stop. Oh well, I suppose. Edited October 11, 2014 by WHAT!? chainsoar and YG.
redpoint
I think possibly the only reason for this not happening is so that we CAN see all of our vehicles at once. GTA Online is all about progression and working our way up the criminal ladder, by seeing all of our cars at once we can showoff our achievements and fortunes, I suppose its all an image thing. Still, you're not showing it off unless you take a friend into your garage with you. Or if someone visiting your apartment happens to head down to your garage to have a look. In both of those cases your friends could be given access to the same menu system that I spoke of, only they would be viewing your vehicles without an option to alter them. I really don't think it would get in the way of being able to appreciate your assets. ::EDIT:: For that matter, what about the boats and aircraft the player owns? We are not given a marina or a hanger in which they all spawn. I've never heard anyone complain about the selection method for those vehicles. Edited October 11, 2014 by WHAT!?
