Does anyone else feel like radio should constantly play different song

Not new to the forum. Looks like the search function is just as crappy as it used to be. Anyways, not sure if this topic has been covered but bare with me...

Does any one feel like the online would be less stale and have more replay value/playability if the radio songs were constantly rotated? Maybe not even constantly rotated but even if they added new songs and removed some of the other song temporarily.

I mean, for me, the game has tons on replay value, (probably because I haven't played it in 2 months until today) but still. It seems like it wouldn't be that hard for the programmers to do so. Maybe if they could run the radio Pandora style and push songs thru the radio that would be cool.

Musically inclined gamers chime in.

You know they are adding over 100 songs on the new gen games right?

I just wish the radio station would stay on the one I want every time I get out of my car.

They should give us the ability to play any song we want on the radio.

If not that, then at least include a new batch of songs every update.

Is it just me, or I feel like I'm a part of something bigger when playing the music in game? Just as it would in real life, it's like everyone is sharing a common experience when listening to the same song or talk-radio show. I feel like that experience is lost when you have everyone playing their own music. Or maybe I'm just thinking too hard about this...

Do you know how music licensing works? this would be very costly for R*. Would be nice though

Idk if this is any more plausible, but I'd like it if R* made a deal with spotify where we could just play our playlists from there through the radio.

Well I just got out of class and don't feel like doing any math so I'll just say this...

R* has to pay for rights to every song they would include, which would add up if they were constantly adding and removing songs. This would also require legal overhead because the last thing R* needs is a copyright infringement lawsuit.

To put it short, R* won't do it because it isn't profitable. The only way it would be is if they added it through paid DLC or an optional paid subscription, which would get complicated when the driver pays for the new music but their passenger doesn't.

The TV show Mad Men had to pay $250k to license a Beatles song for one episode, and it wasn't even one of the bigger hits.

The music budget for GTA 5 with around 240 songs would have been into the millions for sure.

I doubt the licensing is as expensive as everyone is saying. Most of the music on the radio has been around a while, and the new stuff is by relative unknowns. Video game music is practically free advertising for them. If you're smart, like Kenny Loggins, you'll give them a deal on the tunes and introduce your music to a whole new generation. I bet he's sold a few records since the game came out.

Here's a good link to a story about how they got the music for GTA IV. Artists actually look forward to getting their songs on the radio.

Good point. I only started listening to Flock of Seagulls after playing Vice City.

Music licences can cost a fortune, even if the song has been around for a while. Every time a song is played on a radio station , it has to be paid for, for R* to put the song in game they have to negotiate a fee with the label.

New songs in gta online would be nice or they could add real stations to the game like hot 97 but thats less likely.

I just wish we could make a playlist made up of two or more radio stations that would shuffle the songs and make a big list out of the jumbled songs.

Also, R*, If your listening please stop my Phoenix from blasting Radio X everytime I pull out of my garage!, I hate that one song with the chrorus made up of gibberish that always seems to be playing more than the rest.

RL radio stations play the same couple songs over and over again, so imo, it's added touch of realism. I've yet to come across a station that doesnt repeat a few songs throughout the day.

You mean you totally missed giving yourself the Flock of Seagulls hair in the bathtub when you were a kid?

GTA: SA turned me on to Asleep at the Wheel. I bought their whole greatest CD after hearing one song on their game radio.

I forgot what songs GTA 5 even has, since I turned the radio off in "Settings" 9 months ago.

Omg I thought I was a freaking weirdo! No man you aren't thinking too hard about it. I'm the same way in real life too. Like I can't listen to my mp3 player too long in the car or I get a lonely feeling inside.

If you're an up and coming artist like a lot of the acts on Radio Mirror Park and Fly-Lo FM, having your song on a game like GTA V ...or any game tbh, is an epic achievement and the source of a crapload of exposure that you would not turn down.

However, there's a lot of paperwork churn to make it all happen even if the act agrees to give them a song for free. So regardless of the cost of licensing, it costs Rockstar money to make it happen. The more songs they include, the more work they have to do. There would be someone selecting the music, someone negotiating with the artist/agent/manager, someone preparing legal documents, someone chasing this all up and managing it. It would be the full time job of at least 3 people for about 3 months just to get the set of songs we already have in the game - and that's not 3 chimps, that's 3 highly paid professional white collar people on $80-200k a year (AUD).

Rockstar has to draw a line somewhere and I think we can all agree, that what they provided out of the box is great. ("All" minus self entitled gen y)

Yeahhh, licensing would be a major bitch. Striking a deal with Pandora, Last FM, or even Spotify could be a good idea, but wouldn't R* still have to pay the rights of usage for those songs on top of allowing digital streaming of music from said providers?

I'm more for what sports games do with their music systems. All songs are on big playlists, you can switch certain songs on and off to your own tastes, and all of that stuff.

Saints Row, Tony Hawk, Skate, NBA 2K, old school Madden, FIFA(?), and loads of those games had customizable soundtracks. Give us the option here at least because I hate a large number of songs in this game.
