Flachbau
As we are nearing the announcement and possible 2014/early 2015 release of the Nexus 6, I got the idea to open up an official topic to discuss all Nexus devices. including smart phones and tablets. Lately, a "leak" has appeared, which includes an image of the new Nexus. Take this with a grain of salt, because we don't know it if is legitimate or fake. It resembles Motorola's devices so much (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, their Moto G & X are durable). Check out the image below. ---------- ---------- What do you say? Will you be purchasing the next Nexus device? Are you waiting for the next Nexus tablet? Let us know! Edited October 1, 2014 by Android
Gdog
looks like i'll just be picking up a nexus 5. really don't like the look of the moto x. i wish LG was still doing the nexus. oh well. Flachbau
Girish
Should have stuck with LG. I don't want my Nexus looking like a Moto X. Still, I'll reserve my judgement until we have a confirmation on what it would actually look like. I definitely intend on getting my hands on the Nexus 6 though. It's the only reason why I haven't upgraded from my Nexus 4 yet. Flachbau
Flachbau
I really like the look of the Nexus 5, especially because of the back. Its really nice in the hands and it doesn't slide out of them or anything. A lot of phones don't have covers like that. As for Motorola making the new Nexus, I can't really give an opinion. It would be nice if a US carrier sold the Moto G and X in their stores, but I don't think it'll happen any time soon.
Gdog
the moto g/x are damn good phones. i have a moto g but i don't like the curved back and with the new models i don't like the dual speaker thing they have going on the front of the phone. the nexus 6 will be a great phone but just really don't like the way it looks based on this image. FranklinDeRoosevelt
Looking forward to this powerhouse of a phone. Much specs, high PPI, dat battery. But this design is ugly as f*ck, even if its not real. I do not want to see Motorola fix something that is not broken. Nexus 5 design is beautiful. LG why the f*ck did you abandon it? Flachbau
Holy sh*t.. http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/25/so-is-this-shamu-motorolas-nexus-looking-massive-next-to-a-g3/ So, is This Motorola’s “Shamu” Nexus Looking All Sorts of Massive Next to a G3? Umm, I don’t know if it is. Either way, the phone pictured is a massive Moto X-looking phone next to the LG G3, which is already a massive phone, and absolutely stomping all over it. Is this the Motorola Nexus aka “Shamu” aka Nexus 6 aka Whale Wars aka Free Willy aka please-don’t-make-this-Google-it’s-too-freaking-massive? You tell us. Edit: Apparently, the photo showed up in our comments and Android Police’s at some point this morning. The anonymous “Guest” claims that it is coming to Verizon. Interesting, to say the least. I still don’t know what to make of it. So I guess the whole leak thing was true. Very interesting, to say the least. Flachbau
http://www.androidauthority.com/shamu-image-about-phone-530892/ Yet another alleged image of Shamu, this time shows off ‘about phone’ page Yesterday we reported on the first alleged image of Motorola’s “Shamu” phablet, in which the handset was spotted next to the LG G3. Now we have another pic, this time focusing on the front of the phone and giving us a look at the “About Phone” page. While it isn’t too easy to make out the phone in this image, an adjusted version with the levels turned up shows that the device has the same shape as yesterday’s Moto leak and also has the “M” logo on the front. Turning to the details on the about phone page, Shamu appears to be running an AOSP build of Android L, and it is apparently running a Google-made kernel as well ([email protected]). Since the kernel is directly from Google, this at least indicates that Mountain View may be directly involved with this handset, even if we still can’t say with any certainty whether or not Shamu will be released as a member of the Nexus family What do you think, like the idea or a 5.9-inch Nexus or not? If Shamu really is a Nexus device, do you think Google will release a smaller version as well, or at least keep the Nexus 5 around to sell alongside this monster? GreatGig
Personally, I love the sound of this phone. After having a Note 3 for some time, going to something smaller makes me feel like I'm losing out. I do hope they have something smaller lined up though because I know a lot of folks who'd hate the size and they'd lose quite a large chunk of the market. I'm curious about Android L, too. I haven't really heard much aside from its new design. I have the Chrome Beta installed and that gives a pretty nice glimpse of what we can expect (though they really need to put the refresh button back at the top instead of the bloody menu). I kind of like the Moto design, too, but then again, I don't really take design into consideration because I know most of it will be covered by a case. I like the idea of stereo speakers on the front as well. The Note's bottom facing speaker is pretty pathetic sometimes.
FranklinDeRoosevelt
5.9" sounds way too big. The nexus 5 had the perfect size of 5.4 inches so I reckon 5.5 inch would have been good. I like the idea of stereo speakers on the front as well. The Note's bottom facing speaker is pretty pathetic sometimes. I have to agree with you on that. I went from a 5.2 inch screen and I dropped down to 5.0 (or I think it's 5.1) on the Galaxy S5, and I have to say, every centimeter and inch counts. Ha, I thought I was the only one who hated the fact that they moved the refresh button. It's not such a tedious task to tap into an extra menu, but I would like it to be put pack where it was originally. The Moto design is very interesting indeed. The back looks like it's very durable and it seems as if the texture is similar to the one featured on the Nexus 5. 5.9" sounds way too big. The nexus 5 had the perfect size of 5.4 inches so I reckon 5.5 inch would have been good. But lets wait and see, everything else sounds great, especially Android L. Many people have said the same thing abut Samsung's new Note 4 device and Apple's new iPhone, also. I think 5.7 should be the biggest size any companies should use. Nothing larger. Also, to correct you, the Nexus 5's display was 4.95 inches. The best thing about the Nexus line is that you can still grab a N4 or N5 and it'll still hold up to today's standards in mobile devices. ---------- http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/22/6819129/google-nexus-9-is-made-by-htc-and-coming-very-soon Google's Nexus 9 is made by HTC and coming very soon HTC hasn't made a tablet since 2011 or a Nexus device since 2010, but pretty soon both lacunas will be brought to an end by the launch of a new device: the Nexus 9. Rumored over the summer and confirmed by The Wall Street Journal's sources today, the Nexus 9 tablet will mark a revival of the Google-HTC partnership that produced the original Nexus One device. The Journal says that HTC engineers have been flying back and forth between Mountain View and their Taiwanese base as the two companies collaborate on the development of the new 9-inch device. Earlier this month, a patent lawsuit filed by Nvidia against Qualcomm and Samsung mentioned that "the HTC Nexus 9,expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1." Once that note was spotted, however, the document was swiftly revised to expunge the Nexus 9's name, with the current complaint on Nvidia's website carrying a later stamp of September 11th. Even without the WSJ's corroboration today, therefore, there's sufficient evidence of the Nexus 9's existence and upcoming release. Knowing that it'll be powered by the K1 processor also suggests that it'll be closer in nature to the high-end Nexus 10 built by Samsung than the more budget-conscious Nexus 7 line from Asus. JUST IN TIME FOR ANDROID L, HERE COMES A HIGH-END TABLET TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT The imminent release of the Nexus 9 has also been confirmed by sources speaking to The Verge. No further specs or details are known for sure just yet, but it's reasonable to expect Google will unveil its new tablet alongside the full public release of the big Android L update. Announced at Google I/O in June and scheduled to be available in the fall, Android L marks a major visual redesign for Google's mobile OS, and the Nexus 9 — designed by HTC and underpinned by a very capable processor — sounds like a fitting device to show off the new software in all its glory
FranklinDeRoosevelt
Thanks for correcting me. All I did was google the size of Nexus 5 and it said 5.4 inches somewhere, I read the wrong measurement I guess Anyway, I would like to see HTC make a tablet nexus. HTC's software is f*cking brilliant. And the build quality would be impressive at the same time. Seems like Nexus is starting to get the special treatment Flachbau
Flachbau
I love HTC's design. Very elegant and premium. I kinda hope it's made out of metal or aluminium, but then again, I don't want a tablet to weigh so much. We'll see ---------- http://www.androidauthority.com/next-gen-nexus-hardware-529418/ Exclusive: Next-gen Nexus hardware to be unveiled in mid-October, Android L hits November 1st Just last week Paul O’ Brien mentioned a possible release date for the rumored HTC Nexus 9, October 16th. While he admitted the information came from an anonymous tipster, the Android developer is well respected and likely not to post up a date unless he has good reason to believe it. In short, his statement lended quite a bit of credence to the idea of a mid-October unveiling. Looking for more details on the matter? Thanks to two different sources familiar with Google’s plans, we have learned that the HTC Nexus 9 will be unveiled on either October 15th or the 16th. Additionally there is mention of new phone hardware (possibly the rumored Moto Nexus?) and the unveiling of “a new software initiative”, which likely refers to Android L’s final release. "Thanks to two different sources familiar with Google’s plans, we have learned that the HTC Nexus 9 will be unveiled on either October 15th or the 16th" While Android L and new Nexus hardware will be shown off in mid-October, the final version of Android L won’t officially be available until November 1st, according to our sources. Keep in mind it’s unclear whether that’s when the latest Nexus hardware with Android L will be sold (or shipped?), when existing Nexus devices will get the update, or both. Either way, the wait for Android L and the next generation of the Nexus family appears to almost be over! Even though we are rather confident of the validity of the information disclosed above, dates can change and even the most reliable intel can sometimes prove false — so speculation is still advised. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more, so be sure to stay tuned to Android Authority.
Nick1020
My question is do you think Google will charge the Nexus 6 at 350 to 400? Anywho I agree with Grish, if the rumours are true. The Moto G design isn't bad, LG's design is more appealing than Motorola in my opinion.
FranklinDeRoosevelt
No way, they're going to charge 450 for it, which already would be an amazing price considering the INSANE specs it has, and knowing that it will have excellent optimization hopefully, they need to sell their products and make a big profit margin at the same time, I think that's part of the reason why LG opted out of the nexus series. Solid it too cheap. To be honest, it will still do damn well if it sold for 500. That would still beat absolutely any competition out there. Flachbau
Honestly, if the newer Nexus costs $399-499, I wouldn't mind spending that much. Phones are getting really expensive these days but if its such a great device then why not? The best part is, once the N6 releases, the N5 will be even cheaper. It still holds up. So does the N4. El Dildo
for people saying it's too big. it's not too big. you're wrong. I've got the Galaxy Note 3 which everyone said was too big when I got it, and now everyone and their f*cking mom wants one. I freakin' love the thing; it's one of the best electronic devices I've ever owned and it's because of the size and functionality. as a phone I can still do everything I need in the palm of one hand. as a smart device, it's practically like having a small computer on you at all times. even the stylus is awesome. it's like having a mouse pointer when you want to navigate through the OS even quicker than with just your finger. the size is perfect. my Note 3 has virtually replaced my full size laptop... Flachbau
Yeah, nobody really liked big devices until they tried them out themselves. I wasn't really into them. My first smartphone was a Huawei Ascend II and it was like 4 inches or something. I got the LG G2 after that, and I just couldn't believe the amazing experiences I had. I really like the Note 3 because of the elegant design. Sure, it's mostly plastic, but it looks great. The stylus is efficient for writing notes, drawing, etc - and I just praise Samsung for making a phone line up dedicated to that. I've had two phones in the similar screen size zone, and I wouldn't mind expanding. 5.9 can't be that bad.

GreatGig
for people saying it's too big. it's not too big. you're wrong. g Not to start some sort of argument here, but they're not "wrong". It's subjective. I love my Note 3 and won't be going to anything smaller afterwards, but my girlfriend thinks it's way too big. She's spent a lot of time playing with it, she loves it, but she just doesn't like the size. She prefers her 4.7" Xperia. So whilst many people like having huge screens, others don't, but that doesn't make them wrong. On a more related note, I realised today that my upgrade will come around about a year from now so I think I'll get an excellent deal on this phone (unless there's a newer version by then). If not, I'm excited to see what tech we'll have a year from now. Will screens be bigger and all have curves? Will waterproofing be standard? So many questions. FranklinDeRoosevelt
Man. I just cannot dig the design of the Nexus 6. It's like a direct clone of the Moto X with much better specs. However, since it's 5.9 inch, I'll have to physically see it when it comes out. But the Nexus 9 looks crazy good. Amazing job HTC! Flachbau
This Guy Seems To Be Using Motorola's Nexus 6 While Commuting Just a couple of days ago, we posted a quick look at what the next Nexus phone would look like (along with some spec confirmations), based on new information and materials we had seen. That image however, as stated before, was just a reproduction of what we'd seen (redrawn to protect our source and eliminate any possible identifiers). Today, though, we have what looks like a photo of the device. Of course, we've seen alleged photos of this phone before, but one only showed the back, and one was very poorly lit. This photo, by contrast, is as well lit as we can possibly expect from a leaked photo, and shows the front of the device aligning with everything we've seen/posted so far. Here it is. Update: Our tipster gave us one more photo after our post went live. This one shows the left side of the device, and the bottom speaker is a bit more visible. We've touched up the photo above to blur any identifying markers So what can we see here? The phone is obviously in a snap-on case of some sort, so we don't have a look at the complete edge, but what we can see aligns with our previous posts - the power and volume buttons are positioned more toward the middle of the device (to account for its large size), front facing speakers (the bottom one is a bit hard to see), a center-aligned headphone jack, and Android L with new solid status bar icons and smaller, more spaced-out navigation buttons that we've seen a couple of times now. There is one more icon in the status bar, though (besides the WiFi indicator) - a heart. We aren't sure if this is a notification from some third party app, or if it has to do with something Googley installed on the device (our only guess would be Google Fit), but it's there. If you have any ideas, let us know. Something else you might notice is that the device in the photo actually doesn't look that big. The perspective of the photo and lack of other phones (or nearby objects) for reference makes it hard to tell, but the hand in the photo is holding the device somewhere near the middle-bottom, with fingers barely reaching halfway up around the back. At any rate, we are still confident this is the Nexus 6 and that its display will be 5.9" as multiple sources (including our own) have confirmed. With rumors putting Shamu's launch date anywhere between mid October and early November, we shouldn't have long to wait until we can see the device in an official capacity (and better lighting). Thanks, Anon! FranklinDeRoosevelt
Flachbau
moar renders! http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6-render-back-532594/ The rumors and leaks related to the so-called Nexus 6 keep on coming. Not only have we seen the device show up in an unofficial render of the phone’s front and several blurry photos, earlier today the first clear image of the device “in the wild” was spotted. Up until now, all the back images we’ve seen have bore the Motorola logo but no Nexus branding, leading some to speculate that either Shamu isn’t a Nexus device or we just haven’t seen the final design. Now a new unofficial render comes to us thanks to Droid Life, giving us a look at the handset with both Motorola and Nexus branding represented. It is important to note that DL made these images, though they reportedly designed them based off of info they received with the site stating they are reasonably confident that the back images are correct. Of course until Google or Motorola tells us otherwise, we’d take the above (and below) designs with a grain of salt. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6-verizon-533276/ Get out your salt shakers ladies and gents, as a new report from Pocket Now claims that they have received word that Verizon will be among the carriers that will stock the Motorola Nexus 6. Yes, the carrier that handled the Galaxy Nexus so poorly and hasn’t done much better with the Nexus 7 (2013) either. Verizon isn’t exactly known as being dev/modder friendly, and is easily one of the worst US carriers in this regard. Still, it’s also the biggest and (arguably) most popular US carrier thanks to impressive coverage range, so anything is possible. Pocket Now’s source doesn’t divulge anything about pricing or availability, only saying that Verizon is “ready to embrace the next Nexus phone, and is gearing-up to add the Nexus 6 to its selection of devices.” As we mentioned straight from the beginning, speculation is highly advised and if you are a Verizon customer we certainly wouldn’t recommend that you get your hopes up just yet. Still, if the Nexus 6 is coming to Big Red, would you be interested in picking it up? Do you think Google would be willing to give Big Red another chance at carrying a Nexus phone? Flūttershy
Unlike most people here, I'd be absolutely stoked if this phone was made by Motorola. The new Moto X is a really premium device in the hand and I think it looks fantastic, so anything based off of that phone is great in my eyes. As for the 5.9 inch screen, the virtual elimination of one handed use would be a downside but at the same time large-screened phones are awesome and really useful. Can't wait for this phone, looks like a superb upgrade from my Nexus 4. Though personally, I hope it has a 1080p screen instead of a 1440p one. The device having to push so many more pixels will take a toll on both battery life and performance, and the sharpness between the two resolutions is virtually indistinguishable on any screen smaller than 6 or 7 inches. Flachbau
I think the Moto X looks great. I am a fan of the design. A bigger one would make me happier, in this case, the Nexus 6. As for the screen resolution, the LG G3 also has a 1440p display. People praise the battery in it (I believe it's 3000mAh or so) and I don't hear about anything with drainage issues. Flūttershy
The LG G3 may still be able to achieve decent battery life, but it would last even longer without the 1440p screen. Why settle a battery that lasts one day and a virtually useless 1440p screen when you can have a 1080p screen that allows the same exact battery to last closer to 2 days? Flachbau
I understand your point. I don't think it's time to upgrade to 1440p yet, because there's not much content that supports that. I'm all for a camera that records in 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, though. FranklinDeRoosevelt
1440p is a very useless gimmick right now. If they are opting for an even higher resolution, then Motorola are retarded as f*ck. 1080p, 500 PPI please. Nothing more, nothing less. Still can't dig the design as I prefer Nexus 5 design and the fact this looks like a giant clone of the Moto X, but whatever anyway.
