FranklinDeRoosevelt
These cops should be executed in front of public. f*cking disgraceful c*nts. Of course, it's no surprise that its in Murica. And the people defending these mental cops should be in the same category of borderline retardation and need to be taught a lesson. If someone isn't wearing their seatbelts, you simply go upto them, knock on the window and nicely ask them to wear it for their own safety, if they don't comply, give them a ticket that they have to pay. Simple. If they still don't comply, either calmly ask them to get out of the car so they can get arrested or let them drive on and face the consequences. But if it happens in the USA it's a big deal. Double standard I tell you Probably because the USA is a 1st world country, and sh*t like this isn 't supposed to happen in a 1st world country. Mexico is 2nd world, and cop brutality happens so often it's common.
gtamann123
USA isn't a first world country. If the USA is 1st world then China and Russia is as well. And you would have a tough time finding someone who believes that. Solid second world semi developed nation but not first world fully developed. Not by a long shot. Which is why it's unfair that it's held to the same standard as developed European nations. Edited October 12, 2014 by gtamann123
sivispacem
The US is a first world country. That's pretty inescapable. Which isn't to detract from the fact that attitudes to law and order, civil liberties and society in general are what I would (politely) term "f*cking weird", but "developing" the US ain't. Why is it unfair to hold the US to the same stanards as European nations? In all the measurable and quantifiable ways they are the same. Lowering the bar by pretending they're not first-world strikes me as a "f*cking weird" way of sticking your head in the sand. gtamann123
Australia and New Zealand, Western Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, South Korea, Canada are developed nations. USA lags behind all these countries in virtually every conceivable metric. Calling it developed would require stretching the definition of developed nation so far it would be ridiculous. If the US is consideres developed just because it has the kargest economy then Russia, China, India, And Brazil are developed as well. sivispacem
No, it really wouldn't. So, what metrics traditionally seen as part of defining "development" does the US lag behind the examples you've given (technically Southern and much of Eastern Europe is also part of the developed world)? Care to provide these metrics, where the US sits on them and where in comparison your "developed" nation examples sit? GDP per capita? Nope, the US is right in the middle of them. Human development index? The US is above almost all of Europe. Gini income inequality index is the only international index I can think of where the US lags significantly below the rest of the West and is in the same class as China, Russia et al. I know the idea of the US being a developed country might be annoying for your arguments but, yeah, the US is developed. I think the confusion comes from the fact you don't really understand what developed countries really are. It has little- nay, nothing really- to do with the social policy aspects that you quite rightly imply that the US lags behind Europe et al in, and is simply a measure of economic development. Or you can, as many do, apply it to HDI, in which case the US is right up there at the top too. gtamann123
I just don't personally view development in nations as the only metric for determining if it's a first world nation. If you use economics only then sure the US is developed. But when you consider that it's the wealthiest nation on earth yet doesn't have universal health care. 25% of the population resorted to crime and got locked up. A large portion of the population can't even locate thir own country on a map. And 50 million people are on food stamps it's hard to call it developed
sivispacem
Well I'm afraid that the concept of "developed nations" isn't really reliant on your personal whims or nuances. You can't make up arbitrary definitions for things just because you don't happen to agree with the weight of expert opinion on a subject. There are a few "official" lists of developed countries- the UN, OECD, IMF and CIA factbook. The US appears in all of them. gtamann123
It just makes no sense to me. We are lightyears behind Europe and Australia yet still considered developed. Yet Russia and China arent. Just because you have a high economic output and have a sh*t load of airplanes and tanks doesn't make you developed imo. Maybe 40 years ago we could have been considered developed. But not today Edited October 12, 2014 by gtamann123

lil weasel
Cannot issue a citation if you do not know who it is being given to. Cannot spend an hour dealing with an uncooperative disruptive person when other crime may be in the wind. Calling 911 to seek help is fine, IF the Police are not identified by their Uniform, and marked vehicles. They (the cops) are 911. In Indiana if persons do not want to wear a seatbelt they should take the Bus. I get the feeling that dash Americans are not to be restricted by the laws, and must be free to act as they want (Because they have been oppressed for over 400 years!) Dash Americans never do anything wrong, axe the MaMa and other relatives, they can all tell you it is so. gtamann123

I have been against the use of Dashed (any type) Americans since an incident where a fellow was called an African-American, and he went into a rage because he was a Jamaican. And, didn't want to be, "Classed wit no God damned trash..."I know of people who have gotten so used to being Politically Correct using dash Americans that when dealing with British Nationals they will still call them African-American. And the fact that western Europe as a whole (aside from maybe spain) has a better economy. Better standard of living. Higher quality of life. A highly educated and intelligent populace. Very healthy populace. Low violence and crime. Lower economic inequality etcThe whole of Western Europe (or most parts of it) doesn't (don't) have a "better economy" than the US. Well, if you use GDP per capita or growth over the last couple of years as a measure to define "better". Standard of living? Most of it yeah but not all of it. Higher quality of life? Arguable as there are so many metrics for measuring it but many do probably. Highly educated population? At the top end of the scale, naa. Middle, probably par for the course. Bottom, yeah. Health? Generally probably higher in Europe but the US average lifespan is much the same and the US has a huge obesity problem with knock on negative effects for the rest of the health service. Lower violence and crime? Yeah that's true. As is lower income inequality. But little of that has any bearing on how developed a country is and none at all on the actual topic at hand. - Weasel, if you were a newer member you'd probably have been banned for that post.
