Recreating PS2 atmosphere - I've found logic, coders needed

Also make sure you don't have OpenLA installed(it comes with Project 2dfx) as the increased draw distance makes the sun smaller.

I think it's another p2dfx plugin, OpenLA doesn't increase dd?

Apparently installing the lovely2-mod(-ps2).asi halts any kind of graphical enhancement mod? I tried ENB and it was only able to show it's menu, no effects can be seen.

Yeah sure it's PS2 feeling but i like it combined somehow.

I experienced the problem similar to yours when in-game AA is On. Looks like it "blocks" injectors. Make sure the in-game AA is turned Off. I use SweetFX and it works great.

You can have all that including open limit adjuster as long as you don't install the drawdistancechanger.asi which attaches the draw distance to the Z-axis. The higher you go the more draw distance you get. Just remove that and get the tcyc values into the seabed.ipl. Should work flawless.

Tried with ingame AA disabled, no luck. Although turning on AA doesn't seem to lag even when there's smoke.

I just couldn't remember which one of them did it so I took the better safe than sorry path :D

It's actually draw distance changer. Probably needed to make sun size constant though.

That's true. A few weeks I removed draw distance changer and the sun became bigger.

Can this be fixed? Having a bigger sun while draw distance changer is installed?

I'm pretty sure there is some variable responsible for the sun size in game memory that can be changed independently from the draw distance.

I made a new version of the mod (only the -ps2 version):

http://aap.papnet.eu/gta/sa_fx/lovely3-mod-ps2.asi

This removes the blurriness and adds another hotkey: while holding F8 the game renders the PC post fx (F7 disables post fx just as before).

How did you fix bluriness? Is there something like buffer quality/size?

errorcun: I changed the texture coordinates (only a part of the texture has the frame on it and the coordinates were off by one pixel I think) and set the filtering to nearest.

I guess that's possible, I don't know when AA is done, but it seems the mod overrides it. Ask NTAuthority about it.

I just use the game's front buffer for rendering similar to original post effects, this shouldn't disable antialiasing as the buffer was already antialiased when the initial contents were drawn.

For me with lovely3 in-game AA works (set to 3) and HUGE lag that I experienced before is GONE now without any Multisampling fix (lag happens only when there are lot of smoke on screen). However in-game AA is still blocking my SweetFX which I use to add some contrast that this mod lacks unfotunately.

I'm asking too much for a -pc timecyc version?

So can we get an official topic for this in the showroom? From the looks of it, this was a community effort so it'll be a community mod, I guess @The Hero can make the topic if he wants, but give credit to the people who helped of course. :p

There is some guy was talking about motion blur on PS2 that kinda always ON even while not moving.

Yeah I'm not sure about that one myself. I'm playing PS2 version on my PS3 and I don't see it yet I recall someone said it is. I dunno :p

The motion blur advanced mod is stronger than the PS2 blur, that's correct. But still nobody can deny that on the PS2 motion blur is always enabled independent from the speed:

juUyiwu.jpg?1

You can see it best while looking at palms and lamp posts. There's a doubler effect always enabled. It was done to hide graphical issues on the PS2, I guess. However, Motion Blur Advanced does add features to it that were not on the PS2. But these are actually good features. You get speed blur in planes and that sort of stuff. It's really realistic because I don't think I could ever see everything clearly at 200mph....

This can be simulated with Motin Blur Advanced mod BUT MBA has strong impact on lovely3 and older, decreasing postprocessing.

So maybe it is possible to implement PS2 blur into lovely3 ? Then there wouldn't be any necessity to chose between Lovely3 and Motion Blur Advanced.

I will make a thread soon. I just want to fiddle a bit with my PS2 reflections, then I'll make a thread for both. (And don't worry about me not giving credit, I will)

Thank you for removing that blur, I can finally play SA at glorious 1080p with this even more glorious mod!

Now we only need a way to fix those ugly sky gradients and the alpha bug fix from the mobile versions, hopefully that will happen soon. I still can't believe it, exactly 10 years after the game released we got the best mods ever made for this game, this year was just pure awesomeness seriously thanks to the modding community :D.

So is the speeding blur bug fixed? Can you drive fast without losing the effect?

No, unfortunately. Speed blur (or Warp setting if you use Motion Blur Advanced) must be turned off. Or else you will lose effect

Well that's a shame. It was the reason why I got rid of it as SA looks stupid without the speed blur.

Yes looks very cool. But all this modded Sun effects and lens flares still have a bug when sun is visible during storm and foggy weather, right?

Just a small question. Is it possible for a new version, when pressing F8, the game will toggle the PC post fx and PC timecyc and when pressing F7, the game will render PS2 post fx?

This would be much easier toggling between those without replacing or moving away the file/folder.
