But what about HiDef Sounds?

As the new X1/PS4 version is getting a slight graphical upgrade, I would sure like it to get a bit of boom to its sounds as well. Anyone with me?

The guns, they just don't sound like anything. They need more juice, now they just sound too silent and "dry", not that bassy. You don't feel like you're firing a pistol or an assault rifle, it's more like you're shooting with a bb-gun at some points. Sure the Heavy Pistol and Special Carbine sound a bit powerful, but the rest should too.

And the cars. They're a weird mix. Some sound loud and awesome, some are completely muffled. Mostly the completely new cars have updated sounds, but the old ones have just carried over their rather boring rawrs.

Last but not least, the cops. I'd love a bit more powerful sirens. They're quite good already, but I don't know, just feel like that last bit of something is missing.

I completely f*cking agree. With especially particular nod to the car sounds. Example:

Coquette sounds fairly good. Has a real beastly engine sound. Could be improved. I'd rate it about 75% of what it should sound like.

Banshee? For a V10 or something where the F*CK is the engine??!! It sounds like a battery powered scooter. Horrible and shows a clear lack of effort put into the car. 0%.

I can't wait to actually just hear the game lol. My PS3 is so loud. :panic:

Anyway, yeah with the extra space they will no doubt beef up the sounds to a higher quality. I don't think they will completely redo any of the sounds. (But it would be nice to be proved wrong about that)

The sound could definitely use some beefing up. Even though there's a variety of sounds for a lot of things. Like stepping on glass, sand and having soaked shoes. It'd be nice to have some more quality on top of all that quantity, though.

The AK-47 could use some better sound effects.

TLoUR had remastered sound too, not only graphics. So I don't see why R* wouldn't update it too.

I agree with OP. Take for example Bati. For a sport moto sounds like sh*t...where's that vroom? Chopers sound better on the other side.

I found many of the cars had 'tinny' engine sounds. Take Frank's Buffalo, it didn't sound very Muscle Car to me.

Cheers.

Nah, the sounds are fine, the reason cars and guns feel so weak is because of the gameplay mechanics.

If the guns had actual recoil where the reticule jumps about, the sounds would feel fine and the guns powerful.

Same with cars. They feel weak, they look weak with the weird shine effects, but they don't sound too bad. If there was a noticeable feel of the engine kicking in like in GTA4, the vehicles would feel pretty awesome. Some better effects would be nice, though. Better gear shift sounds and such, which GTA4 actually had for appropiate cars.

Oh my god, I could not concur anymore, and I for many, appreciate the inception of this thread! :D Yes, the transition of Grand Theft Auto: V to the New-Gen portal, simply should encompass higher quality PCM sound effects samples, chiefly for more booming, authentic vehicle "ignition sequence" sounds and the implementation of an approve Yelp and Priority / Phaser tone for the emergency vehicles. :) I love the realistic Wail tone that was upgraded from its predecessor in Grand Theft Auto: IV; it is slightly akin to the Federal Signal Smart Siren. Those siren sound waves resonate so powerfully and dominantly, even when you distance yourself from the vehicle with it still active. :) The Yelp and Priority signals most definitely need to be overhauled.

Now, pertaining to the vehicles, every variant of sound that they utter, needs to be overhauled, chiefly the ignition sequence / engine startup sound. If New-Gen Grand Theft Auto: V is going to encompass a First-Person driving perspective, we will want to know that there is an epic, authentic, bassy, riveting "vroom" sound that is being generated from the hood / engine, especially with the beautiful new dashboard renderings.

It would be awesome if when entering the vehicle, the protagonist performed a key-turning animation in the ignition switch from 'Auxillary / 'ACC' mode to 'Start' with a synced key-jingling sound and two-tone door chime sound, followed by the engine startup sound. :)

Allow me to provide clarification as to what I mean, by employing my best onomatopoeia, haha. :D

So, this is what the generated engine sounds are like for, Last-Gen.

Last Gen Grand Theft Auto: V engine sound: 'Chur, rev, rev, rev-vwoom!'.

Very quiet with alot of treble and little bass. Note the lacked of 'vroom'. ;):p

Now, a quality New-Gen engine sound should emit a commanding: 'Churrr-revv-revv-revv-revv-vrooooommmm!'

So, thus this should be the sequence of new sound effects when entering a vehicle:

1. Key-jingling sound.

2. Two-tone door chime signal.

3. 'Churrr-revv-revv-revv-revv-vrooooommmm!' *

*With of course variation for vehicles with diesel engines, buses, motorcycles, watercraft and aircraft.

The weapons / explosion sounds should also be overhauled.

That is awesome about The Last Of Us: Remastered sounds being revamped; it gives us strong hope for Grand Theft Auto: V! :D

The new hardware can deliver all of this.

Mr Thesaurus, ;) the 'yelp' and 'priority' sirens were in addition to the 'airhorn', recycled from IV. :/

Ahh yes, thus the airhorn should be overhauled as well. It would be nice if it happens. :)

You should check out the Federal Signal Smart Siren. It's what the LAPD use.

Cheers.

Didn't GTA IV on PC have some improved sound effects, I specifically rememeber weapons sounding better.

I generally think the sounds were great in GTA V, what I would LOVE to see is the ability to tune the sound mix myself by putting in volume sliders for Guns, Vehicles, Envoirment, Dialog, Radio, Ambient soundtrack, etc..

I don't know if it's relevant or not but the game has missing sound files usually for dialogue. Once I called Chef and I couldn't hear his dialogue. The game automatically displayed the subtitles for his dialogue despite my subtitles being off. This happened multiple times in different occasions.

Most of the sounds in the game are pretty disappointing, at least for vehicles.. others are impressive.

I'd love to see them improve on this without a doubt, most of the cars sound pretty quiet and weak compared to a few others.

^ It would be awesome if the Daemon had a similar engine sound to the Triumph that Daryl had in TWD.

I will have you know, that I did view a YouTube video pertaining to the Federal Signal Smart Siren this morning, and I have great recollection of its utilization. It would be ideal if Rockstar slightly emulated the Smart Siren's Yelp and Priority tones, and designated them as the replacement PCMs for Grand Theft Auto: V's default Yelp and Priority tones.

Additionally, the emergency vehicles are devoid of the fourth tier of siren variants, that being the 'Hi-Lo Phaser' or two-tone siren. It would just add another pinch of realism to an already immersive concoction. :)

If there's anything they need to improve, it's the engine startup sound. It has always been sh*tty in GTA games, especially IV and V where it sounds like you're flipping a switch or something. Watch Dogs got it right.

Damn, all this time criticizing the engine sounds, and it never occurred to me that there is NO startup sound! Wow! You are completely correct, this is really the biggest crime of all. When I start up a Coquette, I should hear the "creek-creek-creek VRUUUUMMMMMmmmm" followed by the beautiful purring of the idle engine. Never even noticed it all this time but now that you mention it you're 100% spot on.

Come on Rockstar, if you're going to go all out with first person views and active dash gauges, go one step further and make those cars sound like they mean business!

I think the sound will be improved, they have no storage bottlenecks now as they were previously held back by the 360's crappy DVD player. The quality should improve to something like 7.1 surround sound with a higher bit-rate.

Drill Sergeant

The word is lossless guys. They use WAV files at 48,000Hz. Confirm by Lazlow in the live stream with the GTA 5 O'clock guys. I'm guessing that the bit depth is 16 or maybe 24, but not definitely not 32 no one is that crazy.

I'm still crossing my fingers for better equalized musical scores.

There are just some parts in the game where the SFX completely drowns out the background music. It was never like this in any other Rockstar games, even in Max Payne 3 where there are guns blazing all over the place.

I also agree.

What's sad is, GTA IV had excellent gun sounds, they felt so much better and realistic when being fired.

But Rockstar couldnt match, let alone exceed that quality for GTA V? I simply cannot wrap my head around how a dev could ever downgrade something from one game to its successor.

in terms of sound,

-Gun Sounds need to be upgraded. Some of those weapons don't sound like that For real.

-Car crashes need to sound different each time depending on the impact

-Every Car needs to have it own specific sound, theres some cars that sound exactly alike, no matter how much you upgrade em

Sorry, I had to. :p

OT: I think IV's AK-47 sounds were superb. Kinda want those to make a return for V. Though obviously with some refinement.

This could probably be done with mods, too. But I'll wait and see if they "officially" improve on the effects in the new versions first.
