Minor destructible environment

Adding some destructible environment to say the invulnerable volleyball nets, telephone poles, road signs, bushes and guardrails would be a nice added touch. I'm not advocating adding damage on the scale of Battlefield but I'd like to be able to take down telephone poles with a 120,000 lb. Rhino while turning the gun turret instead of getting stuck on every pole and palm tree I come across. Furthermore, it would be nice if concrete deteriorated with gunshots and the bark of trees would fall off after a firefight. While this may not be possible due to the rage engine and bullet physics engine I just wanted to see what people think about this missing element from the GTA series.

I would love to see more destructible things, I have always disliked that a bush (YES A PATHETIC BUSH) car stop my car dead like a brick wall...

But a few more things to blow up is always a bonus in my book...

agree... i really would love more destructible buildings, heck make all buildings destructible or atleast add a lobby with those feature, los santos would look like a waste land in no time but it would be great.

one of my favorite PS2 games is Mercenaries, that game have like a 95% off destructible environment, its really nice.

to this day i still dont get how developers managed to do stuff like that on the old underpowered consoles and somehow stuff like that is almost non-existent on more powerful consoles like the ps3/360 or even the new gen consoles.

For that to happen, someone would have to create interiors for every single building in the game. Also GTA isn't about destroying buildings, it's about killing people and stealing/driving cars. I would like some more destruction, but to have destructible buildings just isn't something that would fit into GTA.

so driving a tank in the middle of the city fit in GTA, but having destructible buildings dont?

nice logic right there mate hahaha

it would also be nice if my character could hop a fence, such as potshot`s 2ft fence obstructing access to my vehicle. I have f*cking ninja status ffs.

OT: This is annoying while using the 6x6 also. I would like to be able to drive it untouched by twigs and pebbles off road.

that's not entirely true, sure you could destroy pretty much any building in the game

but it was either there or it wasn't there was no actual destruction going on anywhere

you would just deplete a buildings health bar upon which it would suddenly collapse on itself (sink trough the ground hidden by a big cloud of smoke)

great game though but all this destructibility came at a cost and the world wasn't half as convincing or lively as gta san andreas (a comparable ps2 free roaming game)

so it does come at a cost

same with battlefield, sure levolution is nice, but those maps are tiny compared to gta and there's no NPC's or traffic.

in any case I do agree that things like bushes, volleyball nets and lamp poles should not be completely indestructable

but leveling entire buildings would not really fit within the game IMO and more importantly I think it would come at an unreasonable cost to other areas of the game.

Agreed. Those damn cement walls painted like bushes. The architect who designed it should be fired. I mean cement wall painted like a bush, what if a child would want to run through it?

CarnageRacing00

Certain two-post road signs need to be made destructible, I'm tires of getting stopped dead by something that should snap like a twig against the force of a moving vehicle.

therealprojectsupra

13 years after Red Faction and I still can't even blow a 6" hole in a block wall to snipe through...

I mean we should at least have destructible environments or geometry modification in a limited area like death matches or races by now.

You want GTAO to have destructible objects? Los Santos would be a flat ground in a matter of 1 hour.

And then the game would freeze forcing you too start all over.

not possible in ps3/xb360 due to hardware limitations, thats why half the bushes are concrete and half of them fold over when you drive over them. simply not enough processing power to make everything destructible. perhaps on the ps4/xb1 if they dont get lazy.

Yeah I can see that. Still can't wait for it to be available on PC. The non-winning mods that will be created will make them game a lot more fun in my opinion.

yea that version has the most capability of all, and hopefully the extended delay in releasing it means they are utilizing more of its abilities. its the version ill be getting if they balanced rendering and fixed some major unfair pvp issues, which is the most fun part for me personally.

uhm I wouldn't hold my breath for any big destructibility on next gen gta:O

definitely not this installment and I think it's unlikely to be in the next as well

it's not as easy as throwing more processing power at it and turning on destructibility or something

it's a matter of game design, it would influence EVERYTHING from story to gameplay

want a huge scripted SP, sorry can't, you blew up the building we needed for that one mission

want to play some MP, well come on in and join los santos after it's been ravaged by 16 players in tanks and jets for hours on end.

and than there's the physical design of the world, something which would have to take a huge hit in detail in order to make up for the destructibility

and with our (well not mine, the gaming community as a whole) incessant need for ever increasing graphics, It's going to be a bold company that sacrifices graphics for something like this.

though IMO there definitely need to be more of them

Join GTA:O

Spawn location: Apartment X

Spawns where the shower would be

The entire apartment is leveled

I am showering with what's left of it

Twankers cruise by, honking at me and wolf-whistling over mic

Then they blow me up and continue to spawn kill me, because there's nothing left to hide behind.

Los Santos becomes a cement dust bowl, putting the Grand Senora Desert to shame
