Also if it comes to actual racism in game, the only people I have heard being racist are young african-american boys calling me a white cracker and a white ni**er.

Well it'd be weird if a white guy was calling you a "white cracker" or "white ni**er" don't you think?

Different ethnic groups tend to have different accounts.

 

Throughout my entire online gaming history observing over the mic racism, it's 8/10 a white guy who is the "sh*t talkin racists" (as sultangris put earlier).

 

But I'm too smart to think that defines all white people or even most. Even if I'm wrong.

For the matter, my friend has both a black and a white character. He hasn't seen any particular difference in other people's behavior towards him. I also have a female and a male character, and the behavior of other players towards each of them is almost the exact same. This is a videogame, man. People don't come here to hate on minorities and spread prejudice, they come here to have fun.

Every online game suffers from racism.

 

Maladjusted wieners who, in real life, cross the street or look away whenever they see a black person, need to vent somewhere where they won't be called out for being scum.

 

Also, Kids. Kids don't know any better. They come from the suburbs where a non-white person is a novelty, not a standard.

I've been in games where a majority of the people in the game may have been African American(i don't know for a fact obviously).

 

They would not stop making fun of me and some others because they believed we were white, which we were.

 

When you talk in game chat, you never know what you'll encounter. The last time I entered a crazy lobby these black people were being racists to each other! Almost makes me wonder if race is the actual dilemma? Black on black?? >_>

My comment not to validate or discredit you but more to say that yes racism is a fact of life you will find everyplace. So many people pretend racism doesnt exist period and thats not a realistic view of society at all lol I simply say that you will find racists in society and you will find racists online as a product of that society. With that in mind i dont think there much to do about it. As long as racism in society it will be more prevalent in anonymous, satirical realms of virtual reality where personal responsibility none existent lol

Yeah, that's why I said almost the same, I get the occasional friend request followed by a text asking "r u a girl pls respond". One particular time, I also got surrounded on an apartment party by two 12-year olds using the "Jerk off" animation (Oh, the patriarchy! They start their rapist training at such a young age!), but that was early in the beginning of Online, other than that, I never really felt like people were trying to harass or be discriminatory.

 

In the end, it doesn't matter what gender, ethnicity, religion, political view, etc, you have: Everyone is a dick to everyone either way

All of a sudden, people were going out of their way to make sure I couldn't have a good time. From sending crews to gang up on me, to repeatedly sticky bombing me, even simple rude things like driving by and giving me the finger. One white character even set me on fire while I was afk with the gas can, and then using that same gas can lit my CORPSE on fire. I couldn't deliver any of Simeon's vehicles without somebody killing me before I could reach his garage. Right before I had had enough and was about to log out and use my white character, I get a text message from someone threatening to tie me to the back of his Sandking and drag me around the city. I almost threw up.

 

So, my question is, does racism really exist in GTAO, and what sort of things can we do to make sure these sorts of things don't happen?

 

You're a low level rank, playing an online part of the game that's been out for just shy of a year.

 

You're gonna get sh-tted on.

 

Hate to say it, but people playing Online aren't nice most of the time. Especially to lower ranks.

Okay, so before I make this topic, I feel like a few things need to be said because of the seemingly controversial nature of the subject. First off, I in no way encourage or condone racism both on or offline, in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I am staunchly against racism in all of its forms when and wherever it comes up. Second, these are merely observations that I have come across in my short time playing as an African-American character, and do not necessarily represent everyone's experiences equally. And third, I think it's important to address racial issues rather than acting like they don't exist, because the only way we can overcome our differences is with compassion, sensitivity, and kindness. Having said all of this, I'm hoping that people are receptive to what I'm about to say and don't simply shrug it off as business as usual. These are real problems, with a real impact, that I feel we as a community need to address. Here's the issue:

 

I just created a new character to start earning all of the vehicles, weapons, etc. back again from the ground up, and accidentally ended up creating a black character. I dressed him up nicely, with a sharp black/white suit and a nice parted haircut. But when it came time for me to mess around in free roam, I noticed something was very different.

Most racism I hear is from Americans. Then they drop the F bomb (sounds like maggot), and always mention Obama and Obamacare for some reason. Even kids are at it. They need to be smacked hard. They say things like 'Eff off Mexican this is 'murican space' and other sh*t over the mic, mostly in lobbies, or talk crap 'cause your character isn't pale.
