It seems that multiple news sites and sources are reporting the first case of Ebola in the US.

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/watch-live-first-case-ebola-diagnosed-u-s-cdc-confirms-n215231

What are your thoughts? While I don't expect some kind of pandemic since it can't be communicated unless someone is showing symptoms, Ebola is still pretty f*cking scary.

Mexico here I come.

Hell yeah, I'll go with you. Plenty of fine women and amazing food. Beats this ebola wasteland known as America. If Mexico doesn't work out though, i'll settle for Canada.

I think people are overreacting just a tad. Yes, Ebola has a 50% death rate and there is no vaccination available as of this minute. But, there are two vaccines being tested now. Also, the person in this confirmed case had recently traveled to West Africa. They didn't contract Ebola in the US as some would lead you to believe. My FB is nothing but paranoid conspiracists freaking out because the government is using Ebola to start "World War Z, y'all!"

This is just conspiracy theories so the US government can do something nasty.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

70% death rate

50%

  • The average EVD case fatality rate is around 50%. Case fatality rates have varied from 25% to 90% in past outbreaks.

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/

http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1411100

By September 14, 2014, a total of 4507

probable and confirmed cases, including

2296 deaths from EVD (Zaire species) had

been reported from five countries in West

Africa Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal,

and Sierra Leone. We analyzed a detailed

subset of data on 3343 confirmed and 667

probable Ebola cases collected in Guinea,

Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone as of

September 14.

RESULTS

The majority of patients are 15 to 44 years

of age (49.9% male), and we estimate that

the case fatality rate is 70.8% (95%

confidence interval [CI], 69 to 73) among

persons with known clinical outcome of

infection.

Under Bush we didn't have Ebola, Thanks Obama.

In all seriousness, this is pretty scary. I know that the US healthcare is exponentially better than West Africa's, but the fact that people here are coming into contact with it then bringing it back means that it could spread like wildfire.

Looks like we're gonna face an Ebola apocalypse. If the government collapses and we all become savage tribes killing each other, I'm starting my own government.

I'm having the sickest fever right now.

If I die of ebola, please let me meet Chloë Moretz first.

Sh*t, I need to go to Canada or Mexico.

The ebola victim is in Texas, right? Choose Canada.

The reason the death rate is so high is because it is occurring in third world countries. The majority of people who are infected wait too long to seek medical care if at all and most of the health care facilities don't have the same safety standards of developed countries.

Two American doctors were flown back to the U.S. with Ebola a month or so ago and they were both cured and the virus didn't spread. Right now this is an isolated incident and people are over reacting. If in the next few weeks a bunch of people show up at hospitals infected it will be something to worry about but right now it's not.
