Rockstar should stop support for PS3 and 360 & focus on NG

Yeah, the PS3 and 360 can barely support it. Keep the game running, but, no more dlc. Its gonna come that way sooner or later anyway.

Rockstar Games has already confirmed that they will continue to develop Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Also, the Story Mode Update and GTA Online Heists have been announced before the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game, so it wouldn't make any sense to not release them for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Yes, why waste resources to keep the game running for an extra 6 months it's obvious that sooner or later the PS3 and 360 will be obsolete and so will be the older version of the game. If R* really wows people and puts in a lot of improvements like they have promised for the next generation versions of the game, why would anyone want to play the old version of the game? If they are willing to pay money and support R* and buy new DLC, why wouldn't they be willing to pay money and buy the new version ( keep in mind if they are serious about buying and playing new video games they are going to eventually upgrade the consoles they own anyway ) by this point next year for all we know the PS4 and Xbox one could have as many active players as the 360 and PS3 do.

But why haven't they been released and why haven't we heard any new information on them? Maybe R* realized that if they hold off and release it on the next gen versions of the game, they could release a better product and have less limitations and also give people a reason to buy the new versions of the game.

Dude, you're an idiot, you sound like some butthurt console fanboy who got tricked into buying a PS4/Xbox One and now notice that there's no games for them, so now you're bitching that Rockstar of all people should give the finger to 35 Million+ Customers just because you want a reason to justify your purchase.

Rockstar themselves said that they can't suport the 12 gig ps3 after 1.16. I mean, it doesn't concern me, i got both, so Im not worried, just from a stand point for new DLC on PS3, 360, it would be easier for them to focus on next gen, while working on bug fixes for the last gen.

It can't support the 12GB PS3 because, ...THERE'S ONLY f*ckING 12GB ON THE THING. It's Rockstars way of saying "from here on out, DLC packs are getting bigger". Come on bfett21, I know you're not THAT stupid.

edit: Let me actually break this down for you...

Grand Theft Auto V - Requires a Mandatory 8GB Install

There's 8GB Gone already

There's been 16 patches since then, each averaging around 80MB to 120MB, let's say each one is 100MB to keep it tidy.

That's 1.6GB more used up, we're now at 9.6GB.

By comparison, TLAD and TBOGT were 1.9GB and 2.0GB, so if a DLC as large as those were to come by, it's already pushed past the amount of space on that console.

Not forgetting formatting and what the console has to store on board to, THAT'S why they can't support it anymore.

If you got the Digital Download version of the game, you couldn't even play it on a 12GB PS3 as the game needs 17.2GB.

I own both a PS3 and PS4, and have hardly played the PS3 and GTA V since buying the PS4. If you own a PS4 you could easily see how much better and the difference between past gen games are ( within the first year without much development time between for games ).

PS3 struggles to run GTA V at 28 FPS at 720P resolution, with almost no traffic, and the same 3 cars spawning all over the place ( the TV's native resolution that I use is 1080P so down scaling also causes some extra input lag and makes the game blurrier and worse looking ) basically the PS3 version started to feel obsolete when I got my PS4.

Also R* has already stated how they want people to be blown away by the new versions of GTA V, the game has already been shown to have a lot of new technological features that the older generation versions couldn't have.

Why shouldn't R* focus all of their effort on the better version of the game, that will probably be the only version that people are playing within a year or two anyway. Why bother to keep supporting the old obsolete version? Why is it that Sony has moved on and hardly releases any new updates for the PS3 anymore as opposed to the PS4? The PS3 has the larger install base right?

Ok let's look beyond that console limitation.

Almost all new HDTV's now are 1080P native resolution.

GTA V on PS3, 360 are not 1080P Native resolution, this means a downscale, which means blurrier worse graphics and more input lag.

GTA V cannot maintain even 30 FPS, this increases input lag and makes the game feel less smooth and worse to play.

GTA V has this issue of the same cars spawning.

GTA V has longer and longer load times.

0_0.jpg

And many more issues.

These are issues that are not able to be fixed, by a patch they are from hardware limitations. If they release story DLC for both the old and new versions of the game, the PS3 360 version would either have to be different and majorly downgraded, or the new versions of the game would get bottlenecked hard by the old version which would be bad for business as it would not give people an incentive to buy the new version of the game.

You mean upscaling dumb ass, 1280x720 to 1920x1080 requires an up scale, a downscale would actually improve visual quality but the render needs to be above 1920x1080 for that to happen here.

GEE, I DON'T KNOW, WHY WOULD A CONSOLE MAKER BE PUSHING THEIR NEW HARDWARE? MAYBE YOU CAN SHINE SOME LIGHT ONTO THAT GREAT MYSTERY, oh wise one.

Man, you really are throwing out some great quotes right now, you don't understand jack sh*t at all do you, please, keep going, I want to see more from you.

edit: I love it, you can't even tell the difference between upscale and downscale, what, did you just read your first AV Tech report and wanted to pretend to be a big boy here? hahaha.

All people complaining, its not our or Rockstar's fault for you being broke, poor or what ever else. Ok im not rich nor poor and im currently saving up for new PC and even if im not getting it untill next summer i dont care because im patient. PS3 and X360 are almost 10 years old, their hardwares are no longer able to sustain more contents. I dont think Rockstar will stop support last gen, but, fact might be, PS3 and X360 will be getting less, which means only maybe few new vehicles, weapons and clothes will be available for all platforms but when it comes to something bigger new gen and PC will be the ones to have it only. Game developers will stop supporting PS3 and X360 by next year. PS4 and Xbone have been out almost for year now and you had the chanse so save up money for all that time. Unfortunately you will be complaining, but, move on and continue with latest.

Wrong, they need to work on both. The only difference is the last gen will be limited in terms of updates and DLC's.

Ok fine, my TV display tends to show the resolution as 1080P but when I play GTA V it shows 720P, I would have figured it would have been down scaling based off of that you got me on that one.

Either way, my point still stands that the game is not at the native resolution of most modern TV's, when I play GTA V compared to just about every other game it looks significantly worse on this TV, it's blurry, text is harder to read, and it is laggier on a 720P TV it plays better.

My basic point of this thread, is why bother to release new updates and try to keep a game up to date that is going to be so technologically inferior to the new versions? Especially when the new versions of the game need incentives that will make average people ( beyond the average person who just cares about graphics ) want to buy it?

From a business standpoint and a technological standpoint supporting GTA V on the PS3 and Xbox 360 any more and releasing a story mode DLC in the middle of next year when a much larger group of people will have moved on from the PS3 and Xbox 360 to the new consoles doesn't make much sense.

Keep in mind that by the time that GTA V is out on the PS4/Xboxone/PC it will be January of next year already. If they aren't releasing major DLC at the release of the new versions of the game ( chances are if they were, they would have announced it by now ) it will probably come towards the middle of 2015. By the middle of 2015, you will be looking at close to 2 years of the Xboxone/PS4 veing out, 10 years of the 360 being out, 2 years of the original release of GTA V, and a half year of the release of GTA V on the new versions of the game. That is more then enough time for the people who are serious about playing and buying video games to upgrade.

Almost no new games will be released for the Xbox 360 next year, and the ones that do are games are probably going to be typical end of console life movie sort of games, or re releases of sports games that were made years ago with a roster update.

Why do you guys think that EA Sports has moved onto the next gen so quickly, with Madden, NHL, and FIFA being the same games as last year on last gen consoles just with a roster update, where as the actual new features are only for the next gen versions? They realize the old gen consoles are obsolete and that they are trying to build a base on the new consoles.

VERY SIMPLE REASONS:

1) They've already promised the content to LG Players BEFORE these versions were even announced, it would make Rockstar become a full on c*nt if they pulled a card that not even EA or Activision would do, to turn around and say "Yes, buy it on PS3 and 360, we'll provide updates, single player DLC and eventually Heists" to then say a few weeks later "YO f*ck YOU BITCH ASS BROKE NIGGAS, BUY A PS4 OR XBOX ONE AND BUY THE GAME AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO BUY THE DLC!", would pretty much earn a huge back lash of hate and negativity that Rockstar really don't need, they may be arrogant, but they wouldn't be THAT arrogant to piss off their own fan base of people who BOUGHT the game.

2) 35 Million+ people already own the game, the chances are they will most likely be ok with throwing down an extra $10 or $20 to grab some DLC for the game when it comes out, so it's easy money in a very large pool of players who supported them first time around. There is a much higher chance of getting a profit when you already have 35 Million ready to buy the DLC as opposed to cutting them off and trying to convince them to buy a new console, AND RE-BUY the game, AND THEN buy the DLC.

If you can't grasp that, you're literally a f*cking moron.

Maybe R* expected to put these DLC or heist out on the older versions of the game, but realized that they weren't able to get the experience they wanted or it would be better to hold off.

Also keep in mind that R* has released a lot of free DLC, they have held up their end of the bargain on everything but the heists, and with the improvements to online that the new versions will bring it would make sense that they could have held back on the heists and changed it up so they could use the increased player count to make them better. Keep in mind that R* hadn't even announced a next gen version of the game was coming, so when they announced that they would release information on heists and story mode DLC later in the year ( which they never actually really released those updates and they announced this back around the High life update in April or May ) maybe they meant that the heists and story mode DLC updates would have been released with the next gen updates or that they decided to change it and didn't want to tell people since they hadn't announced the next gen game yet.

For the 35 million people who own the game and some would be willing to buy some DLC... maybe R* has a plan for the DLC that is something that the Xbox 360 or PS3 version cannot do, when they say they want to blow people away maybe they are planning that what they can do with the DLC is what makes people want to buy a new console, what makes people want to rebuy the game, remember that SONY showcased GTA V at their event for all you know they could have a deal with R* for some sort of DLC that would make people go out and buy a PS4 just to play it.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was made for the 360 and PS3. It was the company's last Hoo Raa for the consoles. Yes the game is gonna be 10 times better on the new gens, but that takes nothing away from what they have already done. GTAV took countless man hours to develop by thousands of people, and they were happy with how it turned out. Turning there back on the 360/PS3 now would be like building a model car, painting it then throwing it in a fire.

No, because they built off the PS3 and 360 version, the new version is the one that is closer to what R* intended to release. The old version like all old technology will be obsolete, if a company releases new software why support the old software that it released over a year ago?

If they stop support for last-gen, then that's fine by me, I just won't play it anymore.

They won't do that. Only some extra stuff for new gen.

First, R* has already supported the game for over a year most games do not get that amount of support, free DLC and patches.

Which is why Rockstar is my favorite developer. Cause they actually give a sh*t. I don't care about "most games."

Second of all, anyone who has played a next gen game can easily realize how much better the new consoles are. They can support better graphics, better frame rates, better controls, better physics, better AI, more realistic worlds, more things going on at once, when GTA V came out on the PS3 the first half a year that I played it I was wowed and thought it was a technological masterpiece after getting my PS4 and not playing it for a few months it was very hard to come back to, because of issues like the frame rate, lack of varied traffic, and not much pedestrians or traffic around.

Thanks for your anedoctal experience. It does not apply to me or many others. I have a pretty good gaming PC that runs games better than a ps4 will. I have 200+ games on Steam. My #1 game to play is GTA V on the ps3.

Third of all, eventually just about everyone who likes to play video games and likes GTA will upgrade. If your so much of a GTA fan that your posting on here and upset about missing features in the PS3 version chances are you are either going to quit playing video games all together, or will upgrade your console or computer. Chances are the PS3 or Xbox 360 won't be the last console you own. Do you honestly think that in 2 years when more and more people buy a next gen console and when the prices drop somewhat that a lot of people will still be playing the PS3 or Xbox 360 version online? Is it even a lock that Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 will still be around within 2 more years?

No. Nope. A lot of people are not wiling to double-dip. A lot of people have bills to pay and, because video games are entertainment (i.e., a privilge), they are not willing to give out $500 for an upgraded version of a game they already own. And in regards to the bolded part, see Halo 2. Or, take a look at just how long San Andreas was being sold to retailers.

Fourth of all, the next generation version is closer to the true vision of what R* wanted to make in the first place. It should have all the support possible as it's the version of the game that people are going to be playing until the next GTA comes out. It should have as many new features, as many bugs fixed, and as many additions as possible.

I don't see how this contradicts adding new features to last-gen versions too. Rockstar could hire a legion of strippers on 401ks and full medical insurance to sing them poetry. Keeping a couple of devs around to update the last-gen versions isn't going to bring back The Black Plague.

TL;DR: stahp, OP.

Not reading... so maybe you touch upon what I'm going to say. But you're an idiot....

Why would R* stop supporting current gen? Millions of people are going to keep playing... which means they are going to keep buying shark cards as long as new content is coming out for it.

Eventually a few years from now they might stop supporting it. Really though... bookmark this page and title it "open in 3 years" and you'll see that I'm right.

I see no reason to drop support for the current versions given that the type of updates they've released over the last year seem easily scalable to both generations. That's what they've been doing all along as they made the updates except the next-gen versions weren't released.

The main change in next-gen is more complex visual effects, more visual detail is filled in and more NPCs can spawn. The actual GAME is not changing and both gens will have the same gameplay. It's just going to look better and busier on next gen.

Support for last-gen should be based on how many people are playing last-gen.

How about... no... because of, perhaps, 35 million people?

Can we get this thread locked now?

I second this.

You just said you have an expensive high powered gaming PC so it's only $60 or whatever the cost is to buy the re release.

Not $500 to double dip. Unless someone only ever plays GTA V or doesn't play video games or new games anymore, chances are they would have eventually upgrade their hardware anyway, that's not a valid argument.

Absolutely not.

Rockstar owes it to all the millions that bought this game on last gen to support it as much as possible. That means getting those heists out and finally announcing some substantial Story Mode DLC. If player numbers dwindle some time after all of that is released, dropping support would be a sensible course of action.

No reason whatsoever to just abandoned an install base that's still ripe with active players.
