Question for the rare item seekers...

There are no rare items, anyone can get anything they want, it's just that some people have lives and can't play like a freak all day

I guess it's a habit I never dropped from my time playing MMOs.

I have every single exclusive item in GTA Online, and I don't plan to stop any time soon.

Right. But is it just to say you have them all?

i seek rare things because i like to collect stuff.

its the only reason why i bought the roosevelt, the independence vehicles and the only reason why i make sure to play any event that yield some time limited stuff.

Sold my Roosevelt and sovereign. Have not seen anyone in either in 6 months.

the sovereign came out 3 months ago...and I have a Roosevelt but whenever I take it out of my garage people feel the need to destroy it on sight...

I guess so, yeah. I'm definitely the type of person to want to collect things, regardless of how 'useless' those things happen to be.

What is your reason for seeking rare in-game items? To show off? To say you have them? Unless it is something you use all the time I do not see the point.

To me spending time seeking objects one will not utilize is the opposite of efficiency.

What's the point of efficiency in freeroam?

What the point of killing anything that moves in freeroam?

What's the point of shopping in freeroam

Do what the hell you like in freeroam

because of the same reason gun collectors have antique guns that they never use, or any collector for that matter

In real life it's normally to turn a profit.

Only that the gun will still exist in 5 years, virtual items in a limited-life-span game are pointless to collect

I got the mask. I wish it was much brighter yellow.

What is your reason for seeking rare in-game items? To show off?

I used to collect rare cars and make them look sexy, until the last 4 kids who buzzed my garage all said "Why do you have nothing but crappy cars?"

I was like "There's at least 2 million put into all of these cars. What are you talking about, kid?"

What they meant was "Where are your super cars?"

If I put effort into those cars to show off, it certainly isn't working on the 9-14 year old demographic.

I never let anyone in my garage because I don't give a f*ck what they think.

I've never invited anyone into my garage. These are kids who followed me across the map and begged me to let them into my garages.

I don't collect the way others do, but I love finding things you can't buy. When i found my bagger, I was super excited. It's not even that rare or anything, but it's just the thrill from finding it after looking for a while.

With me, I take pride in all items that I collect. This applies to both real life and in GTA Online, respectively.

In real life, when you own a rare item, you become proud in yourself for owning said item, such as if it was discontinued, a select number were manufactured, etc... It's something that not too many people own; it's unique.

In GTA Online, it's pretty much the same thing. It's something that yes, a lot of people own, but it's mostly limited edition and only is available for weekends, maybe even a month before you're no longer able to aquire one.

For me, it holds sentimental value. For example, when the independence day special was released, I searched day in and day out for a beer hat. Every lobby I went into, it dropped, the entire lobby was there, etc. I was basically mad because I thought I wasn't able to get one.

That is, until I found a solution. I saw a thread on this very forum by gagemb9918, that explained that you have to go into free aim. So I did. Still, there was plenty of people in all of the lobbies I went into, until one particular moment when the entire lobby emptied out, probably due to lag. Eventually, I saw the notification which gives everyone a near-certain overflow of excitement:

SPECIAL CRATE DROP IN 10 HOURS.

I was in my buzzard at the time, listening to Jai Paul's "Jasmine" at nighttime. It was one of the most epic, and beautiful moments that's happened to me in GTA Online. I waited for it to drop, and finally got my beer hat near Mount Chiliad.

Then, earlier today, I went looking for special crates to get the Victory Fist T Shirt. One dropped, but there were 2 jets that kept killing me in my buzzard. Needless to say, I wasn't very confident after a few minutes. I rushed to the crate, until I noticed the entire lobby was over there, and those 2 jets were providing as a distraction and bodyguard for this one person to grab the crate.

Next lobby, I get the notification, almost get blown up by a buzzard, I deal with him, wait 30 minutes, still no crate.

Then, fast-forward 10 minutes or so. I join a lobby with a few close friends of mine, and I leave the room for a few minutes. I come back, and the familiar overflow of excitement comes again:

A SPECIAL CRATE HAS BEEN DROPPED.

I rushed over to the crate, which was at the construction site in the Grand Senora Desert, collected the crate near death, my friend picked me up, took me to the nearest clothing store and I put the shirt on, in conjunction with my mask. I was never so happy in my GTA Online career since the beer hat.

So, that's why I seek rare items in GTA Online.

I was disappointed with the color yellow too, it looks just like one of the other hockey masks but with the "please stop me" on it

I like getting rare or unique things in games.

I have four different save in Fallout New Vegas just for the Courier Dusters alone.

There's a whole host of valid reasons:

1. So that all your options are on the table in case your tastes change later.

2. To show that you are a persistent and loyal player (I have two Roosevelts which signals to others I've been around at least since February)

3. It's fun to collect things and digital bits cost no money

4. New experiences of playing in certain events, weekend playlists, going after crates, etc. Each item has a memory attached to it.

5. Sometimes it's just fun to troll/show off to newbies. I drove my Roosevelt up to two guys with mics and when I honked that "AWOOOOOGAH" horn they busted out laughing like "wtf is that and how did you get that old ass ride. I've never even seen that"

etc.

nice the less people with them the best hahaha

last week took my roosevelt out for a spin and some low level kid voted to kick me because...

To say you have it/done it

Just part of the gaming experience for some to have everything available. A sense of achievement.

Collecting rares or what we can still call rares just makes some players feel better when playing the game, maybe they like having something that not a lot of other players use, maybe there's something about it that they can't resist.

All of the above apply to me when it comes to the Phoenix. I love the roar of the engine, the look of it, whether you want to keep it looking stock or make it unique in your own way it's almost impossible to make this car look bad (with the exception of GiantsGiants of course) and although it might not be the rarest in terms of searching I don't see a lot of them at car meets so to me they're a rare sight.
