Missions that were harder than you expected

Name some mission that you found harder than expected, like after watching a video or reading the summary of the mission and it looked easy, it was still pretty easy. Or missions that were easy in a previous playthrough, which you struggled with in the most recent playthrough.

For me it's: Smackdown (IV), A Long Way to Fall and I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots and Your Motorcycle.

wuut? i just completed those missions right now. those were pretty easy. only I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots and Your Motorcycle was a little difficult since in vanilla IV, if you get tapped by a car when riding a bike, you fall off and fly in the air

Smackdown from IV, the cops made me rage quit a few times, I've even broken a controller over this mission...

One time I even had to run halfway across Alderny to find a hotdog stand cause I really didn't wanna start it over.

Algonquin Assassin

I remember with one of my saves of GTA IV I kept failing "Harboring A Grudge". I think I tried it 5 times before I ended up passing it. It's funny how things work out like that. On my current save I've passed every single mission without a hiccup so far any way.

The Most Wanted and vigilante missions tend to give me more of a headache actually.

Supply Lines in GTA San Andreas. I raged a lot when playing that mission, I either ran out of gas or couldn't kill the two guys on the Sanchez.

Smackdown was hard because the cops get so easily involved, they only shoot at YOU, and when you just need to shoot down that last gang member, you get shot in the back with a shotgun by a cop, who sneakily entered the house.

Depends a bit on luck I guess, it's easy when you won't get a wanted level of course...

Wrong side of the tracks! proved to be - not something as easy as I expected to be.

Same case, with 'The Driver', but this turned out to be a lot more annoying.

Today, I can manage to complete it, and also been one of my favorite mission too.

Boiler suits

It's so damn hard to pick which suit would suit MTF better ;)

OT: The Big Score - Obvious. It's quite easy until you get to the helicopter part. Haven't managed to pass that mission without a skip checkpoint.

Stowaway in GTA SA

IT'S f*ckING IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE BIKE INSIDE THE PLANE!
Tried it a couple of times to pass it.

The mission in Vice City where you fly an RC helicopter into that construction site, dropping bombs if I recall correctly. Then again, I was like 9 years old. (Just Googled Vice City's release date, I was indeed 9). That was a difficult mission for me back then. I got so worried by the timer and would stress myself and fail the mission. Took me a few tries.

None of the missions I try out nowadays are difficult but I had a LOT of problems completing "Farewell My Love" because I absolutely was terrible at racing (this was back when the game was mainly played on PS2) not to mention the game was extremely dark on my TV which would block the view of all those trees or railings.. I flipped the car 50 times in a span of a month.

Now I beat it in less than 5 minutes every time.. which is a good feeling.

How can people think Smackdown from IV was hard? it was easy and I completed it the first time I tried it.

Do you know how utterly soul crushing it is when the game doesn't give you the tick of approval for picking out those suits? It may as well pull down my drawers and tan my hide for not conforming to heist dress code.

Trespass in GTAIV was always my bogey mission. Plenty easy for Russians to be hiding in any and every crevice of that factory.

Sasuke Uzumaki

Autocide in Vice City. Holy cow, I failed that mission 50+ times till I realized using the .308 Sniper was a bad idea. I nearly smashed my TV because of that.

See, this isn't hard if you drive behind all the roads kinda staying close to the coastline of the beach, avoiding ALL gang member activity...Nothing to it, really.

Hard "missions:"

A few Rampages in GTA III

"PCJ Playground" in Vice City

"Supply Lines..." in San Andreas

RC Races in LCS

Some of the Empire Site side missions in VCS + "Tune In, Turn On, Bug Out" and also "Unfriendly Competition"

"Hostile Negotiation" in GTA IV

On my most recent playthrough I failed "Out of Commission" 5 times while I would get it in 1 or 2 tries in my other playthrough's.

I once failed 'A Revenger's Tragedy' because Dimitri landed a rocket on Little Jacob's helicopter WHILE i was still hanging onto the skids. It was pretty hilarious to me, but overall - that mission wasn't too hard...

Missions that others deem hard are usually hard for me, i can't think of any original ones. I'll just go with Vice City's 'Demolition Man'.

I would pick the second red job from the Red Necks (GTA 2) without any hesitation.

You go in jail, provoke a riot, kill 8 prison guards then escape. Sounds easy, right ?

Well ... guess what ? It's the HARDEST mission in the whole GTA history !

Why is it so incredibly challenging ?

- There's hundreds of prisoners with ridiculously overpowered fist (no kidding, there's LITERALLY hundreds of NPCs !), and they can kill you with 3 hits at full health.

- You have a very limited amount of ammo, so you must use your gun very wisely.

- Prison guards are not marked on the compass, you have to find them by yourself.

- These guards can be very deadly if you make a single mistake while trying to kill them (You don't kill them fast enough ? They'll reply by shooting at you, which can kill you in only a few shots !).

- The whole prison is in a riot state, you have literally no place to rest yourself.

- Prisoners run as fast as you

etc ...

This mission is a real nightmare, but very well designed in the manner that you really feel like a tiny dot in the middle of a terrific and deadly jungle.

I've still not managed to fully complete the mission. I've managed to kill the 8 guards only once, but I got killed during the escape process ... And it required me 3 hours (which means countless tries) just to manage to kill the guards !!!

Supply Lines is a tiny tutorial next to this mission !

Ha ha, Alma Mater Return? This was actually very hard to complete on my first try.

The unexpected riot scene was actually pretty scary, esp. the prisoner fist, and it's only because of this, the mission was a major pain to finish it.

Not at all easy, but you can do a lot better if you're quick enough in finishing the targets early, even then, later parts could end up restarting the mission entirely on the slightest mistake.

But, I still love this mission. It was just an amazing and interesting to play, hard to see such kind of missions in later titles.

I don't remember the name, but it's the Vice City Stories mission where you have to knock down the police satellites with a rocket launcher while avoiding the cops. That f*cking mission made me rage quit like two times until I finally got lucky. Didn't matter if I went to Pay n' Spray, stars kept going up. The f*ckin' rocket launcher didn't hit the target half the time. The fact that the wanted level gets to the point where they'll set your car on fire within seconds but the PSP's hardware can only handle so much traffic (i.e., if they blow up your car, you're f*cked because it's a ghost town). The time limit. And then the fact that even if you get all that sh*t done, you STILL have to lose your wanted level at the end.

That mission was all kinds of f*cked up.

@Osho

Indeed ! I wouldn't have said better.

Even though the mission is incredibly hard, it's a very interesting one.

You are surrounded by hundreds of extremely powerful enemies so you have to literally fight for your life while controlling your fear (because when a prisoner is running behind you, it's scary as hell !). Moreover mistakes are strictly forbidden, otherwise you restart the whole mission (with the long driving part at the beginning).

If R* would have put such an hard mission in a HD era title, I guess the players would have gone mad !

Btw, the mission where you have to steal the Tank in the military base (a Red Neck job too) and then bring it back to the camp is very tricky too. You have to avoid the tanks road blocks even though you can't see these until it's too late, due to the top down view !

@DeafMetal This mission is not the easiest, but I can't recall struggling that much to complete it because I've used a chopper.
