GTAV will be a "CPU" heavy game? [DISCUSSION]

Well I want to see this thread again as we know more details about the game.

Will it be a very CPU intensive game or does any quad core max it out with smooth 60FPS?

Thank you

Sure... I'll update the OP.

I think it will be a CPU intensive game for sure.. keeping in mind that the minimum requirement is a Quad-Core CPU...

But i think, most of the quad core CPUs would be able to max it out...

Looking forward to it coming out on PC, but i'm not looking forward to my PC lagging on high settings.. I remember how my old gaming PC struggled with IV back in the day. Shadows are normally the most painful thing in sandbox games.

I honestly hope it's a bit more balanced in CPU/GPU utilization than IV.. and I hope we don't have to do commandline options just to play the game properly!

I think it should be a balanced....

considering that R* is taking its time..and trying to make this game as polished as they can. *hopefully*

Hope that it includes dual core hyperthreaded CPU's as well

R* never mentioned that.

And ofcourse true quad-core is always better than dual-core (HT)

Personally i don't think it would be supported.

Hope FX 6300 is good enough combined with R9 270X(recommended gpu) for ultra/high settings!

You got the same rig as me!

Please use the pinned Can I Run It? topic in the future, if you want know about your rig . This topic is only for the discussion on CPUs affecting GTAV...

Now to your question..

Yes... its good.

Same as me.

Forget about it! The recommened CPU is a FX8350 and recommened doesn't mean Ultra.

If you overclock it and have a decent mobo and CPU cooler (Hyper 212 Evo or equivelent), you should be able to see some settings on High, but if you want a smooth 60fps you may need to drop down to Medium. I'll probably have a hard time running it on High with my rig, never mind Ultra.

Please no more Max Payne 3 comparisons. Completely differently designed games. Corridor shooters are ALWAYS easy on CPUs while open world games annihilate them.

If MP3 shouldn't be compared then the only game left to be compared to GTA 5 is Watch_Dogs. If that's the case, expect some requirements as hefty as WD. If GTA 5 is compared to GTA 4, expect a ludicrous requirement since 2008 and 2014 has a huge gap in technology. Sarcasm aside, We should compare GTA 5 to LA Noire. Makes perfect sense because both these games are set on LA and the requirements should be similar if not, a little higher.

Thats a terrible comparison. For one thing, the cities are NOTHING alike. Also, LA noir uses the havok engine, and GTA V uses the rage engine

yep , spec wise for 60fps (that will require more load for cpu too) i would say that will be something more like W_D i think

Hell yes. I bought a beefy air cooler specifically for this game.

My 3570k @ 4.5 - 4.6 ghz bottlenecks my oc'd gtx 780 in bf4 and IV (only games I play). I run IV at max everything 1080p 60hz (including draw and detail distance).

Most people wouldn't be comfortable with the temps I run my cpu at (stock cooler @ ~100 c for over the past year), but I expect to run it at the same temps but a higher frequency once I install my cooler.

Are you sure that is safe for the CPU's lifespan? Or do you plan to replace it in the near future anyway?

Also, the effectiveness of the cooler depends on how well your case can remove the heat generated so make sure your case air flow is good otherwise there is no point of the new cooler.

I don't believe that the CPU is bottle necking the 780 at all.

More than likely your CPU is throttling due to the high temps.

It isn't. Not going to bother making the effort to show you. Take my word for it :^:

Also, I don't really care about the CPU lifespan. I bought it for $150 used over a year ago. Rode it hard since then with zero issues. I also disabled LLC and speedstep  . If it fails, it fails. I'll keep you posted ;). What's the point of keeping components safe for the next decade when they'll be worthless far sooner? Also, I have kept the side of my case off.

Well i have in the past ran dual 780ti's (1.25ghz) with my 3770k @ 4.5ghz and if i hit a wall it was always GPU bound.

Havok is only a physics engine, not a game engine. The game engine of L.A. Noire isn't Havoc, but an unknown one. V uses Euphoria and L.A. Noire uses Havok. That would be the right sentence.

I would say it's going to be Ram that's going to be the bottleneck more than anything, considering the amount of issues IV suffered from not utilising it properly.

what do you guys think about the AMD Phenom II quad core? 3.2GHz... Along with an Nvidia 750ti 2GBvram DDR5

I think 8GB should be enough... IV was a different story then...

You did not mention the exact model..for the CPU.

Also the RAM.

I checked using CYRI,GD and other various threads and they all say it will work without a hitch.

I ran FC4 and WD without any probs and their requirements were much higher than this.
