The Alpha Mod 2.0 is too exaggerated.

 

We are planning on redoing the alpha graphics merely through timecyc editing/preflight editing. Basically, a more accurate and faithful to the game way.

 

We have been... very vague in the past about why GTA 3D takes so long to develop.

It's about time we clear that up.

 

The mod has first been started from complete scratch in Autumn of 2014, with a team of semi professional modders who have previously worked in the same area (beta mods/MeltedSOX's to be exact). I won't get into detail here but I just wanted to make sure that people know we've started from 0.

 

Through our years of development we have perfected our designs and ideas, often resulting in a lot of work getting scrapped. I'll be honest here, all work pre-mid 2015 has been scrapped or touched up to meet our standards. The mod has been, basically, restarted from scratch for more than 3 times since 2014 internally.

 

All because of the dedication to quality over quantity. No matter how long it takes. It's no longer about remaking the alpha itself but more about a long art project which takes time and passion. Anyways, we want to make sure that the mod gets released by April or May as we feel like it's about time that we deliver a V1 now that our design meets our high standards.

 

I hope this clears up what's been going on and why it took 1.5 year(s) to get here. The first version will not be as complete as we like but we'll make sure to update it regularly with monthly patches.

Thanks. ​I like cartoonish alpha style, will final version of the GTA 3D looks similar to it?​

I can confirm that GTA3D nor First Builds will have this.... let's say extremely cartoonish graphics :p Instead, both will focus on what Rockstar shown us on screenshots

Some good news! I was testing III animations once again and discovered that I can replace death animations without them glitching out in-game. That being said:

We made the discovery that the chalk outlines are at least somewhat based on the actual death poses that were once in the game, so I'm now taking the time to remake them, fully animated and all. They're unfinished, but these examples should give a good idea of what we're going for.

Here's one more I'm doing, based off the final chalk texture. There's no actual reference for it sadly, and I've only just began posing the last frame so it isn't imported into the game yet.

Haven't seen any buildings in a while. Are many still in development?

 

I believe guys already have some buildings and map areas already done ;)

Hello there,

 

We've been recently working hard on animations. Both generic ones and special ones (for Claude). We have managed to reproduce these animations quite well.

Here are some multi purpose items (both gameplay shots and animation tests, I suppose).

Actually, only two of them are, the Afro-American thief and the Diablo. The Diablo needs some reworking though.

 

The rest are final pedestrians. We did not insist on showcasing alpha peds this time around since the main focus is animations.
Think of the Afro-American thief image as a gift! :p

 

Same goes for the timecycle.... the daytime will be completely remade soon enough. The current version is not accurate, however, it is a good base.

It's the alpha running animation based on the G screenshot and panic anim.

 

We had to use bases for most. Even player idle stance is based on the unused idle anim called "idle_pockets".

We've pretty much compared it frame by frame and there's an exact frame like in the G shot, even if I wasn't able to capture it exactly in the game picture.

Of course, that's not your fault since you did not really see all the frames. :p

Actually, the amb light makes it appear khaki as further test have showed.

It usually happened when the amb light is a strong red or orange.

It is very possible but it is clearly not the way it actually was. If you look closely at some pictures you can see the chunks.

Sergiu and I worked on the models of two chinatown blocks today (chinabuilds08 and 09) that were just white placeholder boxes before (due to the changed road layout the buildings were no longer fitting). Interestingly the geometry of these two blocks still shows signs of the alpha layout and it is quite obvious it was changed to fit the new one. It's very nice to find clues of the alpha/beta models in the final geometry and reconstruct it from that...hopefully we will be able to reconstruct the remaining blocks in a similar way. The textures are being remade by Mr. Jago and we're excited to retexture the blocks once they fit the layout again. I'm sure we can post some screenshots soon, we're so excited :D

Your work guys is just amazing, this is why I love the people here always looking for the little details and for the perfection, just like me I always care for the little little details (a bit maniac lol) in almost everything in my life. Look at those f*cking screens, this sh*t look so authentic!

I saw somewhere renders of very early Freeway and Hunter, found in GTA III files, will y'all try to recreate them in mod?

 

Edit: Freeway is chopper.txd/.dff in gta3.img, couldn't fint Hunter sadly.

These wouldn't be alpha. They were most likely made towards the end of the games dev cycle I'm assuming.
