Agreed. Probably won't ever buy a cash card, but any DLC with content that really interests me would be worth paying for. I'd be pissed to have bought this one, but pretty happy with the Hipster update.

Just think about it:

Everyone has to have the same game version in order to be able to play online. They cannot force you to buy the newest patch (The DLCs are just a little extra)

 

The only possibility for paid DLC is something like the GTA IV ones, like whole new games. Then again, the online versions would have to get patched aswell, so that would be even more effort they have to put into the game(s).

 

I don't think we will get DLC like we did for GTA IV simply becasue the online mode would require so much more work.... a story DLC would be awesome, though... Maybe a story-mode-only-DLC?

Didn't think about that... I would still pay for a story-mode DLC, I bought Gay Tony and the Lost.

I wouldn't pay anything for any of the updates we gotten so far, besides as people are saying; They're required to play Online, they cannot charge for those.

But I would pay for a proper DLC, like TLAD & TBOGT - but that would most likely be storymode focused, maybe you would get an exclusive car for Online.

And can people please stop with the whole "last gen isn't getting any new updates after current gen release", last gen will continue to get updates for a long time because it has a MUCH larger player base than current gen.

All updates will be free forever. You need them to play the game so they cannot charge for them. All story DLC will be what they charge us for.

Updates don't necessarily need to be free to gain all the content. You can have a free update while paying for the content within - look at the CE/SE packs.

GTA5 has gave me more free content than any game i have played in the past,

 

I have paid on other games anywhere from 99cents to $5.99 for simple add ons like cars and weapons for online play and high as $19 dollars for add on map packs for Call of Duty titles

 

I thank Rockstar for the content that has been added to GTA that i have not purchased or dont care for myself, because it has been free, the only thing it cost me was a few minutes or seconds downloading the updated file

Wouldn't there be a way in where all the paid DLC content could be added through an "update" where all the new items are "unlocked", as in all the graphics rendering is available to everyone but items are locked to unpaid players, much like the special edition vehicles. You could still be lobbied with paid players but not have access to paid content, only be able to see it.

It is free content, whether you like it or not. Yes, you have to pay for the weapons and vehicles in Online, but not just they aren't all that expensive (Hell, it's been easier than ever to get money in GTAO lately) but it's also free in singleplayer. And frankly, how many people in here have rushed to buy shark cards just because of an update? I am pretty sure I don't speak solely for myself when I say I never did so. For the record, I also think shark cards are a stupid and greedy thing, but jeez, that doesn't change the fact that update content is added for free to the game.

 

OT: My guess is, probably not. Their practice of including stuff in updates is becoming pretty reputable, they know players always return to the game every time they add free crap, and they also know the community would be pissed if they changed that all of a sudden. I do hope for a big paid DLC though, maybe with a new storyline and location (i.e., something like the infamous North Yankton hoax).

We both camp for rares now (sp crates).

 

Limited time items like the Roosey are an mmo thing.

 

We have an online forum community. Very mmoish of us.

 

We sink absurd amounts of time into this game. Quitting jobs, breaking up with loved ones.. again this only happens with mmo games.

 

The list goes on.

 

We are playing an mmo that is simply extremely instanced like all the other modern mmos.

Anyone wonder if we're going to have to pay for updates soon? Free updates can't go on forever and I suspect it will get to a point where it will make more sense for R* to charge people for content updates rather than hand them out in patches. I think this is fair enough GTA Online has gotten more free content than any other game I can recall off the top of my head.

 

How would you guys feel if rockstar started charging a couple of dollars each for updates the kind of size we've seen before such as the business update? How many more free updates do you think we'll get?

In MP3 there were free compatibility packs that everyone had to d/l in order to play online because there was paid DLC. So, in GTA there may be a paid Military DLC that included chrome turbo tanks and WMDs and everybody else would d/l the free DLC to be able to see the WMD go off and the chrome tank drive by.

The people who complain about the updates and also curse cash cards will be complaining the loudest if people stop buying them and Rockstar charges everyone for the updates instead. Cash cards pay for DLC development. It's just the way it is.

That's why the cut content is free. The updates will always be free and mandatory. Paid dlc will be worth paying for because of the quality it will provide. There are reasons to why some things are free and other aren't and it almost always boils down to quality. Some people are so f*cking stupid.

 

I'd gladly pay for a monthly subscription or quality dlc. Provided it was worth it. I don't have any problems with the money I earn so these miniscule issues are nothing to me. Just got another 7% raise effective Dec 1st =D
