Recreating PS2 atmosphere - I've found logic, coders needed

Emmm, no problem, but files for this mod are around this topic. Looks like this guy gathered them in one place

All files posted here: http://a.pomf.se/ngexii.7z

Includes the modified timecyc and timecycp

If any problems - I will upload mod files which I use.

And this is my very simple CONTRAST preset for SweetFx

Just want to add some shots made with this AWESOME mod. I am not specialist but as for me even with this mod the game lacks some contrast. I spent hours comparing modded (with this mod) PC ver and PS2 gameplay videos. However the PS2 version seems to be more... emm... juicy. When I look on PS2 ver I see that there is very sunny and hot atmosphere there and even now with this mod something is wrong with PC ver. As for me the mod lacks one simple thing - contrast. I used SweetFX to add some contrast ONLY in order to make the games image closer to PS2. The ingame brightness is default. The result is below. Now the only thing I notice is that PS2 sun is more kinda SHINY. But that really doesn't matter at all :)

You refer to this?

Hard to say, but looks great at your screenshot (but this may be just another time of day). Here you can see EXACTLY what I meen

Watch from 0:41

The sun itself looks kinda bit darker on my shots.
But did YOU use some... additional mod or tweak ?

Nope, probably you forgot the seabed.ipl and down all draw distance in the game settings to get the PS2 draw distance.

Less draw distance, more sun haze.

Well someone posted "PS2 stuff" files here with timecyc's and seabed and I used them because I dont have PS2 version. As far as I know PS2 seabed's sun is bigger than PC's. And it IS bigger with seabed I use so I think I did everything right.
I could not find the value of PS2 draw dist so I use 450 (I saw this value in this topic somewhere)

UPD: I am soooooo stupid! The PS2 timecyc ALREADY has original draw distance! Loool ! I made it 450 and forgot that thi is custom value. You are comletely right ! Now we can see the difference below.

DD 450

Anyway thank you for showing me my mistake :)

Damn! Your sun is so bright ! Its awesome! Mine is not even close to yours :( Now I really dont understand... I use "Things to do in San Andreas" and couple other minor mods and may be that is the reason.
Well I guess it is my turn to ask to upload the mod :)

Pleeeease, could you upload all YOUR mod files you use to achieve that great illumination ? :)

Now I supposed looks like on my game:

Please, I need it! I'm dying for it! Dat looks awesome!

Well, is strange the case of both because I don't use anything additional or special, everything is here. :p

Link: https://www.sendspace.com/file/dzaygd (Copy the folder to modloader and thats all).

Remember down all draw distance (less draw distance, more sun haze), the weather and hour affect the sun haze too.

On the intro, the game starts at 06:31am and with LS smog weather that affects the sun haze.

EDIT:

Other nice addon to get more closer PS2 experience.

So, inadequate, I tried your files with clean game and... no change. BUT I have finally found the reason of my problem. That was... 6:00. There was no time at your first shot and I did not noticed what time was on the second. As soon as I set the 6:00 in-game I got BAM !!!

q7Rcr6U.png

Well now you can surely compare your sun with mine at 06:41 :)

Thank you for your files, now I know I did everything right.

However I would recommend slightly increase the draw distance (to 450). It barely affects the sun but adds some atmosphere, when huge buildings do not pop up in front of you :)

P.S. I have used your grass since I found this topic. I love it, the ground was not bald anymore :)

Try to put THIS file into the game folder together with preset I uploaded earlier.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/va9cuw

In San andreas folder you should have 1) SweetFX itself, 2) my previous preset file, 3) the file from this massage (if such a file is allready exist in your folder - replace it with mine).

I know about COLORMOD, but it is bugged and I personally hate it. ALL previous PS2 Atmosphere mods were based on Colormod and had the same annoying bug.

What for? A debug PS2 isn't too interestig, now a TOOL PS2, that would be awesome.

mirh: That looks pretty cool, sadly it doesn't have a VU1 debugger. I modified pcsx2 to dump the VU1 memory when it sees the tampa's hood, disassembled the instruction memory and went through it by hand (partly keeping track of state in a python session). I did find out how the PS2 generates texture coordinates and whatnot (see thread about reflections) but it was kinda painful.

Hello guys ! It is something wrong with in-game anti-aliasing. It seems to cause huge lag. Then I used "Multisampling FIX" the lag was gone. BUT it looks like in-game AA causes lag when there is any kind of smoke on screen (it gets much worse during storm) and disables all injectors like SweetFx. I tried to force AA with Nvidia Control Panel but even with 2x it lag very much when smoke on screen. AA injectors do not seem to work at all. So maybe there are some mods or methods to smooth "stairs" in GTA SA not causin lag or breaking something ?

Same here dude, with AA level 1, 2 or 3 lags like hell, I don't know why, no matter what level. But anyway I don't use AA, always deactivated in-game.

NTA/Hero can you make the blurrish effect in the lovely asi as an option? It just makes it low resolution and my PC can't handle AA to cover it up.

Apparently installing the lovely2-mod(-ps2).asi halts any kind of graphical enhancement mod? I tried ENB and it was only able to show it's menu, no effects can be seen.

Yeah sure it's PS2 feeling but i like it combined somehow.

hello guys

before all i can say you are way better than R* because your awesome work

but i have a problem, i have installed EVERYTHING you did, i have played with the files in thousand ways, but the sunhaze is missing and that makes everything looks less warm and boring.

Considering i am just a rookie because the only thing i have done is copying files, can you show me what files you have in your SA root folder? maybe i miss something

and if you made a modification manually, what file did you edited to make gta look like THIS?

The seabed.ipl from the PS2 version will give you a bigger sun and Silent's patch for SA will make it render correctly (without ztest).

Also make sure you don't have OpenLA installed(it comes with Project 2dfx) as the increased draw distance makes the sun smaller.

You're a life saver. I was wondering why my sun wasn't massive. Thanks! :^:
