Ash_735
The word is lossless guys. They use WAV files at 48,000Hz. Confirm by Lazlow in the live stream with the GTA 5 O'clock guys. I'm guessing that the bit depth is 16 or maybe 24, but not definitely not 32 no one is that crazy. If they used Lossless on the game, GTAV would be around 100-f*cking-GB. The stock masters they keep are 48Khz, 32bit-float, but for in game use it's downsampled, majority format on the Xbox 360 version (and PC version if we use GTA IV) was ADPCM, where as the PS3 version used the MP3 codec (VBR 56kbps to 80kbps per channel), frequency ranging from the type of sound it is, but just going off cutscenes and radio, average frequency would 32Khz. The Deadite
If they don't improve the sounds then expect to maybe see some mods on the PC to improve/change the sound quality, GTA IV had some sound mods you could download to change car sounds and what not. Spaghetti Cat
No way! 8-bit mono on a blown out speaker is the wave of the future. Common R* make it happen! No Image Available
L0SS4NT0SK1LL3RV
As the new X1/PS4 version is getting a slight graphical upgrade, I would sure like it to get a bit of boom to its sounds as well. Anyone with me? The guns, they just don't sound like anything. They need more juice, now they just sound too silent and "dry", not that bassy. You don't feel like you're firing a pistol or an assault rifle, it's more like you're shooting with a bb-gun at some points. Sure the Heavy Pistol and Special Carbine sound a bit powerful, but the rest should too. And the cars. They're a weird mix. Some sound loud and awesome, some are completely muffled. Mostly the completely new cars have updated sounds, but the old ones have just carried over their rather boring rawrs. Last but not least, the cops. I'd love a bit more powerful sirens. They're quite good already, but I don't know, just feel like that last bit of something is missing. Slight graphical update??? Men you must be blind, it looks a completely new game, about the songs yes, i agree!
Delta India Echo
They should have made assault rifles sound like this: What we have sounds like pellets. Chinese pellets. Payne Killer
BrokenLizard
Rockstar just recycled the sounds from IV. Very poor decision on their part. Simply put, the sounds dont match the graphics. A car crash, for example, sounds like two pieces of iron clanking together rather than how a real one would. I wouldnt mind crashing my car if they sounded realistic. PhillBellic
^They didn't recycle sounds from IV. Actually they did. All police sirens and the airhorn, bar the wail were a direct copy and paste from IV. Cheers.
JCFast
Guns should kind of sound like what they sound in Heat. That movie's shootout scene, that's what I was expecting hearing that game took influences from that movie. But we are really far from it... helresa
I do suspect that we will get not only better sounds, but more music(confirmed). I also hope we will get more on the tv and movie theatres. The original was limited to about 16gb (2 8gb disks) with the next gen you have blu ray which has a 50gb capacity. God knows how many dvd's will come for the PC.

I haven't had a DVD reader in my PC since some time around 2011.
