GTA Online community going to sh*t?

It's my first thread on this site, so my post may look a little noob-ish.

 

I've been playing GTA Online since launch, for around 2 hours a day and for the most part it's been a pleasant experience. But up until recently (the last month) I've noticed in general, the community of players has just gotten a LOT worse. It feels like the CoD community now, as there's a least one or two arseholes in every lobby (on average) that will kill you and send hate messages to you constantly or verbally abuse you though their headset.

 

Just today in fact, I was invited to the mission Rooftop Rumble. I joined and as I am usually efficient in the way I play, so it was completed fast. I completed it with the dude that invited me, then after he killed me on the spot near the drop-off point, which to be fair I do sometimes "for teh lolz" so I thought fair enough. But he then after killing me destroyed my Zentorno which made him pay 9K to Moore's Mutual Insurance - which was pointless as hell as he set Rooftop Rumble to to easy which means we only got around 12K anyway and he had to pay for grenades etc so he pretty much made no money from it after destroying my car. So I asked why he did it and told him he wasted his money and time, he responded "because its gta". Wtf? So "because its gta" you sit on the game all day (he was like level 250) doing missions pointlessly to then kill and grief people for no reason?

 

So he invited me to Rooftop Rumble again, this time he was even more of an arse. He set it on hard mode, which we still did everything efficiently but up until having to drive the drop-off point it was going well. So he had the document, me and another player were waiting at the drop-off for at least 5 minutes yet the other guy seemed to not care at all, I told him to hurry up via an in-game text message, he then replied saying he's driving as fast as he could (yet he wasn't, he was being a dick killing one of the other players in the lobby for no reason, even though he's helping in the mission). I then told him to hurry up again, he turned on his headset and started talking bullsh*t about if you take longer to deliver it, you can get up to 100K or some crap like that in which he was talking out of his arse. So I turned my headset on to tell him to hurry up and stop talking bullsh*t but he then (as I'm English) started calling me hilariously stupid insults like "cigarette eating British bitch" and said I'm a "noob that doesn't know things like this" (even though I'm level 133 with a positive win/lose ratio on every activity, a near 2.0 k/d and have gotten 100% on story mode lol). So to try and make him finish the mission (rather than waiting and insulting me) I stooped to his level as used petty insults like "fat Amercian McDonald's Eating dumb c*nt" lol which got him angry and made him deliver the document (as he wanted to leave).

 

After I left, he sent me hate messages via in-game texting so I just left the lobby completely as I cba talking to cretins like him. I then joined another lobby, pretty much as soon as I joined and got in my car somebody invited me to their apartment, I asked them why they are inviting me and he started insulting me calling me a "dumbarse" (he was English) so I told him to calm down. I went into his garage as told him he had nice cars (he had all the most expensive cars, fully upgraded), he said he had one billion dollars (in which I knew he must have therefore been a hacker) then called me a noob and left the lobby.

 

What I'm trying to say is, it was never like this at launch (at least in my experience) but now it seems you can't get into a lobby anymore to have fun as everybody are arseholes. I get it's a violent game but keep the abuse virtually, I hate the people that try to justify themselves being a dick and swearing at people through their headset as "its gta bro", it's a videogame at the end of the day and it being violent does not give you an excuse to be a piece of sh*t over your mic.

I agree that they seem to be more common these days. Boredom and lack of new content may have something to do with it. People have played pretty much every game mode they like, bought everything they wanted etc. so the only thing that is left to do for their enjoyment is troll. Everything else is just repetition. At the end of the day though, trolls gonna troll, regardless of new content.

I agree with you, OP. Unfortunately, people like us are the minority, and Rockstar seems to have created Freeroam with chaos in mind. Invite only is sadly your best bet of having a good time with friends, but you get used to it. Better than dealing with griefers and douches all day.

well i have been playing since launch and to be honest i the behavior of the "community" have always being like that.

 

there are some easy money glitches out there, plus people still have millions from the hookers glitch, add the fact that insurance/badsport is almost non-existant, stuff like that.
