Are we going to have to start paying for updates?

Anyone wonder if we're going to have to pay for updates soon? Free updates can't go on forever and I suspect it will get to a point where it will make more sense for R* to charge people for content updates rather than hand them out in patches. I think this is fair enough GTA Online has gotten more free content than any other game I can recall off the top of my head.

 

How would you guys feel if rockstar started charging a couple of dollars each for updates the kind of size we've seen before such as the business update? How many more free updates do you think we'll get?

All updates will be free forever. You need them to play the game so they cannot charge for them. All story DLC will be what they charge us for.

If the DLC was something like the EFLC for GTA IV, I wouldn't have an issue at all paying for that kind of content because I enjoyed both TLAD and TBOGT very much.

If they do start charging then I hope it is just for the new vehicles/weapons/clothes etc as even I the cost is low, these updates are required to play the game. We don't get a choice in downloading them, and to lose the use of the game because you don't want to/can't pay or a update seems stupid

I wouldn't mind paying for a substantial DLC (map expansions, new storylines ala GTA IV, etc.).

As for how many updates that are left, I estimate we'll see one more update before the PS4/One versions come out.

Eh. Touchy topic. I mean the DLC we've got so far, we'd probably have had to pay $10 for it each time, but besides the cars and guns we don't necessarily really use it. It'd have to include missions in all honesty for me to be justified by it, and probably 2x the guns and cars normally released. And the missions we pay for.. they'd have to pay more than the normal mission.

 

Tbh the free updates have made me more greedy. Can't win either way poor R*.

All the DLC has been free but they're so light they don't even compare to paid DLC in other games in content.

Technically, we haven't received any DLC yet... as you see, Rockstar has named every update the "So and So Update".

 

Conclusion: Updates no. DLC maybe.

Well so far we've been getting updates, not DLC. These are mandatory updates because they include patches and other tweaks.

If they release TBOGT/TLAD type of DLC for GTAV, my pockets are open!

I don't know about updates but it's getting frustrating with all the patches and things that work one day then are gone the next:

like when we used to have turbo tanks with blue smoke. then patches came out and they were gone.

or pink tanks, NOS and rapidfire. I remember when I could basically keep up with an unmodded Adder most of the time in city streets.

People saying they can't charge dlc because updates are required to play online, have no idea what they're talking about.

 

There are plenty of games out there that have dlc, and allow the people who don't want to buy it to download a compatibility update to keep playing, who's to say Rockstar won't do that?

Just think about it:

Everyone has to have the same game version in order to be able to play online. They cannot force you to buy the newest patch (The DLCs are just a little extra)

 

The only possibility for paid DLC is something like the GTA IV ones, like whole new games. Then again, the online versions would have to get patched aswell, so that would be even more effort they have to put into the game(s).

 

I don't think we will get DLC like we did for GTA IV simply becasue the online mode would require so much more work.... a story DLC would be awesome, though... Maybe a story-mode-only-DLC?
