Missions that were harder than you expected

Lethal Vaccine

I don't remember the name, but it's the Vice City Stories mission where you have to knock down the police satellites with a rocket launcher while avoiding the cops. That f*cking mission made me rage quit like two times until I finally got lucky. Didn't matter if I went to Pay n' Spray, stars kept going up. The f*ckin' rocket launcher didn't hit the target half the time. The fact that the wanted level gets to the point where they'll set your car on fire within seconds but the PSP's hardware can only handle so much traffic (i.e., if they blow up your car, you're f*cked because it's a ghost town). The time limit. And then the fact that even if you get all that sh*t done, you STILL have to lose your wanted level at the end.

That mission was all kinds of f*cked up.

I mentioned above already, it's "Tune In, Turn On, Bug Out"

It's easy, if you use a helicopter and get police bribes. It's hard if you do it like how I did it and just driving to the nearest pay and spray, but it's impossible to avoid the FBI roadblock which annihilates your vehicle in 1-2 seconds, thus you're running on foot trying to find a car to get into the pay and spray. Horrible mission, along with Unfriendly Competition where you have to kill all those respawning bitches who are using AK-47's. I could never beat it on the ground. I had to go up onto the high dive, also where one of the bitches spawn that you need to kill. The second part of the mission, where you chase the drug dealer on a quad is easy, though...

This is EXACTLY how my mission went, too...I was literally on foot finding a car and got to the pay and spray...

I'm really surprised to see that no one mentioned the first two Zero missions from San Andreas.

I've heard some people say the first Zero mission was horrendous for them, but I didn't find that one to difficult using the Minigun to take down all those tiny planes dropping bombs. However, I already mentioned the second Zero mission, "Supply Lines..." in a previous post. His third mission was not bad, either...

Well I can admit, Zero's first and third missions were somewhat easy if you just pay attention, but, with "Supply Lines..." I still wonder how I managed to get past that sh*t.

Yeah, me too. Idk how I passed it either. 1 second longer in the air with the RC plane, I would of ran out of fuel. Supposedly there is a PS2 glitch (which I am using PS2 games on my PS3 since it's backward compatible) where even if you are gliding with the plane, the fuel will still decrease. Whereas on PC, it was fixed and when you get back to the roof top to Zero, you have half or even more than half of the fuel. As for PS2, you have literally no fuel but somehow I passed it. Literally, the bar was completely empty. 1 second longer it would of said mission failed. I couldn't stand Supply Lines...One of the sh*ttiest missions in all of GTA for me, tbh...

So true. One thing that continues to make me confused was this, why is it that we have to manually aim the rc plane's crappy gun at our targets, but they can easily auto-aim at you and will rarely miss a bullet?

Supply lines is actually pretty cool and one of my favorite missions.

I think many people either don't realise or might be unaware about the fact, that Rockstar had looked into the issue of fuel running out, throughout the mission.

The latest versions of the game, have remedied the flaw, and now you just need to focus on learning how to control and glide the plane without using fuel, as much as possible.

It's a really nice, and challenging mission, and no more harder than required due to a bug that caused the fuel to ran out, no matter what.

Actually, you know what I do to make it a bit easier with shooting those vans? All you gotta do is literally land the RC plane on the street behind the van. They won't shoot at you until you shoot at them. But the gun on the Plane is pretty good if you're dead onto the vehicle and not miss. You won't miss if you are directly behind the van on the road. It blows up in 1-2 seconds. I did it this way when I passed the mission. Trying to shoot the van down while in flight will result in them shooting at you and destroying the plane quickly. I must add, though, even when you're completely STOPPED on the road and not airborn..........Fuel still decreases....f*cking PS2 glitch, man. f*cking hate it.

Like Osho said, newer versions of the game got it fixed, but it's not like I game on PC or will buy a new version of the game when my PS2 copy is working just fine and have a backward compatible PS3. It just makes it one of the hardest missions in the game or any GTA game for that matter.

For me Supply Lines is hard due to the poor durability of the plane rather than the time limit ... I've done more than 10 playthrough (especially PS2 and Xbox 360 - Xbox Live download) and I've never found that the fuel limit was a real pain in the ass.

The first Zero mission seems to be easier on Xbox, because it never caused me any problem on that version ... However a friend of mine wanted me to help him passing this mission on his PS3, and the joystick sensibility was so high on this version, that the mission was almost impossible to complete without robot hands !

The last Zero mission is very cool and original, personally I really like it.

If we don't take top down GTAs in consideration, I'd say the hardest missions are in GTA III, especially toward the end of the game. But it's mainly due to a "weak" gameplay and level design.

I can't recall a single mission in the HD era that I found especially challenging ... Anyone knowing how the cover system work can almost beat GTA IV without dying a single time. In GTA V we have a lot of checkpoints, so the game allows much more mistake, which tend to make the challenge disappear.

Paper Trail: So simple, yet so easy to fail. It seems as if you're even one degree off, you'll fail. I've failed this mission while the helicopter I was chasing was still in my sights.

Deep Inside: Cars make for terrible cover when the FIB guys are on all sides of you.

Nervous Ron: This mission was the first time I ever flew a plane in any game, so I wasn't used to the flying controls.

Any of Zeros missions in San Andreas. I always thought the missions were mandatory..

Supply Lines was the worst thing ever... I recently played the game again not too long ago, hardest I've raged in years..

See, I thought Zero's first mission, even on my PS3 controller wasn't bad at all...It was always Supply Lines. No matter what I did, no fuel. It was the only problem. Sure enough at first I had some trouble flying and crashing into things and/or getting annihilated by guys in the van, but once I figured all that out, the only problem left standing was the fuel running out. It didn't matter how quick I was, fuel is gone once I reach the top of the building with Zero waiting for me. I remember in 2007 when me and a friend did this mission, too...Same outcome. Got back with 0 fuel left...Then 7 years later when I did this game again, same outcome. No fuel. 1 more second in air, it would of said mission failed...

I never played 2D GTA, so I can't comment, but yeah, GTA III is by far the hardest in the series, imo. I had trouble with the Rampages, though, more than the missions. Those headshot only Rampages were a nightmare. It does NOT compare to PC as PC players have this cross hair/aiming sort of thing with a white dot in the middle to make it easier. PS2 does not. PS2 always getting the sh*t end of the stick and having a much higher difficulty level...

Yup, no challenge in HD Era. It's just not there anymore, it's getting more casualized, even in IV, and I actually think IV and SA are the best in the series, but regardless of how much I like IV + Episodes, it's all easy as sh*t, no challenges anymore. Nor is there any proof vehicles anymore to collect, which gave me an even greater challenge in the 3D Era.

Trespass was a pain. Whenever I was doing that mission it had to be the night time no? Ah. I totally forgot about Waka-Gashira Wipeout. Not only that I never wanted to kill Kenji but that Yakuza with the AR10 made the mission hard as nails. I'm not sure though, on the PS2 version, did all the Yakuzas only have Uzi's?

Wrong side of the tracks! proved to be - not something as easy as I expected to be.

Same case, with 'The Driver', but this turned out to be a lot more annoying.

Today, I can manage to complete it, and also been one of my favorite mission too.

That mission was so annoying...

When I was a kid, N.O.E was a pain. Flying low in a game with random pop-ins is never easy. :p

Always thought the PS2 era games had some insane difficulty spikes at some points.

I've completed Vice City 5-6 times and I've only completed 'The Driver' once without turning on the flying car cheat. f*ck that mission.

A lot of VCS' missions take me a lot longer they should, not sure what it is with that game.

House Party. Being an early mission, I underestimated the difficulty and it took me about a million tries to work out that the Ballas also come from behind you

Something that I learned from many missions in IV, that particularly involve chase sequences is, to keep a good distance between you, and the ones you're chasing. This is one of the things I never had to worry about in previous 3D games, unlike in IV, where a lot of chase sequences have scripted events, that would end up killing you instantly, --if you've no idea of those scripted moments, and/or --if you're driving the car perfectly, to the point, that you could easily take the opponent out either by shooting him, or with car rammed into, until when some vehicle out of nowhere ruins the chase or rams into you, forcing a restart.

It really feels odd, and quite an attempt to force you in chasing someone, until the right moment arrived for you to kill him, and again if you failed that moment too, you've to restart the mission.

As playing it for the first time, it was f*cking hard to memorize all such little annoying scripted events placed between while you're chasing someone. Required many restarts to understand how and when Niko could actually survive these chases.

  • 3 weeks later...

In GTA SA , one of Toreno's missions (before buying the airstrip), where you had to destroy all of them helicopters with the RPG, and then escape the police.

Also, one of Derrick's missions in GTA IV where you had to get that korean dude into the city.

When I was a kid, the racing missions, Zero's missions, and flying school were f*cking horrendous.

Totaly agree with you, except for the racing missions, i found them easy since I play a lot of racing games.
