I agree.

I actually do.

Why?

The angle of them being paid or bought out by Sony/MS, as well as the angle that they're delaying it to milk consoles? It's too obvious. Rockstar treats a lot of their fans like absolute f*cking cretins at times, sure. But there is no way on this earth that they didn't know how bad they'd look if they revealed that January release date. But they knew they had to. Why? Because it's a genuine issue that caused it to be changed, not a simple money scheme.

So they revealed the January delay. They bit the bullet, knowing full well of the publicity they'd get for it. The obvious accusations.

i don't think they're unfounded. History has given us reason to have these doubts and accusations, and I'm perfectly fine with people having them, but what i'm not fine with is being called a sheep for thinking outside the box. The box of armchair businessman-driven negativity that everyone seems to have confined themselves into. That all of this MUST be some type of milking strategy, it couldn't possibly be any other reason.

I'm not defending Rockstar here, I'm defending independent thinking that doesn't bind itself to past patterns.

So yeah, I'm going to play it completely straight and ignorant on purpose and say that I agree. I trust the build logs and I trust your/Ash's/whoever's source(s). The PC version has been worked to death on, and the NG consoles completely blindsided everyone. That's exactly what happened and as a result, the PC version is going to be a spectacular technological marvel that'll blow everyone away the moment it drops.

TL;DR: Rockstar's developers are great. Rockstar's management/marketing/PR is absolute arse. So even though the management f*cked us over, the developers' work will still see the light of day come January 27th. That's good enough for me. Unless they delayed it for 2 months to nerf it or something.

thats what i think managment marketing pr etc is what i disrepect not rockstar games themselves the developers who make this artwork i don't think they had a say in anything then again the houser brothers did the amazing story for gta 4 and they are the ones who are like this

it's dissapointing

I trust that the developers have the best intentions, but the higher-ups, including the Housers themselves, seem to have their sights set on consoles. While the actual dev branches themselves do their best to work on the projects they've been given, whether it be console or PC related.

It's a split down the middle, basically. Very unfortunate.

So you're telling me the game was originally developed for PC, downgraded for last gen consoles, and ported to current gen consoles, and they still have to delay it into early next year?

Yeah, they care quite a bit to prioritize the consoles not once, but TWICE.

No, I don't agree with you. The PC version will still sell quite a bit anyway, so it's whatever. Rockstar still gets their money, and PC gamers still gets their sloppy seconds. Or in this case thirds.

Yeah I'm bitter, and I have a right to be.

no, he's actually 100% correct about the development part.

now whether they genuinely "cared" for PC is another story. i think rockstar cares only for how much money they can make at the end of the day.

the part in your statement i highlighted is the sad, f*cked up truth unfortunately. the development of the PC version began way before the new consoles existed and finished before the porting process to those consoles even began, and now they are getting it BEFORE the PC is -- and just in time for the holiday season (rockstar has their milk jugs ready)

not only is that outrageous and shady business practice, it's also f*cked up because it once again demonstrates that rockstar values money over everything and how they have no issues with marginalizing a popular platform (PC) for as long as need be, simply because it generates less sales for them.

the PC version would have been long since released were it not for the emergence of the new consoles. those consoles stalled everything. the initial announcement, release date and actual release of the PC version were all greatly prolonged because people high-up in rockstar's management decided it would be a better idea to post-pone the PC release in order to make PS4/XB1 ports.

we have at least three credible individuals on this forum who have confirmed the PC version was 100% completed since early 2014 and internal build logs revealing the same with only minor debugging going on by 2013. so what was holding up the long awaited announcement and actual release? once again...... the new consoles.

when the actual announcement was finally made in june, we were dealt yet another set back when they revealed it was coming in the fall, it was a set back because we all expected to receive it at an earlier date. but we settled for that, hell, we had no other choice.

they made us wait a few more months in silence after the june announcement. all of us extremely eager to receive some info and an actual release date by this point and when that info finally came, what did they end up doing? they essentially tell PC fans who have been waiting nearly three years for this game, to f*ck off and wait a few more months because we're releasing it on "NG" consoles first.

"coming to PS4 and XB1 november 18..........oh, and also PC......in 2015" trolololol.

no valid explanation given, nothing. they later said it was for "extra-polish and development", but those of us who kept up to date and informed on the matter know this is a highly dubious explanation at best.

----------------------

my take is this:

rockstar's mangers and the people who facilitate things at HQ don't give a damn about PC. however, the actual people who worked on the game and perhaps others in the organization do. a few bad apples f*cked up the entire thing and left many of us PC gamers with a bad taste in our mouths.

I honestly dont care why its coming out late.

As long as it runs like butter on good settings on my gtx 770 and i7-4771 im going to be happy.

It will be worth the wait. All of those (still really fun and memorable) crazy moments I had with friends on gta online at 24fps 720p with like 13 other players, will be way better on pc.

If its a sh*tty port - THEN i will be upset at rockster. For now Im just slightly irritated that I have to wait longer.

Well lets hope you are right. I think GTA5 on PC will sell well. It`s not going to make 1 billion within 3 days (but who knows), but it will still make R* enough money. A lot of people who were playing in consoles will also buy PC including me. I was playing on my 360, but once PC will be out, I`ll probably never touch it again on the console. It might even be cheaper for R*, because they don`t have to make so much physical copies, because if I recall correctly Steam purchases are more preferred than a physical copy. PC market has been growing and grew a lot since GTA4. I think that if R* is actually trying to even out PC and console release dates then maybe we could see GTA6 or GTA7 released on consoles and PC at the same date. All previous GTA were released on PC months after consoles. Imagine that changing. Of course right now it`s not months, but like 1,3 years

I have the exact same GPU and CPU. We`ll be rocking GTA5 on 1080p high settings and 60 FPS. Hell yeah! :D

And then new gen consoles hit the market and things started falling apart.

I don't know man, but Far Cry 3 ran pretty nice on my system.

OT: Like I said before, a money scheme by Sony and/or MS is nonsensical. Hate the PR, not the developers.

The only thing that will be different will be the video editor and the custom radio station. Although Rockstar might add those in via patches later on for the consoles.

I wouldn't be surprised if maxed PC settings didn't look that much different from the PS4 version. I feel another Watch Dogs coming on in terms of vanilla graphic fidelity.

But that really shouldn't matter since PC will have texture mods and ENB.

Rockstar cares only about money. I have tried to contact Rockstar about cancelling my GTA V PC order and they haven't replied. I've been waiting for a week now, sent 5 messages (even on twitter) and they haven't sent a single reply.

Like I said several times before: Every company only cares about money. It's just that some take different approaches. EA as an example sells a lot of DLC, making more money ot of a single copy of a game. Rockstar makes huge games that offer you a lot from the start, therefore selling more copys of the game.

The reasons for the delay are money and polishment.

I believe you one houndred percent, alot of people think that the only reason is money but i believe they are working on it as we speak.

Maybe it was finished and good enough to release already, but i think they're making it even better.

Unless you have facts why would you torcher yourself, right? There are no facts leading to them lying about actually polishing the game

So it is basicly the same as saying and believing the world will end tomorrow. (Bit more extreme though) xD

The negativity lately on these forums are really bothering me, it's no fun to read. But i'm not going to try and stop that because it wont.

Besides maybe the negativity is encouraging them (Rockstar) to work harder, i think the negativity is everywhere not just these forums.

I could be wrong about all this, i have no facts to back up my opinion but neither do the people who think Rockstar did not delay it for polishment.

I disagree. Rockstar knew about the NG consoles and their specs prior to anyone or any leaks. They knew that it would give them an edge in sales over long period of time so they developed the game on PC even before they actually had the NG hardware in house because we all know how similar NG consoles are to PC.

Developing the skeleton of the game that can run on PC would ease the development time once they did get the NG Dev kits in the house, all they would have left is optimization and that specific console feature integration etc.

They developed on PC so they would waste less time developing it for NG. They probably targeted this timeframe since release of LG version. So no, I doubt they care about PC, we would be lucky to even have such features if it weren't for NG consoles. If it wasn't for the NG, we would have GTA 4 kind of settings with DX11, maybe AA and tessalation control. Nothing else really.

What in the world was wrong with GTA IV's settings? Apart from the optimization being sh*t, the actual settings themselves were quite satisfactory. A few more basic options like anti-aliasing were obviously lacking, but aside from those, it was perfectly fine. Not many open world games give you a slider for pedestrian and traffic density, GTA does.

By the way, Max Payne 3 also had quite a few graphics settings on PC. NG consoles obviously weren't a factor. Rockstar is just lucky that they hit the time-frame just right, and we're unlucky for it at the same time, because that means they get to hold our version hostage while the NG console sales flow.

It's good for the optimizaiton and stability of the PC version, bad for the actual marketing and sales department. So I guess it'll be worth it in the long run. However, we aren't in the long run right now, unfortunately.

"Yes, we have sold in 34 million units, which is a lot of units," he said. "The obvious question is, 'Is there anyone else out there who would still buy it?' We happen to believe that there are people out there who have not bought the title yet. We think that GTA V on next-gen platforms could actually really move some hardware as well."

Well I've been saying this for too long and I still believe in it and once we see V running everyone will conclude the same.

Every game that was released in the past years after IV, was a prototype for what they wanted V to become in this generation.

GTAIV - was the beginning, the new engine and teh implementation of it for an open world game.

RDR - was the optimization of the engine, the use of vegetation, landscapes and wasted land (I believe horses too, those will be in this version).

MIDNIGHT CLUB LA - The cars, the tunning, the physics, the speed all of it will be implemented in terms of vehicles and driving in V, it was in LG but not at the same extend because of hardware.

Max Payne 3, obviously this was the last prototype, the one where all the optimizations learned during the years, all the new stability code, the better performance was implemented, the use of gun models and details, the covering system, the shootings, the bullet physics and we still don't know that but I'm sure the damage and gore will also be used.

I think the only thing missing was a fighting game, that way the physical combats would be better then they are.

But all of the knowledge acquired with these games, made V possible.

I still remember when Rockstar Toronto was here in 2008 and when I asked them why the shadows were so bad and they explained it was because of deferred light and other things that were only possible in DX10 and the game was DX9 base, which was the API of consoles. So they had an idea that they wanted to implement back then but the fact the game was created for that platform and then ported made it impossible. But they said that the next title would use the latest tech, back then it was DX10 only there was no DX11 mention yet.

And it seems that they did that, in fact they couldn't afford another stain in their reputation like GTA IV was, in fact they should feel proud that the game back then sold so much, because the game was "broken" for the majority of the machines available. And I believe that if they used another API back then the game wouldn't be so bad as it was.

But now the thing is, they couldn't afford another fail on PC like they did, but also they knew that was possible that new consoles could be very close by the time the game would be released. And in fact if the first hints about a 2012 release were real, the constant delay could actually be explained because of the new consoles.... I mean they wouldn't release the game in LG in 2012 and then re-release it on PC in 2013 and then again for CG in 2014, that wouldn't make any sense. So delaying it to 2013 for LG and PC/CG for 2014 was the reasonable thing to do... although along the road at last minute they also decided that the PC version should wait longer in order to keep a window open for console sales, to increase the current number of platforms available using fight for that effect.

So it's not exactly that they actually care about us, that had no other choice, it had to be done this way.

But I don't agree with what's written in the title, rockstar pissed on pc players, we piss back ;) (I'll have a full bladder on the 27th)

Who are the ones ranting and chanting that they want a "GTA V PC Version" First? We PC Gamers. Be glad that they actually are going to release one. Rockstar ain't obliged to make it, they only made it because it profits them.

The thing is, they have no choice, unless they don't want more money. They just can't ignore it, like it or not its fact and they have to go with the flow. It's a business, they want to sell we want to buy, it's a trade no one owes anything to anyone. They don't have to do it, not one forces them but they have to do it if they want our money, the same way I'm not forced to give them money if I don't like what they have to offer. No one is making a favor to anyone. If there was no game I would be sad but I would have to move on, but they would also lose the chance of making more money...

I consider rockstar porting or making GTA V on PC as charity work? Why? Us PC gamers are just going to destroy online like the current gen consoles ps3 and xbox did also "because it profits them?" like barely to nothing because GTA V is the most expensive game made, PC probably won't sell enough copies for them to earn back the money used for porting or making the PC version. Next gen consoles will probably sell enough copies to earn back the money used for creating these versions.
