Heli tail-rotors changed?

Up to now, my #1 favorite method of taking down a Police Maverick is to shoot out the tail rotor - Minigun, Combat MG or a well-placed Heavy Sniper shot does the trick nicely, without all that "getting blown away while you methodically pick off the pilot" hassle.

Last few times I've tried it, the tail rotor is indestructible - even a minigun barrage can't pop it.

Anyone else noticed this?

Now that I've gone and made a thread about it, I'll do some proper testing tonight, but I'm curious to know if I'm the only one experiencing this.

Yep - this is a new "feature" of 1.17. Finding this out was literally the death of me.

So they stop me sniping tanks, and now they stop me sniping helicopters. Thanks Rockstar. Thanks a lot

And before anyone says to shoot the pilot, yes I know you can do that. That is a lot harder and not always possible, whereas you could see the tail rotor nearly all the time.

Ah. How disappointing.

On the bright side, surely this means no more losing the tail rotor on our Buzzards because we clipped a balcony as we rotated, right?

RIGHT, R*?

Still works on player controlled helicopters, just not police ones.

Oh really? I've not tried that since finding out I couldn't take out the cops like that any more.

Still testing it, but in today couple of hours no rotors were shot by me. And man, I tried.

BTW, I just got some answers about heavy sniper possible nerf post 1.17. Can you share your thoughts about over-distance sniping? It looks like damage over distance is really reduced,

I noticed something difference about Police helos in SP/MP...

In SP when you press the aim button your gun will actually target the pilot/gunner but in MP it won't do that

That's always been that way - If I had to guess as to why, I'd say it's because our Online characters are much tougher than the Story Protags, with access to better weapons faster.

Well, a Heavy Sniper to the head still drops the bad guys on Coveted. Haven't sniped a player in months, tho, so I'm no help there.

That new rifle, tho, the Marksman? Yeah, the name is a warning - you shoot them anywhere but the head and you'll need half a mag to kill them. God forbid they fall over and block their heads with their bodies. Still, PvP weapon, so whaddaya expect, eh? Should've had the suppressor built-in.

Well, it seems my hijacking of my own thread is well underway...

Officer Ronson

The only helicopter that has been affected by this is the Police Maverick, every other Helicopter's tail rot(With the exception of the Buzzard) can be shot regardless if they are controlled by players or AI.

Both SP/MP have the same weapons as the same exact time in fact SP get all the weapons faster than MP character do and SP characters can withstand more damage than online characters can

But the SP weapons are unlocked by Story progression, so if you're like me and SP progress pretty much stopped on Oct 1 2013, then you might not have them all unlocked. Whereas with the MP weapons, it's purely by Rank since there's no Story to progress thru.

I'm not so sure they can take more damage, but even so, when they die, they die - mission over, car gone, transported to hospital. MP Characters can die and will respawn, usually close enough to get back into the fight. In Free Roam we're essentially immortal in that regard.

Getting back on to the tail rotor thing, the question begs to be asked, why have they done this? We already have plenty of ways to take down a heli, it's not like shooting the tail rotor was a particularly easy shot - just more likely to be exposed.

Forgive me for saying so, if there is one thing the LSPD absolutely does not need, it's a buff. Bad enough that the lowliest officer can shoot the pips out of a playing card at 150m (With a pistol. From the hip. While running. While the playing card is driving a car moving at 120mph and... ok, I'm stretching the metaphor- but they're good shots, yeah?).

Now that I think about it, even when you'd take out the rotors and the Maverick went into its death-spin, those unholy snipers are still putting rounds into you. Now that's poise under fire. But my point is that there was nothing exploity, glitchy or unfair about taking out the rotors. I consider it a far more legitimate tactic than putting 2 Heavy Sniper rounds thru the gas tank of a car to detonate it (not that I think gas tank sniping isn't legit - it is, but ambiguously legit, where "take out rotors=heli crashes" is exactly how it works IRL).

Has anyone tried shooting at the tail rotor of a Police Maverick controlled by a player?

Doesn't matter if your own helicopter rotor is bulletproof. Enemies don't shoot rotors, they shoot you - with their magic gun.

Yea SirMichaelRocks mentioned this alot and yea its true and don't even understand what was going through theyre heads when they decided to make this change. With every update, the cops just become more or more unbearable. I just stay the hell out of the hell hole called free roam now because of this and the mass amount of jackasses.

Yer killin' me....actually the buzzard is weaker now in that regard. Just a few bumps and you will be blowing Grey smoke out of the back of it .really really f*cking lame.

True. I wouldn't mind if he actually had something to say, but he never ever does, and he won't give me a serious answer to my question. I believe he's incapable.

Thank you.

Can you prove this? I unloaded on a police helicopter's tail rotor with a minigun, and hit it a LOT, and it did nothing (until the helicopter blew up).

Yeah, they are "doable" by putting 500 minigun rounds into them, but the tailrotor doesn't break anymore when fighting police helicopters.

Sniping tank drivers was just a an exploit of the drawing distance. Taking away sniping/minigunning off helicopter rotors is just a really freakin retarded move by R*. Whats next, vehicle damage removed?

R* logic:

Those copters where ruining GTA:O with their braking tail rotors.

Well I only did it once. During Hack and Dash. Not in FM.

This happens in Online, too. Not unique to SP
