If R* would stop making sh*tty little tweaks and instead would just take a step back to look at the fundamental flaws in the GTAO experience, it would be SUCH a better game.

 

I had been away from GTA for a while when I came across details of the recent update yesterday so I thought I would check it out.

 

The first thing I would say about event weekends is that every single one so far has promised a greater frequency of crate drops with extra special crates too. However, I am yet to experience an event weekend where this actually happens without issues. For instance, last night I played for a few hours and didn't see a single crate of any description. Eventually I saw a 10 hour warning for a special crate but after that there were no further notices and the crate never showed up. Even when crates do appear frequently, they inevitably end up with a glitched drop-zone.

 

Today I thought I would try and grab the special mask for completing the event playlist, which I joined from the start-up screen. Landed with 3 players and won the first round which of course persuaded the opposing team to f*ck off.

 

So I'm back in free mode by myself and there doesn't seem to be any obvious way of jumping into the action with the hoards of other players who I am sure would also be looking to take part in the event... right? But I'm at a loss. All that seems to be available is the ability to host the playlist (which must first be found within the alphabetical list of Rockstar playlists -- so if you didn't already know the name of it there would be no indication of which one is actually related to the current event). Okay, I'll host the playlist and surely the auto-invite procedure will have the lobby buzzin with eager beavers in no time...

 

...Invite all from current lobby; invite all skill-matched players (whatever that means). What about the few randomers who will select quick-job in their phone and land in my lobby? Amongst all of those players, surely there are just three who are either looking to snap up their free mask, who want to make the most out of the bonus event RP/$, are who just want to play some LTS. SURELY?!

 

One dude joins on-call until the match automatically begins but then instantly ends because there are not enough players and I'm back in free mode. What the f*ck Rockstar.

 

tl;dr Either GTAO matchmaking is still shockingly bad, or I haven't learned how to use it after a month's worth of game time. What do you think?

Join a good crew with active members and play the event playlist together. You can have a good time AND get a free mask; what's not to love?

Actually i must accept part of this is true, matchmaking sometimes is surprisingly bad, but it's not Rockstar's fault entirely, players as you said tend to f*ck off like pussies when you are winning, most of them don't like LTS and instead they choose to grind Rooftop Rumble (although recently the Rooftop Rumble fever has gone down a lot).

Also 80% of players prefer not to bother doing jobs and instead money glitch, when they have their 5 million dollars on the bank they just join a freemode session and start being a dick, totally killing the jobs.

I mostly play survival and missions and rarely have problems matching or finding people .. on the rare occasion I get kicked out because of my high level, but it probably happens 2 of 10 games, so no biggie, if people are kicking, they idiots anyway.

 

I played LTS playlist yesterday to see what it was like and wanted to see the mask, I must of been lucky because I got about 10 people playing and we played all 10 rounds ..

 

I think LTS is boring as heck .. not too sure what the attraction is, it is short lived. The tanks and buzzard one was fun, but the rest were boring .. LTS isn't for me ..

 

Rumble sucks big time, I played it many times and I am surprised how often it is still played .. I don't get it, but I exit as as I join and reject it if it shows up on my list. R* should REALLY remove it as a contact mission and let those that want to play it, play it without subjecting the rest of us to it .. it is so BORING .. the only time I might play it is if I see a level 50 or so and it's just me or him and I would help him out .. although it is rare I would.

 

Actually last time I played RR, this level 50 grabbed the docs and then went to the ammo store and I am going WTF ? I texted him and asked him what he was doing, and he didn't reply, just kept screwing around .. I guess he was just buying time .. so I grab my buzzard and as soon as he saw it, he must of panicked and went and delivered the docs .. needless to say, all he had to do was say to me, I am waiting for 15 mins or something .. I ended up blocking him .. twit. I wish people would play RR in their little groups and leave the rest of us out of it.

I too enjoy it for the open world aspect of it and spend most of my time in free mode. On the rare occasions I venture into the structured world of matchmaking, I'm always left disappointed.

 

As nyudyrgh mentioned, playing with friends is fun but the sad truth is that it's really the only way to get any real value out of GTAO as a whole. Long gone are the GTA IV days of joining a Race lobby by yourself and staying there all night with a gang of randoms.

tl;dr: The community is bad. We have lots of quitters, pussies, glitchers, jerks and idiots.

 

That's not R*'s fault though, at least not directly. It's just the way matchmaking works: It invites all the people you know. When you host a game and select auto-invite, it sends invites to the following people:

- People you've played with recently.

- Friends.

- Crew Members.

- Equally Skilled (And currently playing) players.

- People in your lobby.

- Randoms On Call.

You will notice that once you have two or three people in your job, more people will start to join and faster. It's a snowball effect.

Too many people having weird issues with the game too often.

 

When I did the playlist on Saturday it took 3 attempts - one involved restarting the game (a timeout and return to free roam would've been nice R*). I'm sure if I kept doing it they would've been fine, on average it runs great for me, but those little hiccups get frustrating.

 

For me, I don't mind that they happen, but rather the game wastes so much of my time trying to get out of them (restarts, or wait for 5 minutes until it finally times out).

You play the game after the update and expect something more but you didn't get it. Because of this, you moan on here.

This is a free service and you think you deserve more than you have. You are entitled. There, I said it.

 

And these "sh*tty little tweaks" is Rockstar improving the experience and getting rid of as many issues as possible. I don't think you are aware of how long it takes to change code and test it, then repeat the process until everything works like it should. On top of this, we get new content, new things to do in this amazing game world.

This is all for FREE. And will continue to be FREE. If you don't like, f*ck off. Go pay a ridiculous monthly fee for some other MMO. This game isn't perfect, but it is always getting better.

 

EDIT: The game itself is not the problem. It is the idiots that play it. Chrome car drivers, griefers, modders, glitchers. Those involve the personal choices of ungrateful gamers, not Rockstar being incompetent.

Yea i dealt with so many dbags this weekend its not even funny. From getting kicked from LTS & Missions to amount of afkers and people quitting out on team in LTS. All my lame ass crew does is free aim deathmatch and same two maps over & over again instead of other stuff.

GTAO is not perfect but I stil think the game is great, saying it sucks is gonna get a lot of negative reactions. BUT the matchmaking is pretty terrible at times. It seems a bit improved since the update but I don't know if that's my imagination. I would love to find full lobbies but more often than not, whether it's races or deathmatches you're lucky to get more than 4 or 5 people.

GTAO loading screen and its trivial result consumed my play time more than the actual game play LOL. That still excludes sour play time meeting idiots in any occasion I'm in. I can even hardly join a friend. It's either bullsh*tted by server or my friends have done with this game.

 

Tbh, if I were looking for a quality spare time, I wouldn't choose to play gta.

Phone > quick job > join playlist > on call. Gets you into a full lobby almost every time. I always use the on call feature means you can hang around in freeroam instead of sitting watching the lobby screen

I don't usually join playlists but I'll give it a go. I don't like to use on call cuz half the time I'll get put in Rooftop Rumble or some sh*tty user created DM trap. I wish they would overall the matchmaking and let us pick the lobbies we want to join.

I dont usually join event playlists for 2 reasons.

 

1) I'm at my dad's house from late friday to late sunday, which is when I usually have hockey so, I'm busy either way.

 

2) The only jobs I really like doing in this game are races, which is usually with my racing crew.

I've tried 3 times on this LTS one and again am having the same exact issues as the last time. Freezing, everyone leaving, sitting at the waiting screen forever cause the host wont launch..etc

.Yeah it's weird s**t like this that needs a bit more focus. It's probably a dropped network packet or some other issue - but the game handles it so poorly. I played the new playlist start to finish, but it took two failed attempts to get in beforehand.

Games more boring now because the titan/cargobob are locked, the gate launch is fixed (still haven't checked that yet), and they removed the truck that carries cars from online. Sure they're glitchy as f*ck but still lots of fun. I reckon soon they'll patch the game-breaking pearl-on-any-paint 'exploit'. I miss the novelty of taxis spawning in traffic after one of the patches, only for them to disappear after the next. Used to have 4 dozers spawn near the factory at Cypress Flats at launch. Now they don't
