Cebra
So I went into this expecting a pretty decent David Fincher movie. What I didn't expect was to come out of the theatre in awe, but that's still exactly what happened. This movie is the very definition of a psychological thriller, and it's one of the best ones I've seen in a very long time. The entire cast gave incredible performances, and I don't normally like Ben Affleck but his character was 100% believable. Despite that, the real show-stopper was Rosamund Pike. Credit's due to her for giving such a convincing portrayal of a psychotic, complicated character, and I hope we'll see her in many roles to come - she's a great actress. Anyway, have any of you guys seen it yet? I love movies that really make you think - and this one touched upon so many different subjects I think I'm gonna have to watch it again. A tip if you're planning to see this: pay close attention to little details - the symbolical nature of the cinematography, the little quirks of the characters, etc. It pays off in the end. Zondar
I didn't realise this was out yet. I've read the book, which was alright , but not brilliant. There was definitely the bones of a good film in that book though so I'll probably check this out.
BatFerYou
Thanks for the decent review, I quite fancied this but wanted to hear some non-critic opinions first. Will check it out.

Yeah, you definitely should. Also, before you make a review of your own, think a bit about the ending before you pass judgement on it. Just sayin'. BatFerYou
Uh oh! As long as it's nothing like Batflecks interview with Bill Maher. Edited October 5, 2014 by BatFerYou
gta_
In the end, 'Gone Girl' echoes what experience has taught, in that with marriage you think you are getting what you desire when in reality you are getting what you deserve... Cebra
Alright, I got the book. Even more suspenseful so far.
Rown
I enjoyed the suspense and the premise was interesting but it felt like it caved in on itself a bit in the back half. The following tags are serious, plot points will be revealed. Neil Patrick Harris's character brings her to his lake house, which is monitored by security cameras, and yet no one pays attention to the day she shows up there? Or that she isn't dragged in but just waltzes in the front door with him? Suddenly this high profile kidnapping victim returns and no one gives a damn about the circumstances of her 'abduction', I expect as much from society but the FBI are paid to give a damn. Hell Ms. Missouri Super Cop basically lays it all out for them in her line of questioning and they just stare her down. I've heard other criticisms that further this idea of a disconnect in the story. Like meeting at a casino... with thousands of cameras. It feels like there should be a thirty minute sequel or deleted scenes that deal with the prosecution and conviction of this case based on boatloads of evidence that she's a crazy murderer. That said, the beginning of the film was good enough to steamroll these criticisms in my mind so I still enjoyed the film overall. Rown

Rown Exactly what I was thinking: There's this idea that everything is hopeless for Nick at the end, but like you said, NPH's character (I'm just gonna say NPH from now on) just walked in casually with the girl. And what about when Nick visited NPH at his other house looking to talk about her? Surely if the guy has security cameras on his fancy house with the girl, he has security cameras on his other house, too? Couldn't they just look at the tapes to show that NPH had no involvement with the girl during the, what, ten days she was gone until she called him up? I suppose they could suggest that he was holding her elsewhere, but again, Nick showed up at his door and spoke with him, and I think that would cause some suspicion. Plus, there's the countless scenes of NPH and her casually sitting on the couch and watching TV while she stuffs her face, despite her claims that he "starved her" and "beat her every night"...even though the tapes would clearly show otherwise? Overall, I loved it. It was incredibly gripping. No, I haven't read the book, but I'm really interested in doing so now that I've seen this. I can understand why people might be displeased with the ending, but I don't think it would be as satisfying as we think it would be if it ended up differently. Cebra
Literally every single plot hole is explained in the book. I guess they just couldn't address most of them in the movie, since Amy only narrates her diary in it. Still, they should have found some way to implement it since it makes it look dumb when there are (apparent) glaring plot holes. Miss Malevolent
I thought the movie was good and the book as well. My only complaint is how some around the Web have hero worshiped a pure sociopath. That's been the most shocking thing to come out of that movie for me. The chick was clearly nice personoo for cocoa puffs and no hero for sticking it to her man. Edited November 8, 2014 by Miss Malevolent

Yeah I don't understand how anyone could come out of that movie thinking... That his wife was some kind of victim of the institution of marriage. There were undertones that it's not all it's cracked up to be but the film as a whole sets Amy up as this scheming maniacal monster of a human being. She had history of setting up lovers, she endured the trauma of being made into a children's book character... as a kid, but she still deliberately set Nick up to take the fall for her murder so she could then kill herself. Most of the damage to her psyche is done before Nick has an affair. The sadism was already there. All the affair provided was an excuse to go crazy. I might need to see the film again to try and appreciate these other angles. Rown Miss Malevolent

Zoobz
Just finished watching this film. Went in to this with zero expectation and was pleasantly surprised. Really good roller coaster thriller. Wasn't expecting some of the twists that developed through out. Kind of wanted it to go on for longer and see what happens in the long run, but I guess that's part of the magic. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. UshaB
Watched this movie for the first time. Really really gripping. That girl is a total psycho bitch, seriously. The performances by the cast was great and it was believable. It is definitely worth the watch, very suspenseful and greatly directed.
