GTA IV ERROR - Unrecoverable Fault SMPA60

Here's the deal -

 

I just downloaded GTA IV and Episodes for PC (meaning purchased from Steam). I have no mods installed, none at all!

 

After hours of frustration with the 50 layers of DRM this game has, I finally manage to play - and about 20 minutes in of buttert-smooth gameplay - an Unrecoverable Fault.

 

Googling tells me this is a modding issue. Searching here says the same, however I have no mods installed.

 

Any ideas?

As you have downloaded the Steam version I am sure that the version is patched up to 1.0.7.0 so that can't be the problem

You also have mentioned that you have no Mods which can be a common cause of your problem but saved game errors can cause this also. Have you considered restarting game and creating new save - just an idea to eliminate obvious

 

What system specs do you have and what graphics settings do you have in game?

 

I can tell you that after 4 years of playing this game on a variety of PC including my latest rig (in sig), I do occasionally get this problem when racing via multiplayer but it is very very rare

8GB RAM

 

Graphic Settings are notched up to a little below max.

Those specs run the game fine so no problems there - What OS are you running?

 

Have you tried a restart of the game and new save file?

This is strange because as you mentioned, 99.9% of the time it is because of a certain modded file creating this problem but you have not modded the game

Does it do it every time you play or is it random?

I would also recommend perhaps turning down your graphic options and seeing what effect that has on the frequency of the error

 

Also consider a deletion and reinstall of the game - I doubt your download got corrupted but always best to eliminate the obvious
