For or against rare items from crate drops?

So, I was thinking about things that could've been done better in GTA Online and that's crate drops. People get so hyped when the crate drop alert pops up. Why? Because it contains a piece of clothing. A UNIQUE piece of clothing that they might wear one or two days and then become unused for the rest of their online lives.

 

Let's talk about beer hats. How many of you have had the fortune to pick a beer hat crate? Now, how many of you are STILL wearing those beer hats? I'm not saying casually, I'm saying almost every day. Maybe only 20% of the people who picked a beer hat crate are still wearing them frequently.

 

Now, before someone redirects me to the Bitch and Moan topic, let's talk about some good things of the crate drops. They usually look good, like the Fist T-Shirt and some of the beer hats. They can be worn with multiple clothing pieces to create a really cool outfit (redneck for example).

 

But what most people hate about them is how difficult it is to get them, plus the fact that some people have two characters and the clothing item needs to be picked on both characters because they don't share, even if they look the same on both genders. There's also this glitch that prevents the crate from actually dropping if someone arrives in an air vehicle, which makes people even more rageous. I know there are (or used to be) some glitches that allow you to "re-do" the crate drop, but you need to have no second character, a wired connection or the router to be next to you and you also need to pick a crate drop to make it more successful.

 

I think that they should fix the crate drops before putting unique items inside of them, or maybe make them obtainable from a playlist like the Manhunt mask. Yes, that would make them less unique, but what if you needed to actually WIN the playlist to obtain them? That would make the game more competitive, since more people would play to win. Yes, that would absolutely murder the fun, but the point is that you can play the playlist with your friends and it would still be quite funny.

 

But, enough about my opinions (I didn't want this to become another tl;dr thread), I want to read YOUR opinions. How would you improve the crate drops and the unique items that they contain? Would you nerf them (this term has become popular recently, I don't know why)? Would you buff them? Would you completely remove them? Or you would leave them like they are right now?

Crate drops are sweet because they offer new clothes and stuff. What i don't like however, is when Rockstar advertizes how certain items are available in crates, but the actual crates are glitched and we never see the items within the crates. Either they need to offer more crate drops, or not have it exclusive to a weekend. Come on now, what are the odds of the billions of players that actually sit around in Free Mode getting a special crate with non-purchasable items?

I'd prefer almost any way other than crate drops.

I *was* a collection freak until they started doing this. I wasted my Fourth of July going for Beer Hats, and with this I wasn't willing or able to waste time to get a bad looking shirt, but I still wanted it.

They need to either give these items out like they did with the classic shirts (you get one for playing at all during the event) or they need to be earned by winning the playlist or some other means.

 

The randomness of it is what annoys me. If I'm unable to earn the shirt, then whatever, I don't deserve it. (much like the plates that come with snapmatic contests)

But if I can't get it just because of a crappy system or glitches I get pissed.

 

Thankfully this shirt was so bad looking that the only thing I'm upset about is the fact that I don't have it for collections sake. But since I'm also missing two beer hats that you apparently needed to hack to get, as well as radio t-shirts they just refuse to give to people legit, I'm not too pissed.

I would make the drops last for a month, not a weekend. I would also have them transfer over characters as well.

I have no problem with limited time events or items. However one weekend is way too short. The independence day even though it wasn't because they planned it that way giving people two weeks to get the special items was much fairer i'd say.

 

The event bonuses like Money or RP can still be limited to weekends of a shorter time.

 

Like who in their right mind will ever play the crap playlist ever again. Unless its still possible to get the item.

If they're going to use that buggy broken piece of crap delivery system they need to extend it to one or two weeks, a weekend really is not enough, I spent 6 hours straight in about 4-5 freeroam lobbies on Sunday and didn't even see an ordinary crate drop, let alone a special crate drop!

It should be like, a 25% chance that the special crate you picked up contained nothing but a shirt, or a single beer hat. Now THAT would make sense in my opinion.

I'm completely against them, simply because the crate drop system is bugged beyond anything else in this game. Well, besides a lot of things, but you get the idea. But seriously. If they fix it and increase the drop rate, I'll be all over it.

I'd even be okay with it if the crates had a scheduled drop time instead of being random as all f*ck.

 

There are a ton of better ways to do it than the way they've chosen. That's the life story of GTA Online though.

I dont mind the crates but i spent hours going in and out of sessions looking to see a Crate Drop.

I saw one and it wasnt even a special crate. TWO DAYS and not a single SPECIAL CRATE for me.

 

Probably had a lot to do with the IDIOTS who dont understand that if you get in the green circle before the stupid drop, the drop doesnt happen.

So I couldnt get a fist T-Shirt , even If i had been paid to find one, I would have been unsuccessful.

So Rockstar, please, if you are going to expect us to wait around for crate drops, at least make them consistent and if people enter the circle, just move the circle to another location. I wasted too much valuable weekend time looking for a damn crate.

Just cruise around freemode, and if there's a Simeon HPV, destroy it or sell it. Lobbies tend to put those things into high-priority, canceling out anything else, such as crate drops and armored cars, from spawning.

 

I kinda got the idea down... If one of those things are in the lobby, the others won't come out, but idk how the timer works.

Yes and no.

 

I like how it gives another reason to stay in Free Roam and it also gives some items the feeling of it being more rare or whatever. My issue is that special crates are random. I got 2 of them in Invite Only and got the Victory Fist T-Shirt and I waited for a minute at the most for a message to pop up. Whereas some people waited 30+ hours dicking around in Free Roam and had no luck. With beer hats, I glitched it. I couldn't find a special crate. That's the only issue, make it so they drop regularly, public or invite only.

I managed to get the Victory Fist T-Shirt on both PS3 and Xbox 360 using the Invite Only method. However, I can tell you that countless times over the weekend I would be in a public lobby and crates would drop that couldn't even be opened. Same goes for the Lester Kill Target, the vehicle was indestructible.

 

I'm for it, only if they manage to somehow fix the way that it works.

CRATES ARE NOT GLITCHED OUT ANYMORE

 

Ok all of you are basing your opinion on the beer hat crates. Those were glitched out. Rockstar however has since patched them for this last event weekend. The crate drops as soon as the first person gets there now (I have watched the crate spawn in midair and fall). Thats why you dont see the permanent green circles in lobbies anymore. Rockstar also made it so they drop in "every" session (as they said in the newswire). So you can now get them guaranteed even in invite only sessions. You just have to stay in a session long enough. I got the fist t shirt after 4 hours in a invite only lobby. So basically lobby hopping in public sessions is a really bad idea and youre very unlikely to see a special crate that way which is what everyone is complaining about.

Basically with this new system I definitely think crates are a good idea. If youre a committed player you can just stay by yourself in an invite only lobby for a LONG time and you will definitely get one, or you can roll the dice and lobby hop in public sessions hoping to get lucky and hoping to beat off the other players.

I'm for crate drops. I don't want R* to ditch crate exclusive items altogether, and I'm sure they don't too.

 

It's nice to get something that few others have as well. However, the crates need to spawn MUCH MORE often, and the time window should be increased (I'd say two weeks minimum). It's challenging enough dealing with other players, game freezes, and online disconnects when going for the crates.

 

Good thing I had the patience of a saint last weekend in my invite only session, or I probably would have given up much sooner and not have gotten my fist T-shirt.

I'd prefer them to be rewards for completing the playlist. The crates still have their place, though. They're a nice boost for lower level players.

Ok, R* are SORT OF on the right track. Now to promote certain game modes like LTS etc. They give 2x whatever for a short period of time. Now, gamers being gamers will want to get an exclusive item even if they wont use it. So this isn't rocket surgery. EVERY week promote races, certain playlist, game modes etc. Matchmaking and diversity will be improved, exclusive items that are easy to add to online that already exist can keep the game fresh weekly even daily by throwing these little perks into online.

 

This begs the question, who the f*ck works at this company? These are results you would expect from an office temp with a bad attitude- George Carlin.

eh its a tough question. I think its a good idea having players battle it out for special items. On the other hand it is unfair to players who can not be around for the weekend or just cant get a crate. All in all id have to say I am against exclusive limited time only items.
