GTA3D Mod. Bringing it back to the way it used to be, step by step.   Grand Theft Auto 3D is a team effort to bring GTA 3 back to its earliest stages. The mod has been built from the gr

Hey everybody! It's been a long time, hasn't it? The mod has evolved a lot over the years, and GTA III certainly feels like a different game now...

It looks like it might be caused by the resolution you're running. If you change your res to the 1920x1080 and select the widescreen ON option it should look fine.

I mentioned it before that my monitor highest resolution is 1280x1024, so I don't know why you want me to change it to 1920x1080. When I turned on the widescreen option, nothing happened (even after launching the game again). Anyway I've downloaded this mod, just because I wanted to experience and check it myself, but there's not really much to do, because it's not finished yet. By the way I like that it's a mod about the pre-release GTA 3.

Ah, I didn't see that. The text issue shouldn't be too much of an problem as I assume it's only an issue in the menus. Enjoy what you can I suppose.

Might be time to update your monitor though. ;)

Might be time to update my monitor? Hell no! I wouldn't change my good old monitor, only because of some large and wide text in settings of this mod... Rather might be time to update this mod, because it has not been updated since January 2019.

5:4 is junk, if you're going to be a stubborn luddite use 4:3.

The mod is not getting updated anytime soon, so a new monitor is your only choice for now.

Ah, the classic GTAForums mentality to bash and mock users that doesn't use teh latest and greatest version of their hardware/software. Seriously, you can F-word yourself because nobody is not going to spend money for new components because the mod creators think that everyone uses their own setup and configurations and then do basically nothing when users start complaining because they are having problems with the resolution, as in this case, for example. Which is a pretty easy fix for the developers to implement but they are too lazy to do so because "it looks fine" in their end. And this mentality applies to almost every modder of every game, not only of the GTA ones.

Don't listen to these toxic holier than thou kind of persons, your monitor's resolution is fine. The fault is not yours, but the modders' probably for the reasons that I stated above, since the default game runs perfectly fine with your resolution.

Wow, are you okay?

If I were a dev on this mod, I wouldn't fix it either. You know why? Because it is an issue experienced by a single user, and it doesn't affect the overall gaming experience. Virtually the entire world has moved on to use a widescreen aspect ratio. It's not worth the investment of time.

You can literally get a better monitor on second hand markets for cheap, something which is not even "the latest and greatest". There is no reason to stay with 2003 hardware that is likely to break sooner or later. Save up and get something newer, because it isn't our job to support obsolete hardware.

For your knowledge, the mod already got a new HUD/UI which should be compatible with most resolutions. We are not releasing the update until Portland is finished. But I guess that flied over your head too or you're basically new around here.

Oh yeah, XP support might be dropped soon too. Stop justifying 2003 hardware FFS.

FWIW 5:4 is neglected not only by mods, but by games nowadays. Literally nothing targets this aspect ratio anymore, because I'm pretty sure it's hard to buy new 5:4 monitors.

There is a much, much easier solution for you - play in 1280x960, 4:3 resolution, with tiny black bars.

Hey!

Look at this piece of bullsh*t, I can play just fine!

If you don't want to buy a monitor, just lower the game's resolution.

What rollcage? It's just a mess of smudged pixels.

The U-Jerk never had a rollcage, confirmed by Capital Autos renders *and* vehicles.dff.

well i didnt know, cause many of the sites on the gta wikis say things that i dont really know that are true like:

there was a army helicopter during development,

the cabbie was called taxi xpress like in gta 2,

and some more things.

Beta researchers don't use gta wiki for informations.

You first copy the audio folder somewhere, then the mod over it, like the readme says. If you install over gta3 you get txd.img clashes

I buggered it up on my first try too. I'm not on the only one which is nice to know, I'd suggest making a change to the instructions though. It's not that the instructions are wrong, it's that almost every GTA3 mod would generally assume you're copying the mod over the top of an existing copy of the game.

The common mistake most people seem to make (including me) is believing they need to modify an existing copy of the game, when in fact, they're downloading the contents of the game without the audio files. Maybe it could be worded slightly differently (or maybe people like me just need to read the damn instructions). I'd suggest something like this though;

1) Copy the contents of the archive to a location of your choosing (eg: D:\Games\Rockstar Games\GTA3D)

2) Copy the audio folder from a preexisting version of the game into the folder above, ensuring not to replace any files.

3) Done!

Although this does sound better I'll admit, people will either replace the sounds with the vanilla one on accident (hence why the current readme was phrased like it is now), or just straight up ignore the instructions either way, despite us having a pinned post even 😛

I have played the version of the mod that is available and I like it! It feels like playing an alpha version of GTA 3!

Keep up with the work! I'm expecting to play the final version of the mod someday!

Thanks a lot for the kind feedback!

He he, we surely hope to finish it one day.

Money counter issue has been handled in our dev version but it's not fixed în the public V1. :)
