Possibly a noob question for GTA racers

I joined a race with 3 players. All of us were driving a Massacro. I maxed the acceleration stats for that car, it's the only car I've upgraded that stat, and I don't even know why I did that because I don't race a lot, honestly. Also I'm not good at racing (won like 25 races, lost like... 100?), but since I had it upgraded I thought I might have a chance, but I was wrong. When I checked the other guys wins/losses, 2 of them were something like 1500/1200 each one. The other guy's wins/losses were similar to mine.

Anyway, we started the race, turbo start, and I was first for like, 8 seconds? Then, one of the 1500/1200 guys gained the lead, and immediately the other one put me in 3rd place, and they got further, and further, and further. The distance between them and me (or them and me and the 4th guy) was reaaaally big. Both of their blips were together so the 2nd place was a really close one in that race. I finished in 3rd place.

So, since I have no knowledge in this activity, my question is: Why there was a big difference? What caused that BIG distance between me and them? We had the same cars, I maxed the acceleration in that car and yet they got far away from me like rockets, and you can't increase your car top speed, right? So, what made them go waaaay faster, and as soon as we started the race?

Maybe catchup was on and they were useing each other as sling shots, each overtaking the other in turn.

edit: 1 to 4 winning ratio isn't that bad man.

They slip streamed you, got in front, then maintained a higher average speed (probably by slip streaming each other as mentioned above). I'm sure if you join other races you'll find you're more competitive.

Even if you "max" the acceleration with engine 2, engine 4 will be better. If you have engine 4, full transmission and turbo maybe it was slipstream

If I remember correctly, that was a non contact race, no slip stream and no catch up. Not 100% sure. Anyway, if I am wrong and those options were actually on, why I wasn't able to reach them the same way they reached me? Like I said, they got really far away immediately, there was a moment that the distance between me and them was so big I was completely sure I was gonna finish 3rd.

I was slip streamed in other races and managed to reach them anyway and gain the lead, but in this case it was impossible, they were definitely faster and the distance between me and them increased quickly.

Oh, I didn't know that. My engine is 2 because I didn't win enough races, but since I could max the acceleration anyway I didn't think that would be a problem.

I have multiple gamertags. On one gamertag my record is something like 2600 wins to 900 losses (contact races). On another account I use that I only race non-contact my record is 530 wins to 9 losses. Vroom Vroom!

I can state that I can pull away from a crowd of racers and it looks like I am up to something questionable. I have been accused of modding and even been supposedly reported though my wins and racing are legit.

My questions are this to you....

1) What track were you racing them on?

2) Was slipstream or catch up on?

3) Most important...was their final times within a reasonable range of the 'legit' leaderboard times?

OP didn't have all performance upgrades installed so that's why he couldn't reach them.

Also I assume they're better drivers, more used to racing.

Oops OP replied as I replied.

It takes 44 race wins to be able to upgrade the performance of the car to the maximum.

Anyone racing with less than 44 wins are racing with a vehicle that is not completely upgraded performance wise.

Assuming is only slightly worse than guessing.

One should never assume. <insert "make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me' comment, here>

Well anyway, to unlock all the things, host some races with custom vehicles off - and start them with only a few people.

Eventually they'll add up.

Do Super so it unlocks all classes.

You must have all the upgrades. The stats bars mean nothing.

Also more experienced racers know racing lines, braking points, etc better.

But mostly the upgrades, get all of them.

How are you getting people to join non contact races?. I've probably done 5 non contacts out of 500 races.. So annoying.

1) I don't remember. It wasn't in the city or a town, and the road where we started was pretty straight, so that was why it surprised me. Experienced players are better at drifting, braking and such but there was no need at all to do that in that road and yet they left me behind immediately and the distance between them and me increased quickly.

2) Almost sure they were off.

3) I don't know actually, but I don't think they were cheating.

I guess it's all about the upgrades, no matter what the bars say, thanks guys.

I simply host them and auto-invite.

The room gets people joining as much as contact races and many races are full of people.

I LOVE to race contact but just some people insist on wrecking not racing and especially with more wins than losses it seems people are determined to wreck a person.

I've out paced people on straights just by keeping my vehicle in a straight line a little better. Every time you move the steering wheel the car slightly slows down so if you can avoid steering it will make you faster, just watch for corners and traffic :p

Don't know if this was the case for you, just something i've noticed.

The truest statement today, it seems that people go out of their way to wreck you when they see you're a decent racer. They'll even give up going for the win and park their car in the middle of the tightest bit of road just to try and ruin someones race! Some people just seem to join racers to do this kind of thing, if anybody can provide a decent argument, whats the joy in it?

This. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Every time you touch the virtual steering wheel unnecessarily, you're losing speed and time.

More importantly, though, like the OP and several others have pointed out, the difference between Engine stage 2 and Engine stage 4 + turbo is pretty damned big.

That race was in the countryside of the map. That long road was mostly straight. There were some curves but they were big and easy. I don't remember it having corners.

Anyway, if there were, I still wouldn't be able to tell how they took them because I lost them quickly haha... I could see them only in the radar (expanding it to see how far they were exactly).

exactly.

you can even hear the difference between going a straight with and without steering. any little steering causes a leck of accelaration.

your level 2 turbo doenst make it better.

uhm IIRC the turbo is the one performance mod that doesn't have levels, you either have a turbo or you don't

but anyway having the bars maxed out LSC doesn't mean you have maximum performance

any and all performance mods affect stats even if the bar can't show it.

so get them all lvl 4

DarkSavageDeathlyCloud

They probably took over because of greater acceleration

And if slip stream was ever on all they needed to do was use eachothers slip stream to be even faster
