ATM hacking minigame idea

For those who don't know, there are ATM machines scattered around the map where players can deposit money into the bank. However, the easier (and most common yet unrealistic) method is simply going to the Maze Bank website on your phone/computer and depositing the cash from where your character's standing. So, to make sure these ATMs get used sometime instead of just standing there as a slightly useless interactive prop, I played some Watch Dogs, and thought of an idea....

 

ATM HACKING

 

How it works? After a certain level (level 16), Lester would notify you that you can hack ATMs for some easy money, and this feature would be unlocked after a quick tutorial. The hacking will be like the normal hacking minigame where you have to find the correct numbers and the right letters within a time limit to unlock. So, if you are good at hacking, this would be a breeze.

 

However, there are some obstacles the player would face. First, the player will still be in free-roam while hacking and can still be killed by others. (best to do the hacking in low-populated areas or have some friends guard you)

Second, after you complete a successful hack, a 3 star wanted level will be placed on you.

 

However if you successfully hack an ATM, you will receive a monetary reward between $5k to $15k.

don't know how "easy" it is to hack ATMs… thats why IRL people use trucks to drive thru storefronts and rip them out of place.

 

 

So does it take money out of other peoples accounts when you hack it ?

Make it like PayDay 2 where you have a saw, then go all berseker with the ATMs and cut them all like a piñata when you want it's candy.

No but really this should work like the 24/7 Supermarkets, cops will chase you if you try to hack them, because then everyone will just go on a hacking spree getting "free money".

technically, you don't hack the ATM.. you hack the card. You would either need a blank or used ATM card and do whatever you need to do with it for the ATM to read it a certain way.

In order for your idea to be considered by Rockstar it must pass three criteria'

 

1. Does it effect shark card sales?

2. Is it going to be too difficult for a 5 year old to understand?

3. Does it require the very least amount of time and effort from developers to make?

This won't happen for the following reasons:

 

It's a good idea.

 

It sounds like fun.(imagine the gunfights around ATMS)

I like this idea , but sadly, as two posters have already pointed out, this could affect shark card sales

It would give the ATMs an actual use considering everyone uses their phones to deposit their Houser Brothers Fun Bucks.

I'd like to see something like this go one of two ways:

1. You can hack the ATM, succeed, make a random amount of money, get a 3 star wanted level upon a successful heist robbery and deal with that from there.
2. The hacking fails and the ATM locks you out, gives you a 3 star wanted level and you can either leave it and deal with your wanted level not getting any money, or if you have at least 2 people and a vehicle with a trailer hitch (Bison, Bobcat, Sadler), you can hook the ATM to the truck and rip it out, which triggers an event where you deliver it to Lester's warehouse so he can unlock it and give you the cash (after taking his cut of course).

ATM Hacking in Multi-Theft Auto was pretty cool, so I'm sure this could work.
