Dottie
From CNN News Editor's note: Some viewers may find this video disturbing. We are now hearing from the man and woman who were in the front seat of their car as police smashed through the window and tasered the passenger. The driver was initially pulled over for not wearing her seatbelt. There were two children in the back seat, including one who recorded the incident. Susan Candiotti spoke to the driver and has new information on two of the officers on the scene. This video raises serious legal questions about the actions of both the police and the adults in the car. Anderson took a closer look at what happened with attorney Areva Martin and CNN legal analyst and criminal defense attorney Mark O'Mara. What are your thoughts on this ? Also the video is on the sight in the link above Edited October 11, 2014 by Winning001

Ai®a©ob®a
I hate cops like this... Because of them nobody ever hears any of the good/decent things cops do for others such as the other day a Police Officer pulled over a car because it had a 5 year old girl who wasn't in a car seat so instead of writing her a ticket he had her meet her at walmart and bought the woman a car seat. But that was quickly wiped from the news for news on something else a bad cop did and it gives people such a bad perspective on the Police because they never hear of the good. There are decent awesome police officers out there who never make the news for helping their community with fund raisers or anything else unless they did something bad it won't be reported

Isn't it pretty bad when it's news that a police officer actually did something good?

D- Ice
The tasered man and female driver make a very good point. The ridiculous excuses that US police officers involved in such incidents seem to go for, where the smallest things are taken as a threat to life, can far more easily be used against them. If the officers seem to justify labelling a man reaching into his bag to get ID as a threat to their lives, then surely white police officers pointing guns at a black man for simply not having ID is an even bigger threat to his life, given the recent spate of controversial police shootings. So the very same logic used to excuse the police's actions justifies the actions of the driver and passenger. Raavi
It's a sad reflection of today's reality that my first reaction was "at least he did't shoot and kill the guy". This sad excuse for a policeman shoot be fired and prosecuted. It was clear no one in that car was a threat to him or his buddy, not by a long shot, the individual in the passenger's seat was even on the line with 911 for f*ck sake. He had no right whatsoever to smash the window, let alone taze the guy. Disgusting. lil weasel
Indiana: All passengers in vehicles that have seatbelts must use them while in forward motion. If the system is the same in Connecticut, then if the perpetrator cannot identify him/her self to the satisfaction of the officer, then an arrest is made by taking said person(s) into custody. If the perpetrator does not comply force necessary to complete the arrest is necessary. The choice is simple, id and sign the infraction OR be taken to the precinct house and be identified there. In this case the guy was refusing to comply to a lawful order, ergo necessary force to remove him from the car was necessary. What is needed is to get rid of these nuance laws. Let the penalty for not wearing a seat belt be that the insurance company does not have to pay, and if others are invoked then any expense for injury would be the problem of the person refusing to use the device. GTA_stu
Jesus christ he only got f*cking tazed, because he was refusing to comply with the police officers. How else were they supposed to get him out of there? They got pulled over and were being deliberately obstructive, refusing to get out of the car and calling 911. It's not like they were pulled over for nothing at all, they committed an offence, no matter how minor. This is just getting ridiculous with all the hysteria surrounding the perception of the police. He used non lethal means and did his damn job. People are just looking for any excuse to have a go at the police.
gtamann123
I agree with Stu that the hysteria is getting out of hand. A cop pulls you over for a seat belt violation and you call 911 and become uncooperative? Why not just comply and identify yourself and take your ticket and pay it like any normal human being would have in that situation? gtamann123
If the person who got tazed had been cooperative he wouldn't have been tazed. Part of the privilege of using a motor vehicle for transportation is following the laws of the road and cooperating with police when you break a law of the road. The people in the car broke a law of the road and then went out of their way to be uncooperative and suffered the consequences. If he had stepped out of the vehicle and explained the situation nothing would have happened. This case is pretty cut and dry and not even news worthy. The only reason it's news is because of the recent events and the news outlets want to cash in Edited October 12, 2014 by gtamann123
make total destroy
From what I understand, unless you're operating said motor vehicle, you have no obligation to identify yourself to a police officer. Even if you did, I don't see how that would justify the use of force, especially for something as simple as not wearing your seatbelt. But cops will be cops. Raavi
Jesus christ he only got f*cking tazed Yeah he only got 50.000 volts running through his body, he should be glad he wasn't shot! How else were they supposed to get him out of there? I don't know, maybe do their jobs and try to deescalate instead of escalate the situation? Had this been a 2 hour standoff and he still refused to step out of the car, yes then I could appreciate the argument of this being justified. However it all happened in a matter of minutes and they didn't even attempt anything other than commanding him to get out of the car. Grade A police work. They got pulled over and were being deliberately obstructive, refusing to get out of the car and calling 911. I How is calling 911 when you fear your life is in danger obstructive? Isn't that what 911 is for? I can hardly blame them with the recent myriad cases of questionable police behaviour against their racial demographic. It's not like they were pulled over for nothing at all, they committed an offence, no matter how minor. All right. Give them a ticket for not wearing seat belts and be done with it.
