Question for the rare item seekers...

Is this The Guy?

Because

I want it all

I want it all

I want it all

and I want it now

Nah but if I have to buy it then i'll think twice about getting it, if it's a specialty item that I get from just playing then I don't see why not, i'm already playing anyway.

Crates Of Gold

What is your reason for seeking rare in-game items? To show off? To say you have them? Unless it is something you use all the time I do not see the point.

To me spending time seeking objects one will not utilize is the opposite of efficiency.

Almost everything in online gaming revolves around showing off.

Not for me. I focus on kill streaks.

You will never get to run around in your birthday suit and a overcoat "showing it off" at strangers online :(

i seek rare things because i like to collect stuff.

its the only reason why i bought the roosevelt, the independence vehicles and the only reason why i make sure to play any event that yield some time limited stuff.

Sold my Roosevelt and sovereign. Have not seen anyone in either in 6 months.

the sovereign came out 3 months ago...and I have a Roosevelt but whenever I take it out of my garage people feel the need to destroy it on sight...

Seriously?? Are you driving at people like a madman?

Every time I bust mine out I usually get it filled up and then go on a tear of mayhem and destruction.

I find it challenging to try and keep my side hanging passengers safe from other players and ramming police cars.

To the OP Im an mmo gamer as some others have also stated they are as well.

Rare hunting/camping/farming comes much more natural to us as we are accustomed to waiting patiently for hours sometimes a day or 2 at one item or even at a chance for one item.

So a couple hours waiting for a crate is nothing compared to our previous endeavours. I didnt go for the shirt because of time issues irl and I mostly never wear ts anyhow.

But its fun to hunt for stuff like this, its more fun hunting and sometimes meeting new people etc. than the actual satisfaction of obtaining the rare item itself.

I have every other item (well I'm still working towards swift and mil jet and I might be missing some valentine fedoras) so I want them for completions sake more than anything

The free rare stuff is fun and exciting to try and get in a full free roam session. There's no way I'd wait for a special crate drop in invite only. If they even happen. It's not really about having the item per se it's more about earning it for me.

So what if you're the inverse and don't want to be the person that missed out on the Roosevelt or the Fist shirt?

I'm still having a fit that I didn't get to buy the Cargobob when it was possible, I don't have CE or SE, etc.

I want GTAO: The Complete Set. Eventually, I'll even buy all of the Pegasus vehicles.

@Ugotsmoked: Why do you care about kill streaks and killing? Aren't you saying: Look at me, I'm a killer!

Everybody wants to be noticed and most of what we do is to attract a mate.

I don't need to attract a mate. I am already married. I work on kill streaks because I enjoy it and to put the room on notice.

So are you saying it's okay to get attention for being an alpha hunter, but not okay to get attention for collection of rare items?

You don't really seem to leave any room for the possibility that other people value different things and at varying degrees.

In GTAO I value RP and Money over everything else now; it used to be mastering every mission, but that seems to be ruined for the time being.

Killing other players, for me, is like a 5 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest). I have a few killers like you on my friend list and I admire their skill, but it pains me to hear them say stuff like "I gotta go rob a store to refill my combat MG" or "Invite me to a mission so I can get my car out of MMI." However, I'll never put them down, because they bought their copy of GTAV and it's their right to enjoy it according to their own values and desires.

I enjoy the challenge of getting the rare item..unless it starts getting impossible to obtain so I stop trying. For something like the beer hats or fist t-shirt, it's something that I can show off. Doesn't matter if people don't mind it, but I feel good about being able to accomplish something and getting a rare reward from it. Still wearing my Pisswaser beer hat and also using the fist t-shirt (pretty bad design for a rare item, but a rare is a rare)

Drop crates are so buggy I don't care anymore. Limited time items which you just buy in the shops I do collect. Just for the sake they exist. But I wear them just once.

Back in the billionaire days you could glitch the collectors edition cars. I could drive around with the Hotknife. You do not believe how many friends request I got. Because the hotknife was made of 100% unobtanium.

Whut? ^^

You said its something you can show off. Mature gamers dont care and in a public session no one lets anyone get near them.

First off, I'd like to point out that your question sounded pretty stupid.

"Who lets you show things off?" Uhhhhm, I'm playing a video game that allows me to dress up my character in any way I want. I let myself show things off.

Second, you fail to read the sentence after that where I said that I didn't care if others don't really care about what I'm showing off because I feel happy just seeing that I was able to get that limited edition clothing item that I'm wearing.

Third, I don't know what you're doing throwing "mature gamers don't care" into the conversation. Going back to my second point, I don't care if they don't care. As long as I'm happy with earning limited edition items and showing what I've earned, then it doesn't matter if "mature gamers" don't care. I've already met people who would say stuff like "Your car looks so nice with that paintjob." or "That shirt looks so nice. How'd you get it." (The players who made those comments sounded like they were around the late 20s to 30s, so that puts them in the "mature gamers" bracket.)... So please explain why you're throwing "mature gamers" in...

I have never met anyone mature who cares what someone else's car looks like.

@cenman it's only human nature for some.

Then that means that you haven't met a lot of people yet cause I've met dozens.

Technically it's human nature to stand out to get attention.

People just do it in different ways. It varies from collecting rare items in a videogame to show off to other players, to starting a thread on GTAF or killing people on site. Everyone wants to be noticed.
