What made you love and adore GTA IV?

Oh yes and the other one, vehicle customization!

It's funny that a lot of cars had a lot of different variants/parts that would have justified vehicle customization. I wish there was also performance customization, as the Dukes with the blower isn't as fast as it looks.

I love in IV how there are distinctly different areas where the peds are shifty looking, like hobos hanging around dumpsters on fire, gang members hanging around their run down apartments blocks. Then you have the ritzy areas like people sitting at an open cafe enjoying a meal or a drink, business men making deals, cops buying a hotdog near Star Junction. Peaceful areas like Middle Park where you see peds taking in the sights, peds doing some yoga or tai chi and having a walk around the lake. It really adds to the immersive experience and you could forget you are playing a game for awhile. Behind all this facade there is the storyline should you wish to do some missions or just go for a drive around the city and investigate places. It's totally up to you which is what I love about IV. Have a bad day at work, come home put IV on and f**k up some gangsters.

I loved pretty much everything about the game - though I felt there were many things that could be added to further enhance the experience.

I loved the:

  • Driving physics
  • Weapons
  • Windy roads and driving at night
  • The characters
  • The plot
  • The crossover between the three protagonists - hence thickening the plot further

I`ll never forget my 1.st GTA IV playtrough. The jump from cartoonish and silly 3D era to serious crime game with great Scorsese movie-type of the story was fantastic.

I was so amazed by it`s looks and story that it was really unforgetable.

Seeing a LC in HD with all the great skyline, huge map and buildings which actually had visible textures on them was 10 steps forward from what we had in 3 and LCS whre LC was really one boring, small, dull and gritty little hole.

And seeing LC in IV felt almost like real life NYC to me.

Then the Niko of course, the protagonist who actually had a deep personality unlike old cartoonized GTA characters, full of cliches.

Then there were the gun sounds. When i heard AK47 and Carbine rifle for the 1.st time i was amazed by it`s sounds. After those poor computerized gun sound effects in 3D era these new ones felt really fascinating and the shootouts were really intense.

Not to mention the explosions, funny taxi drivers, new NPCs who werent just some brainless robots etc..

Yes, i have some good memories on IV.

-The phisics

I remember pushing people off stairs and crashing everything on bike, that was something that got me really entertained the first time.

Pushing people off stairs, from buildings andto trains distracted me from doing missions.

-Liberty City is still better than Los Santos, just needs a country side and more islands and i'ts gold.

I like how you might be walking along and then someone answers their phone. I swear the first time I experienced this I was like wow, pedestrians have depth, they live their own life and this ped is talking to someone on their phone! It was amazing to see that the first time. Also peds actually doing things like watering plants, sweeping up, wiping and cleaning windows, reading newspapers, smoking and holding coffee cups..there's just so much. All adds up to more realism that Liberty City is a real place and is functioning as it should in this NY 'alter reality.'

Also when you walk into a Burger Shot, you can almost smell the ketchup and burgers, in Cluckin' Bell you can just about smell the grease. They got the feel of the locations bang on.

- story

- driving physics

- dark and gritty, so immersive

- characters

And the EFLC of course. Especially TLaD. I must admit I wasn´t into the whole biker gang thing first. I was more interested in TBoGT. But I loved IV, so I thought, let´s see what this biker story will be. And it was like "Wow". TLaD had me as soon as the intro started and this amazing music kicked in. It took a long time till I was ready to try TBoGT, because I couldn´t stop playing TLaD. :D

- The gritty vibe, the city is quite a dark, uninviting place. But there was also the glamour of Star Junction, there was great variety in the city. The city felt alive to me.

- The variety of the pedestrians.

- The physics, how you can bump into people, push them over, small things like that.

- The emotional connection to the story, and the characters in it.

- The storytelling.

- One protaganist.

- Niko Belic, the greatest ever GTA character in my opinion.

- Making moral decisions which affect the game.

- More personal grudges, not going up against state entities.

Everything until V came out and surpassed it.

You're sad. Did you not get enough attention already? If you love V so much why are you never on the V section and always on the IV section? That tells alot

Oh sure, It's alright for people to troll the V section with statements about IV but if It's the other way around its a banable offence.

Just saying.

Never said ban. I don't want anyone banned. But us telling him to stop wont do anything, if a mod says something, he'll probably listen. And i don't know any IV trolls who does what he's been doing. The guy is literally going to IV appreciation threads seeking attention in the most negative way.

What made me fall in love with IV was how serious and grounded it was in comparison to games like Saints Row the Third. I got hooked on it as soon as I heard the grim loading theme.

I dunno man, there's just something very special about that game that amazes me to this day.

It's truly a work of art.

You can't really explain it with words. It's just a badass game.

First of all, the storyline. It was so poetic, breathtaking and tear jerking. The pursuit of the American Dream becoming an escape from nightmares in a city where no one can be trusted, especially in Niko's case: a man with nothing to loose that, at the same time, wanted to redeem himself for the bad things he did in the past, but all the experiences he has been through in Liberty City didn't help him doing so, although he didn't give up. Grand Theft Auto IV also teaches the importance of family, and all the responsibilities that follow. Niko is a very well-written character, and I think his voice actor, Michael Hollick, did a really good job, you could feel the pain and the urge of revenge in Niko's voice, especially in "Hostile Negotiation", where Niko had to save his cousin from those Russian goons - absolutely one of my favourite missions of the series - or when he finally met Darko Brevic - although I didn't kill him. The thing I liked the most of Grand Theft Auto IV's storyline are the connections between Niko's adventure and Johnny and Luis' ones, everything was linked together from the diamonds deal to Triads' heroin in a continuity of surprising plot twists. Also, there was no matter of which protagonist you were playing as, weather you played as Niko, Johnny or Luis, you always felt as the protagonist yourself. Finally, the endings were definitely heartwarming.

Liberty City: absolutely the fourth protagonist of the trilogy. It felt so alive, breathing, and everything was at the right place. The contrast between Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony's Liberty City increased even more the immersion: the good, the bad and the beautiful facades of a city forgotten by God. Sometimes, I liked to contemplate Algonquin's skyline from Hove Beach wondering how that place would look like, looking forward to exploring it.

The soundtrack was simply amazing, every song fit perfectly the game's concept. Listening to "Home Is Where the Hatred Is" by Gil Scott-Heron while driving through the streets of Liberty City gave me goosebumps. Listening to "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi while riding off into the Alderney sunset along with the Lost MC was simply awesome, or listening to "No Security" by The Crookers featuring Kelis while parachuting down during "Departure Time" was an experience itself.

I'm really missing Grand Theft Auto IV & Episodes from Liberty City, it's been more than two years since I last played it because my PlayStation 3 had the YLoD back then. By the way, I hope you're all still enjoying it!

When I first got the game at 11 years old, I really thought it was dissappointing and that Saints Row 2 did a much better job. 2 years later, I decided to play it again. As I kept progressing through the story, it made me really appreciate it. On a random summer day, I just went on that [email protected] internet cafe and checked out the random social networking profiles. Some descriptions, I still remember to this day. The thing I got most out of GTA IV is doing all the side missions and the story missions. I used the same method for V and the other GTA games I decided to replay. So overall, GTA IV helped me appreciate the world of GTA. I wished V didn't have the 3 protagonists. The IV characters are much more memorable than the ones in V. I can't remember anyone besides the 3 protagonists in V, but I sure do remember V's characters and things about them.

When I played GTA IV for the first time, I was like "Wow, GTA has finally grown up". I loved the more serious vibe of the game. But let´s face it, it won´t be the way with future GTAs anymore. IV received (and is still receiving) so much hate. Most of today´s gamers are giving a sh*t about a good storyline and a vibe like IV had. They want a big multiplayer where they can act like complete pricks (trolling, griefing, lay siege to people while they are in a LSC, a barber shop or a clothes store and so on) and making videos about it. "Lulz, soooo funnnnnyyyy, niggaaaa..."

As EFLC came out, it was like a crossroad...continue the more serious vibe of GTA IV (TLaD) or get back to the gimmicky gameplay (TBoGT). TBoGT was quite enjoyable, but for me it didn´t come close to IV or TLaD. But sadly, they decided to do it more gimmicky with V. As much as I enjoy playing V, there would have been so much more potential. But this is not the worst thing. They decided to create GTA Online and put stuff into it, which was left out of SP. Which means they pissed on their long time fans only to cater to the "acting like a complete prick and making videos of it" online multiplayer crowd.

I was so excited for the new gen version of V, I strongly believed they will fix some of the Issues in SP people complained about. As beautiful the new gen version is, I was a bit disappointed too. I was hoping for stuff like more garage space, insurance, trackers, purchasable safehousees... But no. Beside the nice little things they added (Duke of Death, Dodo, all the DLC cars spawning in traffic) there was only one big thing: FPV. None of the previous GTAs needed a FPV, it´s only one more thing that caters to the "shoot everything in sight" online multiplayer kids, who better should be playing sh*t like CoD.

So I´m not expecting they´ll create another GTA like IV and TLaD in the future. Quite the contrary, since GTA Online is such a success, they´ll cater even more to those "21st century gamers". It´s sad, but GTA VI will probably be the first GTA I won´t preorder. Perhaps I´ll wait for gameplay videos and reactions till I order it.

That´s not the point. They rather used countless hours of development time for a gimmicky FPV (GTA and FPV? Come on...) instead of putting things into SP which they already created...stuff people really wanted, like 10 car garages and so on. It´s like sh*tting on their long time fans, who always loved GTA for its SP.
