Are we going to have to start paying for updates?

I wouldn't pay anything for any of the updates we gotten so far, besides as people are saying; They're required to play Online, they cannot charge for those.

What? So now all those collectors-edition weapons that are in the game are now unlocked for me? Sweet! :rol:

Look at Call of Battle or Dutyfield, all of those games have had DLCs (guns, clothes, etc.) that everyone who played the game "had" - but only those who paid for them could use them. There's nothing stopping R* from adding the Hydra/gimp_suit/Karin_Snipe to the game and having them present in public lobbies, but only able to be called_in/equiped by those who bought the DLC. It's what happened for RDR.

Anyone wonder if we're going to have to pay for updates soon? Free updates can't go on forever and I suspect it will get to a point where it will make more sense for R* to charge people for content updates rather than hand them out in patches. I think this is fair enough GTA Online has gotten more free content than any other game I can recall off the top of my head.

How would you guys feel if rockstar started charging a couple of dollars each for updates the kind of size we've seen before such as the business update? How many more free updates do you think we'll get?

Edit: Thanks for the title edit ~Tiger~, my bad.

It ALL depends on how well Shark Cards are selling.

R* will continue with the free updates as long as they are making a lot of money with the Shark Cards..... if the Shark Cards sales go down, then R* will charge money for any new content.

It's as simple as that, and anyone would have to be an idiot to not already realize what I wrote above. No offense to the OP

Rockstar will continue with free updates until they abandon Xbox360 and PS3. Then they will continue with Free updates on Xbox One and PS4 until they are no longer a company.

DLC will be paid eventually. Those who don't want to buy it will most likely have to download a compatibility patch, much like every other multiplayer game that's released in the last 6 years. You don't want to pay for Heists, you don't have to, but you can't play the elaborate ones. Don't want to buy the new map locations that will be added in when the next GTA is released, you don't have to. But you'll be stuck in Los Santos while everyone else goes to Vice City/Liberty City/Whatever they decide to release.

The problem with the community is that most people don't realize that updates and DLC are different. We've been receiving free DLC over the last year, that might end, but the updates will still be free.

Free updates can go on forever and they will. What R* have already done is price plenty of the items in game so that the impatient will spend money on cash cards.

Single player DLC will obviously be charged like always, online I'm pretty sure (in my own view) that it'll stay predominantly free. Possibly the only change would be that they start charging for the option to unlock limited time DLC that had expired i.e the Roosevelt and also heists - or rather the option to have more in depth ones.

I can't see the novelty updates of the last year being anything other than free.

Paying for updates will not work on the current model. They would have to ditch the in game currency for it to work.

I don't think customers would be very happy paying real life cash for content. Then having to buy a cash card or grind for days to buy mods for the item/s you have bought.

Microtransactions for specific GTA content? F*ck off.

Yeah f*ck off with microtransactions for items and monthly subsciptions. What are these f*cktards ITT thinking?! We already have a system that gives us FREE updates that is payed for by optional cash cards. This community is so f*cking stupid.

Idk man a monthly sub would weed out all the uncommiteds. Including glitchers and modders.

You think trolls will pay a monthly sub just to troll?? No, maybe for one month but then theyll drop off and go troll on some other free game. Glitching money exploits will never go away but it would help.

The population would significantly drop but the community would be better off in the long run.
