nkjellman
I have some concerns regarding transferring my GTA Online Characters based on the fact that on last gen, progress doesn't transfer between PS3 and Xbox 360. So let me explain my character ranks as of 10-7-2014. I have two characters on Xbox 360. Slot A: A female character. I don't use her very much, but she is rank 69. I made sure that she has everything you can obtain in the game. Including seasonal content. Slot B: A male character. I use him mainly, and he is rank 137. I made sure that he has everything you can obtain in the game. Including seasonal content. I also have one character on PS3. Slot A: A male character. I don't play on PS3 very much. I think he is only like a rank 4 or a rank 5. I made him a month ago, so he is missing all the seasonal content. Slot B: Empty So here is my game plan. On November 18th, I am going to buy GTA V on PS4. On January 27th, I am going to buy GTA V on PC. Now here is the part when I'm concerned. 1. When I transfer my character to PS4, will I be able to pick my Slot B Xbox 360 character or can I only transfer my Play Station characters? 2. When transferring characters, how do the transfers work? Can I only transfer one of them? Does it automatically transfer both of them? Can I transfer one from PS3, the other from Xbox 360? 3. Say I transfer my Slot B Xbox 360 character to PS4. Will my progress made on PS4 transfer over to Xbox 360? Will I still be able to play as him on Xbox 360? 4. Now this is my biggest main concern. Say I transfer my Slot B character to PS4. Will the progress I make on PS4 be transferable to PC? If I can only transfer from last gen, will I be able to transfer him from Xbox 360 a second time? Long story short is, I want to have my Slot B character from Xbox 360 on my main gaming platform. However, in the time period of November 18th, 2014, and January 26th, 2015, the PS4 will be my main platform for playing GTA V. January 27th, 2015, and beyond, PC will be my main platform for playing GTA V. During these time periods, I do plan on going back to Xbox 360 and playing with my friends who have a Xbox 360. But I don't know if that will happen as they aren't playing as much anymore. Regardless, I want my Slot B Xbox 360 character to end up on PC. I would like to be able to use him on PS4 after it is out on PS4, and before it is out on PC, but I won't transfer him to PS4 if it will prevent me from transferring him to PC. There are multiple scenarios that could prevent me from transferring him to PC if I transfer him to PS4. 1. Only one character transfer per social club account. 2. A character can only be transferred once. So even if you can transfer PS4 and Xbox One characters to PC, I won't be able to transfer him to PC because he has already been transferred once. 3. You can only transfer Xbox 360 and PS3 characters to PC. After you transfer to PS4, Xbox One, or PC, you can't use that character on last gen. This would make it so I no longer have him on last gen to transfer, and I wouldn't be able to transfer him to PS4. The scenario that I'm hoping for is that I can transfer my Slot B Xbox 360 character to PS4, then be able to transfer him to PC. Whether its from Xbox 360, or PS4 doesn't matter to me as all I'll loose is RP. I won't loose unlocks, and money doesn't matter to me as I have a lot of it. But if transferring him to PS4 will prevent me from transferring him to PC, I won't be transferring him to PS4. I am going to wait it out for a while after the game comes out and just play Single Player for the time being. I'll most likely transfer him to PS4 if I find out that other people were able to transfer their character to both Xbox One and PS4. That will probably answer my main concern. So what do you guys think about this? Will we be able to transfer characters to multiple platforms, and still be able to use them on last gen? K.Walters
I`m not sure how this will work. I don`t think anyone but R* knows. But I would suggest you to transfer your character a little while after 18th. And I suggest this because I think that the chance that the servers for this option might be unstable for the first day or two is high, so let all the impatient fools test the stability Also to know exactly how this works so you could then make the decision to transfer or not. I personally will transfer my Xbox360 character A to PC after finishing the story on it once again but with 100% done. My biggest concern is will all my stuff transfer too. I currently have 3 expensive super cars, 3 sports cars, 1 classic sports car and many more and I wouldn`t want to lose them. I know R* said progress will transfer, but does properties, vehicles, guns etc count as progress? Of course if the only thing that transfers is the character, rank and money, then I could just sell everything few days before my gold expires, but I would prefer not to do that. But yeah, some more info about how this works from R* would be great as the 18th is getting closer. Edited October 8, 2014 by WalterS_LV
nkjellman
I am not necessarily worried about not having everything transfer over. I feel like that stuff would transfer over, and I personally don't see a reason why it shouldn't. Also, I agree with you on waiting. I feel like there will be issues transferring stuff over. However, I have a feeling that GTA Online on PS4, Xbox One, and PC won't be as buggy as it was back when it first came out on Xbox 360 and Play Station 3. This is for several reasons. -PS4 and Xbox One versions may not have as many sales as last gen. Some people don't care about the benefits of the new consoles. (Though eventually current gen sales could catch up and pass up last gen sales.) -Not as many games on PS4 and Xbox One yet. This is causing many to stick with last gen for now. -We were pretty certain about a PC version, but not as much about PS4 and Xbox One. With that being said, not very many console gamers who were like, I'm going to wait for the better version, where as there are PC gamers who waited. I for one am impatient when it comes to GTA because its my favorite series. Hence why I own the last gen version, am getting the PS4 version, when the real version I want to play is the PC version. I'm sure there are others. As for the PC version. -It isn't as big of a market, but that could be a different story thanks to Steam. (This makes me happy.) -Only one version of Online is coming out, where as unlike last gen and current gen consoles, two versions are coming out at the same time. So less to focus on. But there is also one other concern I forgot to mention. If I make a new character on the new version, can I still transfer my saves? I feel like I should submit this to Rockstar Support. If I don't get an answer, I'll wait till the PS4 version is out. I will ensure my Slot B Xbox 360 character will transfer to PC. But when the PS4 and PC versions come out, I'll be occupied by Single Player for the first few days.

Maybe you`ll get something from R* unless they`ll reply with that "Keep an eye out on newswire" cr**. I personally think that developers should consider sharing video game progresses through all the platforms. So people who will have PS4/XB1 and PC, all 3 platforms will be able to play with the same online character on all of them (not at the same time of course). I think that should be the next big milestone in gaming. Edited October 9, 2014 by WalterS_LV

I think that should be the next big milestone in gaming. I agree with you there. But that may be their plan. You know how there are 5 character slots. and only two are usable? Those may become unlocked. Right now you can have a total of 4 characters linked to your Social Club. Two for Xbox 360, and two for Play Station 3. So by unifying this, when I go on my character switch screen on ether Xbox 360, Play Station 3, Xbox One, Play Station 4, or PC, I will see something like this. Slot A: My Slot A character made on Xbox 360 Slot B: My Slot B character made on Xbox 360 Slot C: My Slot A character made on Play Station 3 Slot D: Empty (unless I deside to make a Slot B character on Play Station 3) Slot E: Empty I am not entirely sure about this, or what Rockstar plans on doing with Slot C, Slot D, and Slot E. They could make you have to buy extra character slots (I hear that some MMORPG's have additional character slots that you can buy. Or they could be there to allow for a unified character selection across all platforms. It would make sense because you can transfer characters to the game version on the competing platform. Rockstar has a plan for those slots otherwise they wouldn't be there. Its not like they got lazy in coding the character selection screen, and those slots are really Michel, Franklin, and Trevor. There is a possible chance that Xbox One, Play Station 4, and PC are going to be unified, and not last gen, but I doubt that because they said "your choice of" in the statement. Inactive in GTA/R* title modification indefinitely pursuant to a court order obtained by TTWO. Good job acting against modding!
