The minimap in GTA Online

When you play GTA Online, you can't help but notice the rectangular minimap at the bottom left hand corner of your screen. How useful is the minimap in GTA Online? How much harder would GTA Online be without the minimap?

Someone missed the shapes lesson.

And that had to be Giantsgiants.

Circular?

Sorry, my mistake. I played GTA IV more recently than GTA V, and I forgot that GTA V uses a rectangular minimap. The OP is fixed now.

I tried playing GTA O a while back without the HUD and I gotta say, it was quite a challenge, never did it again as I rely on that mini map too much

Much too hard, the minimap is a difference between life and death for me sometimes.

The only time you'd turn it off is for immersion. You can still hit start and check on things but for the most part you'd have to a veteran just to find your way around the city. And god help you if someone is trying to kill you, you'd have to hole up in a building somewhere or the hit and runs would never stop.

I like the feeling of V without the minimap. You should just try it when with a mate or alone out in the wilderness. Gives a greater sense of the world being believable, your eyes are actually scanning the surroundings as opposed to being glued to the map only to glance away every other moment to avoid crashing.

I've yet to try it around others though, but with free aim on and the large white arrows above players I couldn't imagine it being too tough.

V HoneyBadger V

I only use the minimap to check if anyone is nearby who may cause trouble. I feel that I know the world very well so I don't need to look at it.

It is one of those things that I would remove but kind of need it there for safety and checking my health.

I use the extended map. You cant see your health/armor but normally when some gets a shot or two on you ur dead anyway. it helps with high speed navigating and the benefit outweights the extra overlap of screen(dead area). You can also crosscheck bounties when hunting them down better.

Just double tap down on the D-Pad and you don't have to sacrifice any of your screen, or HUD unless you need to at that particular moment.

The only real change needed is the option to turn mission markers etc off completely.

Well once you know your way around, not having a minimap is about as hard as you not having a mini map where you live.

But just wait. Soon there will be an icon for everything. So I'd start getting used to not playing with your map on.

I often turn off the map & HUD and it can be really fun like that, but it gets damn annoying when you get a vehicle delivered. You often have to open the map to find it.

That's all I use my map for. Wish I could just get a arrow to point the way.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to toggle it on/big/off. It's annoying to have to go into the settings to turn it off. The options in this game (or lack of them) really aren't put together in a user-friendly way.

Well, after reading a years worth of forum posts this game isn't user friendly.

Or it's the greatest game ever made.

But it does seem they didn't have any actual gamers work on this title.

Only use I have for it is to see my health, and see where cops are. I know this city like the back of my hand, I don't need it to get anywhere anymore. I don't use waypoints at all.

I hate the mini-map, or rather I should say I hate not being able to the use the extended less mini, mini-map by choice which is far more useful.
