Rockstar should stop support for PS3 and 360 & focus on NG

GTA V is still gonna be a 9/10 for me. Even with all that extra fancy sh*t. I really don't understand what OP's going on about. I'm not upgrading although I got a ps4, xb1, pc.. Well I might pirate it ;)

Dang this is my 1st post in forever... Serious note... Please take classes in business and understand how companies like Rockstar work before you make topics like this. Please learn marketing & economic skills OP.

Ha, why the f*ck would they do that?

Not everyone can afford or wants a NG console, why would R* just gives us LG players the finger when they can make more money by still supporting us. They'll make a lot more money for the SP DLC(s) if they add them to both instead of just one.

Plus believe it or not, people actually buy cash cards. No new content = no cash cards sold.

R* is a business, businesses want your money.

I just can't understand some of you. You want content like Story DLC. Ok, but you know what? I really, really, really don't want GTA V NG/PC to be pulled back due to sh*tty PS360 hardware, got me? They have 8 YEARS OLD hardware. You CAN'T do much with that. If they put tomorrow a new DLC with 4 weapons and a car, you'll say its sh*tty and boring...that's the fanbase. Whining and bitching for the content they give you, but then cry when they no longer give you the sh*t.

Shark card will sell on NG too, so don't worry, R* knows business.

As long as they do separate stuff for LG, I'm fine. But I don't want to see a story DLC with limited features just because there are some LG users left there. R* knows marketing. We saw that for LG (people buying LG consoles to play GTA V), and we're definetly going to see the exact same thing for NG.

I think the thing you and the OP fail to realise, GTAV WAS ALREADY MADE FOR THESE CONSOLES, and the DLC WAS ALREADY PLANNED FOR THEM, the PS4/XO/PC versions are still going to be the same game, just prettier versions with some extra stuff, but there's nothing that can exactly be done in these versions that can't be done on the older versions outside of graphical touches. If anything, it'd cost Rockstar MORE money to cut off the old versions, as they've already been working on the content, you can't just turn around and say "Whatever, we don't support it now, trash that stuff we've already made LOL!".

No one is asking Rockstar to hold back their game for old hardware, but GTAV was designed for these systems and thus should be supported, by all means, yes, Rockstars next title, yeah, next Gen and PC only, of course, it's expected, we hope their next games will be designed with new hardware in focus, but GTAV is NOT a new game, it's a game that's sold 35 Million+ and is getting a re-release with touch ups on the newer systems.

I wouldn't say substantial additions to the world like new types of non-player characters (animals) are mere "graphical touches", as you describe them, but I agree with the rest of your post.

Stuff like interiors has nothing to do with console limitations, I've learned that much. However, I'm pretty sure Rockstar wouldn't go planning DLC for the last gen systems if they KNEW there were limitations that cut those plans short.

So in terms of DLC, I'm pretty sure there won't be any huge differences between last gen and new gen/PC. Well, in terms of Story DLC at least. We may get different Online updates based on how much the last gen hardware can handle.

Really though, the only time they should be considering cutting support is when the player base dwindles or starts to die out, and that won't be anytime soon.

Additional animals is more an AI to CPU thing, the last gen versions COULD handle these animals, but it would require sacrificing the animals they currently have, it's all a CPU game here, plus Rockstars way of treating Single Player DLC thus far has been bad as they've not added the cars to the actual game as spawns, they've just flung them into the Garages and called it a day whilst Online gets the proper treatment.

But yeah, really, unless the DLC planned was to include a f*cking Jumanji outbreak and requires Los Santos to be swarmed with animals, I doubt the DLC plans have changed that much, and as mentioned, interiors arn't a limitation, and the one thing we REALLY need is interiors, hopefully some night clubs, bars, etc, to make Los Santos feel a bit more alive, and last gen won't hold that back, the game is primed already waiting to accept new hooks.

I respect your opinion, but if I we take in consideration what you said about DLC's, well, why didn't they f*cking release it till now? If they sold such a big number, from which 15-20% are no longer playing the game at the moment, why didn't they just put it out? Why did they cut so many features before releasing the game? Why if it was designed for this ? Oh wait, 2014 is not over yet, we might get it on december 31st. Its clear that once NG version started developing, they changhed their minds about the content.

Oh, I don't know, maybe because they would be:

1) Killing consumer trust

2) Alienating their fanbase

3) Losing out on lots and lots of money

Etc.

This, masterfocker genius.

It would make no sense for R* to stop supporting PS3 and Xbox 360. For one, there is still millions (and much more) players than the xbox one and PS4, + why would they randomly just stop supporting the 2 consoles that originally made them billions of dollars releasing V on them? As Masterfocker said, it would literally kill the costumer trust, and not everyone has a PS4 or Xboner one.

It would be a bad business decision, and alot of people would get mad. God, if it did happen: The creative team, Houser brothers, and the other people in R* would be known as the worlds biggest cocaine sniffers ( if that even makes any human logic at all. It doesn't.)

this is the stupidest idea i have heard in... ever. Rockstar cant afford to unsupport last gen. we have control over them. if we all just stop playing, they will lose so much money that they will have to bring out some amazing dlc for us.

Contrary to popular belief, console limitations are not the reason for cut features. They were probably removed because they wouldn't have made much sense in the game, or because Rockstar wanted to include them in a future DLC, or because they wanted to make them next-gen exclusive. There are many possible reasons. But console limitations? Nah.

It makes sense to not include new breeds of animals on the PS3 and 360. Same goes for the graphical enhancements, the improved AI, and other features that are demanding on the CPU, the GPU and the hardware in general. Rockstar pretty much pushed the old consoles to their absolute limits. There is only so much you can do with 8 and 9 years old hardware.

However, console limitations don't apply to things like vigilante missions, drug dealing side-missions, basketball, weight lifting, pool, random encounters, weapons, vehicles, and many more. These things are scripted and there is no reason to not include them, other than the reasons I stated at the start of my post.

Simply put, you will need to ask Rockstar as to why they decided to cut dozens of features that would probably have made the game feel more complete than it currently is.

On another note, I disagree with the point the topic creator made. Rockstar will eventually drop support for the PS360 systems, but they really don't need to now. They just sold over 35 million copies of one game. And they are about to re-release it for two more platforms in November, plus one more platform in January. It's clear that they developed GTAV with the last/current-gen consoles in mind. What would be the point in stopping the support for the older platforms? They would make less money with said DLCs, because those wouldn't release for the PS360 then, the platforms the game was sold for over 35 million times to this day.

Oh and the biggest thing so far is the fact that NG console market is still in its premature stage although its rapidly growing, it's extremely unlikely they're going to sell 10 million copies in a very short amount of time, so thats another thing to consider. A lot of people are not going to either buy it at all, will take time to upgrade to the game or buy it used or some sh*t like that. There's many factors that are putting the LG consoles to a bigger advantage.

Why is this still being discussed?

It's an absolutely awful idea, OP has no idea about business, and it's never going to happen.

So, in short form, supporting last generation consoles with dlc and updates are detrimental to the (yet to be released) remastered versions on new hardware, and also holding back gaming in general?

This is argued from a console user.....oh the irony.

If i where to say console gaming in general have been dragging down quality for years for the PC platform with subpar, poorly optimized releases with limited multiplayer [and so forth], you would tear me a new one, wouldn't you?

You'be right to do so, as it's a moronic point of view, it is pointless to argue what devs should do(obviously to suit the glorios masterrace, or you and others of similar superior intellect that upgrades console hardware on release), the market decides what would be done, always.

Amusing discussion to read, even though I am convinced it is mostly trolling.

No, I would agree with you that the PC version should be the best version of the game.

But the gap between the PC version that isn't modded and the PS4 or XboxOne version is not going to be the same gap as the PS3 version compared to the PS4 version for example.

Why is this discussion still going. Only an asshole company would pull such a stunt, and that wouldn't be smart as they'd be missing out on money.

Do you honestly think that in 2 years when more and more people buy a next gen console and when the prices drop somewhat that a lot of people will still be playing the PS3 or Xbox 360 version online?

wake up... people are still playing gta2 mulitiplayer

Fair enough, i'm sure it will be. But it's very unlikely that future games released will focus solely on highend optimization on PC, there's quite a dropoff from high end to budget gaming PC's when it comes to performance, also this market is prone to issues that would not be as proliferant on consoles. I admit i wish the ceiling would be reached for, but it would not be profitable to release expensive software to a small percentage of costumers that has the appropriate hardware.

And stopping support to ps3/360 prematurely would be an insult to costumers and might devastate rockstars public relation. I doubt they're that dense up top. Perhaps sony/microsoft pulls the plug on the psn/live support before this, might happen.

And consoles don't hold back gaming....they generate profit for developers which in turn is invested in new projects, progressing the industry. Porting games halfassed between platforms, on the other hand, warrants critisism.

I am sorry to revive this thread, but I joined these forums to voice my opinion on the matter with a related experience. After playing Diablo 3 for more than six months, and greatly anticipating DLC in the future, I was severely disappointed to find out that I not only had a useless copy of the original game, but that if I were to continue playing on the PS3 I would be out of any future updates even with an updated copy. I did not find this out until the other day, and I was very close to purchasing the expansion. I am very glad I did not and have decided to never buy anything from Blizzard in the future for there is a chance they will quickly kick me to the curb if needed. If Rockstar does the same with GTA V, then I will do the same with them. Unfortunately I bought V from the PSN, which was a mistake in hindsight, so I cannot sell it like I did with D3. Lesson learned I suppose.

Old gen glitches are there on current gen, too, so finding glitches in oldgen benefits current gen too.

Honestly they might update it for a while. But eventually they will stop for various reasons, examples: lack of space, future DLC'S might need more power than the older gen's can handle or lack of players because a lot of people moving to new gen so they concentrate their efforts on the many and not the few.

I'll have the enhanced versions as well as the current versions but no, they shouldn't. You don't just stop supporting all the loyal customers who bought the initial version of the game. Of course the enhanced versions will no doubt continue to receive support for longer but to just stop improvements on the current version now? No, that would be too much of a kick in the balls.

^we are not,i like the next guy love GTA5 on the PS3/XB360 and will love them to continue supporting both consoles, but at one stage that would stop (Sadly) just because the hardwares on those consoles have become classics and outdated.

Please cut support, I'm so tired of r* patching sh*t and killing my fun.

The cars, weapons and possible future sp content, you can keep it! Bring back nos and the goddamn gate glitch!

I hate online, so I only play sp, I could careless if a glitch effect's online.

Patch ng and let the fan boyz circle jerk each other and blow r* for a while longer.

I could care honestly less! As long as they give me a PC version, which would by the time have all the content of current versions of this game (both gens!) then i'm fine!...
