Barracks should be 6X6.

The Barracks in GTA5 is pitiful as a army truck. I mean look at this

I've tried hill climbing in a Barracks and it sucks, and I could also swear it is not 6X6. It also seems underpowered. Heck I don't think a Barracks can even make it up the mount chillid trail.

Anybody else thief a Barracks just to be disappointed by it. Maybe it can carry a lot of people, but I just feel it should do better off road then say, just a regular semi.

Yea if they shoud make one car going faster and better at climbing it shoud be this one :)

Awesome vids, OP! :)

I'm also disappointed that a military, big engine TRUCK can't climb a f*cking hill that I can walk up. The semi-trailer one goes quick, though, so maybe add its speed and power. It's lighter, sure, but....it's military - they should have all the good sh*t.

OP, I am a mechanic in the military. The trucks in the videos are very old models that are largely no longer in use. I've driven and worked on them quite often in my career.

They suck. They aren't maneverable, they are underpowered, slow, and can't climb nearly as good as you would think. The in game version is actually pretty accurate.

I have gotten a Barracks up Mt Chilliad. Took a lot of effort. The key to getting any low powered car up is feathering the throttle and keeping it in second gear, (would be easier if we could have a manual mode, second gear is where it is at for most off-roading).

My biggest beef with the Barracks is when you call it in and it spawns underneath the awning of what looks like maybe a hotel by eclipse towers and you have to ram it out with another vehicle because the truck doesn't clear the awning it spawns under and is unable to drive out from underneath it.

It is. The middle axle just has much less power than the front and rear.

Flip it over and hit the gas.

Disappointing. I'd always thought Military would have the good stuff.

You know I always wonder what manual would be like in these games.

And when you say you made it up Mt. Chilliad, you do mean the GPS path (the steep hill), not the back trail, right?

And aren't the six cylinder engines? My friend has a duck and it's got a GM 6cyl in it.

I wish the truck can go through water without stalling.

Legitimately don't remember, this would have to be an easy 6 months ago, if not more.

Ah alright. No the back trail is much less steep and just about anything should make it up that way. I had trouble with the Dump though as it was to wide for narrow areas. The GPS marked way (front way) is a lot steeper and causes issues with weaker trucks.

Is that the one that starts by the logging yard?

Yea I believe the GPS route goes by the logging area and into the steep hills. The unmarked way should be just off the highway around the Grapeseed area.

Then that would have to be the way I went, as I only have ever started there

I like how the Barracks looks like, I mean it's a military vehicle and the camo pattern is awesome but a little bit more of power and armor is welcome. It doesn't even have Bulletproof tires, but whatever.

The old duece and a half eh?

This thing should be able to power up most inclines. I wish they allowed shifting into 4low.

I agree with the OP.
